Yes, I've probably said this before but an album is an album - I think someone needs to stream the entire album for their stream to contribute to the chart.
The whole UK chart compilation business seems distorted to me. This is highlighted this week in the Singles chart where Kate Bush is No 2 with "Running Up That Hill" yet she is No 1 in the Downloads chart and No 1 in the Streaming chart. Apparently, the reason is that they halve her number of streams for the main chart because her song is more than 3 years old.

Oddly enough, Voulez Vous has suddenly appeared in the mid-week UK album chart! Number 37. Guessing it must have been heavily discounted somewhere. And to make this post relevant to the thread, no news on Voyage but expect it may well have slipped back out of the top 100 but I think the shows could keep it there or thereabouts.

Bennybjorn -- ABBA actually have 8 Albums in the UK's Monday Mid Week Top 100 Chart! 'Gold' is at No.11 in the UK's Monday Mid Week's. The Studio Albums Box Set has yet to reach the UK Top 100. But - surprisingly - the individual ABBA Albums are each in the Mid Week Top 100! It does not mean that they will still be in the Top 100 in Friday's Weekly Chart. We will see. 'Voulez-Vous' is in at No.37, 'Arrival' in at No.58, 'Super Trouper' in at No.59, 'The Visitors' in at No.71, 'Voyage' down from No.68 to No.72, 'Waterloo' in at No.93, and 'Ring Ring' in at No.97. So ABBA have 8 Albums in the Top 100, with only 'ABBA' and 'The Album' missing. NOTE -- I'm now told that those ABBA Albums have re-entered the UK Top 100, due to their Picture Disks becoming available. That 'ABBA' and 'The Album' have failed to re-enter because their Picture Disks have been delayed. Link -- Below -- Today's UK Monday Mid Week Top 100 Albums...link

The record company (presumably the mighty Warner Music, owner of Parlophone) complained and so the rule has been abolished for Kate at least. Running Up That Hill will no longer have its streaming figures halved.

If and a big If, Ring Ring is still in the top 100 come Friday, it will actually be its first week ( probably last.) in the UK album charts....... Probably only 3 will last the week, Gold (of course) Voulez Vous and Voyage, any more will be a bonus, depends if their sales are forward loaded and diminish as the week goes by...

Is this down to the picture discs? I got my dispatch email on Thursday. I wonder if more have yet to be issued. A brief appearance by Ring Ring in the chart would be a nice way to tie up a loose end.

Yes, down mainly to the picture discs. But an element of streaming too. Voulez Vous has a lot of hits on it and probably explains why it leads the pack on the older albums.
Foreverfan, it would be nice if Ring Ring could stay in the chart and have its first and only week in the chart. Production delays for ABBA and The Album.

I was thinking when the set list will change for the Voyage show? I went on the 26th opening night. They played 19 songs B/B have said up 25 songs have been used for the show. I think there will be no changes until Christmas or maybe 26th June 2023. I am going to see the show again on August 26th but I think that will be to early. But we will see. Has any one got any ideas on this?

Off topic again.. well probably..
Voulez Vous “ success “ along with being heavy in Voyage, picture disc, there’s Tik Tok and Angeleyes, apparently being played a lot, have all accumulated in it being so high , it’s jumped over 100 places this week to be at its mid week’s position...
Which version is VV , deluxe ?

I like that Voulez-Vous is getting some love. It has been sniffed at a bit over the years but it's always been one of my firm favourites. Probably my most played, in fact.

Interesting to see that Voyage has only slipped a little. Backs up my theory that exposure of the two Voyage songs in the live show could keep the album just about in the top 100 going forward. Anyone know how Gold was doing before the shows started? Was it in the 20s and now in/around the top 10?

Last September, after the announcement of the first Voyage songs
Voulez Vous re-entered chart at #58 (the OCC doesn't have this on their chart listing for VV). Arrival re-entered at #100.
In the Sales Chart, The Visitors re-entered at #95. The Albums and More Gold also re-entered. Gold climbed to #5.

I was very sniffy about VV for a very long time. I was so disappointed in it, especially coming after The Album, which was and still is my favourite ABBA album. I hated KOF and TKHLHC. Now I love KOS, and even quite like TKHLHC. The Voulez Vous album is probably my third favourite now, esoecially with SNC and GGG added, with The Visitors at #2. I play it more now than I did back in the day.

Does anyone know how many albums ABBA would need in this weeks official Top 100 chart results to be a record? Even maybe 3 or 4 would do it??! Quite an achievement!
I've always liked the VV album, has three of my favourite songs, Kisses of Fire, Chiquitita and As Good As New! Quite a few fans seem to like Angeleyes, but it's one of my least favourites on VV, although the chorus saves it somewhat! - sorry!

Kate Bush had 11 albums in the chart in 2014 at the time of her Before The Dawn shows. In one week, all 11 were placed between numbers 6 and 49. I think David Bowie has done similar, certainly after his death but also at other points in his career. ABBA won’t be breaking any records.

Could be a personal best for ABBA. previously 3 albums in the chart at the same time in 1978 with Greatest Hits, Arrival and The Album and last year with Gold, Voulez Vous and Arrival. I am sure Onlyabba4maagain will comment if there have been other times. September 1978 - the last time Greatest Hits, Arrival and The Album in chart at same time www.officialcharts.com/charts/albums-chart/19780924/7502/September 2021 www.officialcharts.com/charts/albums-chart/20210910/7502/ABBA could have 10 albums in the Sales Chart - the 9 studio albums and Gold. Btw, not only is the Studio Albums box set not in the main chart but not in the Top 100 of either the Sales or Physical charts - so sales are tiny.

The maximum they could hope for would be 8 as 2 of the picture discs have been delayed. Realistically most will have dropped out by Friday.

Thank you for your responses on the chart records. Kate Bush looks like she will be number 1 in the singles chart this week. Can't be impossible for ABBA to get there one day surely in some way or another!!? would be great to get that 10th no.1 !

The Voyage campaign showed that the large majority of UK radio stations were simply not willing to play new Abba songs, regardless of their quality. I think Catherine Bush's song features in a Netflix series (or similar). Abba would need to do likewise, or have a song in a successful and popular film.

Has anybody got the picture disc albums yet?
If so, can they upload images of what the artwork is like on the reverse side of the picture disc.
Thanks :-)

Yes, ABBA The Album and ABBA both have the release date 1st July in the official store. Yet I received the full bundle today. daronjulian, the reverse side of the picture discs feature the same pictures as the reverse side of the respective album sleeves but no text except for the name of the group and the album. The Voyage picture disc is the already released one. All of them look very nice, my favourites are Super Trouper and The Visitors.

Can’t rule anything out after this but I think it would be much harder for ABBA because of Gold. That album, and the songs on it, are so well known by everyone that I think it would be hard for any of them to be a big hit single again. Kate Bush has had a greatest hits with Running Up That Hill on but it’s had no where near the success of Gold, and Kate has had a much lower profile (no jukebox musical there, thankfully). RUTH has always been considered a classic but it’s not had anything like the exposure that the ABBA Gold songs have had. However, I’d still say that ABBA have trumped Kate, in that they had a top 10 hit with a new song. What’s happening with RUTH is phenomenal but it’s still a 37-year-old song. ABBA having a new top 10 hit in this day and age is equivalent to a number one in their heyday (to me anyway).

I guess it doesn't need to be a single to be used in a TV show or movie and then shoot to the top of the charts. It could be an album track, such as "If It Wasn't For The Nights" or "The Visitors", or even a B-side, or a solo song such as "I Know There's Something Going On".

No, I can't say I do, but when I first heard IKTSGO I thought Phil Collins had based the drum intro on a sped-up version of the intro to "Intruder" by Peter Gabriel (opener of the PG3 album).

I like the " Voyage " concert set list. I think it is quite impressive with the exception of " Does Your Mother Know " which I would replace with either " If It Wasn't For The Nights " or " Angeleyes ". Also, " Waterloo " and " Mamma Mia " could be substituted with " Take A Chance On Me " and " Super Trouper " on alternate concert evenings. I haven't seen the show yet but as " The ABBAtars are not performing " Eagle " ( shame ! ) then this song could be alternated with another track. I would have preferred the ABBA holograms to have performed the majestic " Eagle " but you can't have everything. Finally, I would change the encore to " Thank You For The Music ", " The Winner Takes It All " and lastly " Dancing Queen " in that order. Shall I submit my amendment of the concert set list to Bjorn and Benny ? " Dare Me " as The Pointer Sisters would say !

Wow, you can't do that Eddie - you can't get rid of "Waterloo" and "Mamma Mia" from any of the concerts They are cornerstones of ABBA's career. I like your ending though.

It’s a very good album. It’s not as good as Arrival or The Album, which are practically perfect in every way, but it’s quite amazing considering that Benny and Bjorn had writer’s block when they started it. Half the album (As Good As New, Angeleyes, If It Wasn’t For The Nights, Chiquitita and Kisses Of Fire) is excellent, but the other five songs are less great. It sounds more modern than the previous albums, which partly explains its current popularity.

Eddie, contact Benny and Bjorn and suggest Waterloo and Mamma Mia be replaced with King Kong Song and Just Like That.
They will love that suggestion 😀
I dare you!
