I didn't for a minute suggest all complications should be an extension of gold. It was Graham Norton that posed the question that the 2 new songs would be added to a new compilation called ABBA platinum. I'm well aware of many other complications since like love stories, number 1s etc.
Personally I always preferred polydor's original idea to follow up gold with "the other side of ABBA ", which might well have included the tracks you mention.

If they are going to link the new songs with ABBA’s back catalogue, and there aren’t enough for a full album, it would seem sensible to include songs not included on the (still standard) 2001 editions of the studio albums, namely:
Dream World Put On Your White Sombrero From A Twinkling Star to a Passing Angel ABBA Undeleted, but split into individual tracks and removing the embarrassing studio chat and clatter
You Owe Me One and Åh Vilka Tider would also fit this criteria, but as Björn and Benny have at various points shown disdain for these two, they perhaps would be left off.
The deluxe editions / boxed sets that these appear on are now all long-deleted, so these tracks are largely unavailable physically.

Certainly a good way to introduce the almost unknown tracks to a wider audience but I very much doubt they would want to combine the new songs with this substandard, second-rate material and unfinished demos. The new songs should be first class if they want to live up to expectations and thus it would make more sense to release them together with the best tracks of their back catalogue, if there's not enough new material for a comlete album or EP...

^^ Possibly. However, I don’t like the idea of including album tracks (regardless of their links to Mamma Mia!) either. Mamma Mia! is pretty much a separate franchise these days. The Mamma Mia! audience isn’t interested in hearing the ABBA versions, they’ll just get the soundtrack albums. And it’s better for ABBA’s (somewhat damaged) credibility to disassociate themselves from that musical.
I just like the idea of tracks not available anywhere else getting an airing, but I agree some of them are sub-standard. There is no ideal solution really, other than a complete new album. New ABBA songs recorded more than 35 years after after the last ones should remain separate.

...New ABBA songs recorded more than 35 years after after the last ones should remain separate... I feel exactly the same way. Maybe I haven't yet fully taken in the fact that ABBA is recording again. It feels completely unreal and I'm not able to relate this "new" ABBA to the "old" ABBA I've been listening to for years. Not yet at least. But it may happen that the new songs will sound so familiar, so ABBA, that it will be absolutely natural to put them side by side with Dancing Queen and Knowing Me, Knowing You on one record...

Interesting. It also says the songs were written by Benny ie not Bjorn as well. Is this something we already knew? I thought pretty much all abba songs were written by both with only the odd exception?

Relax... this will have been written by an over-excited fan who thinks that by putting rubbish on there, it will somehow come true.
The reference for it is an “insider” who reported it to the Daily Express in the UK.
So it must be true....

I’ve known for a while but I hate how the likes of Wikipedia can be written and not ratified it’s so misleading, and hard to know what is true.. if anything these days......especially anything ABBA related.....
As always Ive been optimistic in the release of something new before we all die ! 😂

As always Ive been optimistic in the release of something new before we all die ! 😂 To be honest very little is actually known about the new releases. ABBA have been mostly silent, except for Bjorn who has given many contradictory interviews since 2018. If I was a betting man, I'd be inclined to trust more of what Benny says. Unfortunately that's been very little, aside from a tiny clip at the beginning of this year.

God, I dislike the American pronunciation of ABBA - "Ahbah". Actually, some people here in the USA pronounce it the same way Australians do, and some pronounce the first "A" to sound like the "a" in "father", which, as far as I know, is how the group pronounces it. And we don't refer to Mamma Mia as "Momma Mia".

A very happy 2nd birthday, ABBAChat. Time does fly. One day ABBA's new songs will be released for the world to hear. Edmund, gazman was referring to the anniversary of the day this thread was started, not ABBAChat's anniversary. This September, ABBAChat will have been online for 6 years.

An odd business - quoting someone's post and then adding a few lines that didn't originally feature, making it look as though the poster of the original reply had written them. Accidental, though, surely; the additional lines were almost certainly meant to be a response to onlyabba4me's reply, but due to a formatting error became part of the quote. I have edited that post and deleted the last paragraph. I also deleted some subsequent posts.

In the Daily Mail, today, ( UK News paper, one of the better ones depending on your point of view 🙄) There is an article by Judy Craymer, creator of Mamma Mia... In it she says that the film franchise is meant to be a trilogy! And she would like to incorporate the 4 new songs created by the boys... so another twist....

I'm pretty sure radio 2 did a programme on ABBA with Nikki Chapman last year and she said Judy Cramer had told her there were more than 2 new songs...

Yes -- Judy Craymer has told the 'Daily Mail', that the 'Mamma Mia!' Films are meant to be a Trilogy. She hopes to use ABBA's '4 New Songs' in the 3rd Film. (If one is ever made!). LINK: linkOne Day someone will make a fantastic Disney Cartoon Film, with the vocals and recordings of the 'Real' ABBA. Until then, Benny & Bjorn seem to think that the silly 'Mamma Mia!' Films are the best 'vehicle' for ABBA Songs - even though the Plots are weak and most of the Actors and Actresses cannot Sing... To my mind, Judy has an imagination that goes no higher than 5 or 6. She is given a reputation, befitting of a person, with a 10 out of 10 imagination...

Yes, of course she does - after all, the 'Mamma Mia!' franchise is her meal ticket, and the best way for her to make her ££££££££. After all, her association with the Spice Girls' catalogue didn't go to well, did it?

Am I the only one excited she has confirmed there are 4 NEW ABBA songs? Only if you believe she’s in a position to confirm such things. Until Björn and/or Benny confirm it, I’d still advise caution. No one other than them should even be allowed to confirm it. Just remember 1982... two songs were confirmed as having been recorded for ABBA’s new album. One of these didn’t see the light of day for 11 years and the other is still unreleased in full. The “album” was cancelled.

Well Bjorn almost confirmed as much in the recent French interview and their swedish presenter friend said he had heard "3 of the new ABBA songs " clearly suggesting there are more than 3...

That doesn’t mean they will all get released. Remember, they “haven’t decided” yet...
Personally, I’d rather expect the minimum rather than hope too much for the maximum. Can’t be disappointed that way.
It should be left to ABBA themselves to confirm (for absolute definite) anything more than they already have. So far, that is just the two songs. They’d be crucified if those two didn’t happen, but anything more than that can very easily not be released. Nothing more was promised.

Judy has probably just picked up Björn's reference to a possible 4th song for release, and repeated it. I very much doubt that she is in the 'inner circle' of people who have heard the songs - apart from anything else, she has probably been in lockdown in the UK while B&B have been in Sweden.

My point is that The Daily Fail is a filthy tory rag and full of lies.
Anyway...I can't believe a third Mamma Mia! film might be in the offing. As if the first two weren't bad enough. It's a real blight on ABBA's reputation. It truly tarnishes it.
