^^ Sweden is much less locked down/restricted than other countries. Whether this is the right approach remains to be seen.

But Björn apparently is in a lockdown, probably out of his own choice, because of Lena's illness. He mentioned Benny is too. And he said that the people over 70 are recommended to stay at home in Sweden and I guess Swedes are well-disciplined and take it seriously, not like people here...

Hi Onlyabba4me - I, too, am very pleased to see you posting again. Take care.
Regarding the new songs, if I was one of ABBA, I would want to release at least one of the songs with a video this year. They were making at least one video I believe weren't they? With quite a few lockdown restrictions still in place, the audience would be huge! Overall, I would much rather see a DVD documentary type format, maybe with new interviews and old interview footage etc, with the new and old songs being mimed by the avatars than an avatar tour anyway, I just can't see myself getting excited about, or emotionally connected to, computer generated images!

Alib - Thank you for your greeting. Yes, ABBA could Promote the New Songs by making a Doucumentary, with ABBAtar Promo Videos of each New Song. They could also give each of their personal Views about the New Songs. They could add in Clips, of their Old Hits too - or the entire Documentary could just be about their New Songs and any future Plans.
Alib - There was not going to be an ABBAtars 'Tour'. Bjorn revealed that, in at least one Interview. ABBA were going to choose a 1 City, where The ABBAtars 'Show' would be. Bjorn said that it would be a 1 Venue 'Show'. If ABBA Fans wanted to see The ABBAtars 'Show', then they would have to travel to that 1 Venue, to see them. That would be expensive, as Fans would have Travel expenses, Hotel Fees, and the Ticket Price, to get into the Venue. Bjorn never revealed which City, (or Country), The ABBAtars 'Show' would be in...

Rumours are getting stronger that ABBA will take part in some form in tonight's broadcast of Europe Shine A Light. Who knows, maybe we will finally see the release of I Still Have Faith In You, earlier than expected.

It is reported in several Dutch media. In the second link the reporter says at the end that he has heard through the grapevine that it is almost certain that ABBA is going to do something and that they are trying to find out exactly what. www.hitzound.com/treedt-abba-op-16-mei-aan-in-eurovison-europe-shine-a-light/Today there are strong rumors that ABBA will also be featured in the show. The group, a comeback of which was announced less than two years ago, won the Song Festival in Brighton in 1974. The comeback would be accompanied by the release of two new singles: "I Still Have Faith In You" and "Don`t Shut Me Down". Is it possible that ABBA will use the stage of the big Eurovision show (May 16) to play these songs? The winning 'Waterloo' from 1974 still counts as the most popular song of the Eurovision Song Contest and also leads the Eurovision Top 100 All Time edition of 2020.www.rtlboulevard.nl/video/tv-fragmenten/video/5123941/abba-maakt-opwachting-tijdens-europe-shine-lightwnl.tv/2020/05/16/abba-treedt-op-songfestival/Yesterday it was announced in RTL Boulevard that there might also be a role for the Swedish pop group ABBA tonight.
ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 with the song Waterloo and is one of the most successful pop groups in the world with over 200 million albums sold.
In Good Morning Netherlands at NPO 1, main producer Eurovision Song Contest 2020 Sietse Bakker was asked if the rumors are correct. Bakker remained secretive and said: "I know the answer to that, but I'm not going to give it."
Later in the broadcast Bakker gave away a bit more information: “The Eurovision Song Contest would not be the Eurovision Song Contest without a touch of ABBA, so we made sure of that. In what shape? You really have to watch tonight for that.”

I do hope that today's ABBA 'Rumours' come to something. There is something of a New ABBA Revival going on, at the moment. I've sensed it for the past 3 Weeks, or so. Renewed Global interest in ABBA. 'Waterloo' has been added to the 19 Eurovision Songs, that 'The Public' can Vote on tonight. I've done a Thread about it here - plus a BBC Link: abbachat.com/thread/1279/eurovision-come-voting-list

Well we can all hope... rumours can start for a reason.... As for my prediction... I don’t think Waterloo will win.. top 5 if a countdown, if ABBA do make an appearance, before end of voting, then Waterloo will win otherwise.. I think..Loreen.. not that I’m to keen on it.

If I'm seeing things correctly, it looks like the big deal is a video message from Bjorn in the middle of the Shine A Light show... Given the placing of Waterloo in the Come Together show's running order, part of me wondered whether it might be a performance by the ABBAtars. It would certainly be a great way of introducing that project to the world and gauging reaction.

Well, the presenter has just said “ABBA fans should definitely keep watching” so it sounds hopeful. And Waterloo did win Come Together (even I doubted they would, as modern era lighting, effects etc were too good for the primitive 1974 contest footage).

Don't know if somebody of you is watching it but the moderators just said: "ABBA fan should definitely keep watching". Hmmm… would they make such a fuss of just a video message from Björn?

Nice clip from Björn. How touching that his 7 year old grandson came home from school and said 'Grandad, the kids at school say you were a pop star's. Made me laugh!

Nice clip from Björn. How touching that his 7 year old grandson came home from school and said 'Grandad, the kids at school say you were a pop star's. Made me laugh! But not that interesting in the grand scheme of things. Björn is the regular spokesperson for the group anyway, and can pretty much be relied upon to turn up for anything he’s asked. This was incredibly disappointing. Rumours are often just that, but the presenters hyped it up as being more than it actually turned out to be.

Yes, it was an incredible disappointment. Bjorn does most of ABBA's Interviews anyhow, so it was nothing 'special' or 'exciting', that he gave a Video Message to the 'Love Shine A Light' Show. Yes, it was a nice, supportive, (of Eurovision), Message, but he could have 'Phoned it in, or sent it in on a Post Card, to be read out!
Some of the people, behind 'Love Shine A Light', really did encourage us to watch it - by hinting that ABBA Fans, were to get a big, special treat! We ended up with a brief 'Message', from Bjorn!
I'm actually laughing about it. I should have known better, as we ABBA Fans are let down over & over again. All of us should have learned the 'Lesson', Years ago. That is - 'Don't expect anything exciting from ABBA. Then you can't get upset, when you are forever disappointed'...
This morning, I rang a Friend, whom I lost touch with. It was our 1st Chat, in about 5 Years. He is a huge ABBA Fan. He was not going to watch any of the BBC's Eurovision 'Shows', tonight. I urged him to watch 'Love Shine A Light'. I said that there were rumours of something 'Special', from ABBA. that it could be at least 1 of the New Songs. He became very interested, and said he'd watch it. In the end, I just led him to see a 'Message' from Bjorn! it is rather funny, to be honest. That I got excited over it - and got my Friend excited! It is sickeningly disappointing, but it is also rather amusing. That so many of us are gullible, about such things - only to be let down time & time again...

I understand your disappointment, but I don't agree with your assessment that Björn could have just 'phoned it in, or sent it in on a postcard...'. Why should he be denied making a videoclip, just because does not want to, or can't, make a statement on the new songs? It reads as though you are saying he should consider limiting or withdrawing his contribution if he is not prepared to talk about anything new, or discuss the recent recordings. I enjoyed the link-up and listening what he had to say, and this was a 'Eurovision' celebration after all, not a programme about ABBA specifically. The unreleased songs will come to us at some point - who knows when, but we just have to be patient...

The presenter even said “they don’t really appear much in front of the camera these days” which suggested we might be seeing all four, but all we get is Björn (who it seems is never away from the camera or microphone!).
I can’t help but think this was an opportunity missed. A global TV audience, many of whom are in lockdown and paying more attention to things like this than they ever would do normally, could have been taken full advantage of.
Unless it’s just the UK where Björn seems to be rarely off our screens and airwaves? No disrespect to him but surely he could have made it slightly more interesting than that?

Well, I don't feel being let down by ABBA or Björn actually, let's not put blame on him. His message was nice, even if nothing more than that but there was never a slightest hint from any of the ABBA members we should expect more. But the presenter's comment at the beginning of the programme was a bit too much of a teasing, especially after all those rumours circulating. I wouldn't have watched it in its entirety if it wasn't for that line "ABBA fans should definitely keep watching". Even when they revealed they would screen the video message from Björn, I was expecting at least we would see such message from all four. But that was the purpose of it, wasn't it? To build upon the high expectations of ABBA fans and attract more viewers. They succeeded apparently, fooled us again.

Hi guys I'm new to this site, thanks to Colin, but certainly not new to ABBA! Some fans are saying the new song melody is behind the video Bjorn appeared in last night. I'm partially deaf at the moment (great for an opera conductor I know!) So cant hear any music. Any noticed this? Cheers Justin

I would also guess that Björn is the most comfortable with talking into a 'device' under a lockdown situation. I fondly imagine Benny to be playing his piano at home, daily, seeing if any new ideas come up, and relatively unfazed. Frida will be enjoying walks with Henry - and Agnetha will be baking cakes for her grandchildren and exploring the forest nearby with her dogs :-) :-) :-) (just my speculation, of course, LOL)

I am doing a guess: it is 1 of the bold instrumental mixes of "I still have faith in you". I would not be surprised. Composing-wise it could have been Benny......

Yes, I too wondered which Song, the background Instrumental Music, was from, as Bjorn spoke. I wondered if it was from one of the New ABBA Songs. I did not recognise it from any Song that I know - by ABBA or any other Artists.
I guess, that we did not get to hear a New ABBA Song, (last Night), for 1 simple reason. There has yet to be a Video made, to Promote it. ABBA would not have wanted, to perform the Song, as the 'Real' ABBA. They would have used The ABBAtars, in a Promo Video. We never got to hear a New Song, because no Promo Video is finished...

Is there a way to isolate or boost the backing track to make it easier to hear?

Try to remember, especially in the last Mamma Mia movie, Mamma Mia 2, all the music in between the real songs in the movie, I mean: all the music you could hear during the scenes with conversations, were songs from ABBA, recorded once again bij Benny, and if you listened carefully, you could discover many ABBA songs, but then recorded in a "classical music" kind of way. That's why I think ABBA joked with us, and already gave us yesterday evening a glimpse of "I still have faith in you". Not "Don't shut me down" because that one should be more up tempo. And the yesterday evening one could have been the ballad one, or: it was a piece of one of the extra songs they might have recorded. I say this because I follow Benny as a composer also after ABBA stopped. And I recognize Benny's composing. It sounds in the way it is recorded as all that "in between music" of Mamma Mia. I might be wrong, but it could have been a Benny composition.

I liked the music 'behind' Björn last night, and to me, it sounded like Benny was playing the piano.
As for whether it could be part of the backing track for 'I Still Have Faith In You', no idea really. Benny went on record to say that 'ISHFIY' is a 'three-quarter time' song - does that backing track fit that?? I've no idea.
