Loreen's Tatoo is the first Eurovision song to stay in UK Top 5 for two consecutive weeks since Gina G did so way back in 1996. This beats her own Euphoria in 2012 and the Uk's last winner by Katerina and the Waves in 1997.

There's several "heritage" acts that I used to like and bought studio albums in the past who still release new stuff eg Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, Madonna.
But I am not the slighest bit interested in the new songs. I associate those acts with the 1980s and early 90s for Depeche Mode.
Pretty sure many ABBA fans of the past feel that about the Voyage album. They know it exists but can't be bothered to check it out even on Spotify (and the like), let alone buy the album.

But I am not the slighest bit interested in the new songs. The Tears For Fears album is really good, definitely up there with their best stuff. Perhaps helps that they aren’t prolific. It was their first album since 2004. Madonna has done nothing good for 15 years. As we’d got all her previous albums, I did get the more recent ones (though the last one only because HMV were flogging it cheap in-store). I don’t think I’d bother with the next one. Same with Kylie. I lost interest in her music decades ago but carried on getting it out of habit. I’m now ready to break such habits. Not sure if I’d even add Kate Bush to those. Last album 12 years ago but I very rarely listen to it. There is something to be said for stopping when you’re on top. Maybe ABBA have spoilt that by doing Voyage, I don’t know. Pet Shop Boys are still worth a listen though.

Thinking of acts who finished at the top of their game I can only think of
The Beatles (1970) Last recorded album was Abbey Road released Autumn 1969. Highly acclaimed and successful. Their biggest in the US. Let it Be was released in Spring 1970 but recorded mainly before. Think of it as 'new' tracks in an expanded deluxe edition these days. And no I don't count the 2 "new" Beatles songs of the mid 90s as breaking that ending
Simon and Garfunkle (1970) kept their biggest selling album and single, Bridge Over Troubled Water til last.
The Police (1983) They got huge sucess in their final year with their last LP and International #1 single Every Breathe You Take. Personally I thought they were at their best 1978-81
The Jam (1982) Success mainly in the UK. I prefered them 1978-80 but in 1982 they had 2 #1 singles and finally got a #1 album. They never renuited as Paul Weller hated his bandmates.

I listened to Voyage all the way through just before the weekend and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Even Little Things. I played it again later, on shuffle, and it put ISHFIY, OTF, LT and BB together and it was surprisingly lovely to have those less-obviously-ABBA tunes together as a set. Very musical. I was expecting the album to have dimmed for me, but it still holds up well, I think. ISHFIY is back to being my favourite track.
I love Pet Shop Boys but I haven't felt much for any of their albums since Yes, which contains the gorgeous The Way It Used To Be.
I'm not more than a casual Kylie fan (although I married a die-hard). She has had some great tracks on each album but she often loses me. I thought Golden was a great set, though. It had more heart than Disco, and the song Radio On is just lovely. I found her Disco album a bit cynical. Didn't think much of Padam Padam on first hearing but mah gawd it must be made of superglue. I just can't get it out of my head (no pun intended). And she looks sensational in the video. The album is supposed to be pretty varied, so I hope there's more good stuff to come.
Madonna lost me around the time of Confessions On A Dancefloor. I reckon I'm that tiny minority that doesn't like Hung Up. Again, her albums have a few good tracks and then they trail off for me. The last album I bought was American Life, which was interesting at the time. Her best artwork since her first album.
Blondie is a heritage act that seems to have retained some consistency. I've always found their albums slightly less than the sum of their parts - even the legendary Parallel Lines (for me, Eat To The Beat is better). The Panic Of Girls and Pollinator are fairly decent albums - especially compared to, say, The Hunter.

Blondie's Parallel Lines is a true classic. Their albums since they reforme in the late 90s have been nothing special in the main with the exception of their last one Polinator.
The Buckingham Mcvie album should have been credited as a Fleetwood Mac album. It had 4 of the 5 classic line up. Like Blondie's last album released in 2017 it too was pretty good.
Madonna hasn't had a good album since Like a Prayer. Her compilation The Immaculate Collection marked her creative period. Ray of Light hasn't stood the test of time.

What do you think constitutes a heritage act ?
An act over 10 years together ?
As if that is the case, for example an act like Texas ( a favourite ) would be considered as one... is it just longevity or from a different era, or combination of both...

^And does quality or perceived quality come into it? Would Cliff Richard or Daniel o' Donnell be considered heritage acts? I would have thought a significant amount of material too and not just one hit wonders.
I tend to use the term 'veteran' and it's just acts that have been around a long time.

I've always found their albums slightly less than the sum of their parts - even the legendary Parallel Lines (for me, Eat To The Beat is better). The Panic Of Girls and Pollinator are fairly decent albums - especially compared to, say, The Hunter. I'm in total agreement with you Tony - 'Voyage' definitely still holds up for me but I haven't ceased playing it. I think I must have listened to it multiple times each day for the first 12 months and probably at least once every day since, which probably makes it my most played ABBA album. Fancy that. I truly love the mature sound and continue to hope for one last album, albeit in a more adventurous style but with their current abilities on full display. Love these people, love the album. I am also a long-term Pet Shop Boys fan and whilst I have collected all of their catalogue (even the fan club releases), I can't say I've loved any of their recent albums. They had a pretty consistent run up until 'Yes' and whilst I did admire portions of 'Electric' and 'Super', 'Hotspot' was a major disappointment. Maybe they should resume writing for and producing other artists? Liza's 'Results' is a killer album. Neil Tennant has said for the last 20 years that he wants to work with Stevie Nicks so perhaps he should pursue this? Stevie ain't busy - she's just cruising through lacklustre concert performances, steadily diminishing her legacy. Poor thing. I like Kylie, despite her first two albums being of no merit. She gradually improved over time but hit a roadblock after 'Fever'. Her albums have been wildly inconsistent ever since, but I still have a soft spot for the little lady. 'Golden' was her best outing in ages and "Dancing" was undeniably catchy. "Padam Padam" has splendid moments but I can't get past the damn title - it reeks of laziness and slight desperation, but she's still as sweet as apple pie. I actually liked Madonna's 'Confessions On A Dancefloor' but agree that "Hung Up" is overrated. Strip away the ABBA sample and little remains. Whilst bloated, much of 'Rebel Heart' was worthwhile but she's kind of disappeared up her own arsehole, although admittedly, that began a couple of decades ago. Agree that 'American Life' is fantastic and majorly underrated. As a longtime Blondie fan, I will defend them steadfastly till the end, especially Miss Debbie - probably the greatest pop star ever. Whilst I adore the first stage of their career, I actually believe they improved during the second phase (1999 to present), citing 'Panic of Girls' (especially all the related bonus tracks/outtakes) and 'Pollinator' as two of their very best albums. Very much looking forward to their new album.

I was surprised that Blondie's "What I Heard" wasn't a chart smash at the time. The streaming nonsense notwithstanding.

I was surprised that Blondie's "What I Heard" wasn't a chart smash at the time. The streaming nonsense notwithstanding. Ain't it strange? Such a brilliant pop song. In my (slightly biased) estimation, they've had at least a dozen unquestionably radio-ready pop songs released since 2011 but none of them have charted. The 'Pollinator' album was brimming with potential singles and whilst 'Fun' gained a little traction, tracks such as 'Long Time", 'Doom Or Destiny' and 'Too Much' were archetypal Blondie pop songs - right up there with their very best.

I like Kylie, despite her first two albums being of no merit. She gradually improved over time but hit a roadblock after 'Fever'. Neighbours was so big in the UK in 1988 and I was pretty much obsessed with anything associated with it. I bought I Should Be So Lucky well before it was a hit, and even though the album “Kylie” was Stock/Aitken/Waterman trash, I quite liked it at the time. I remember buying Especially For You on the day of release and asking for it at the counter, with the HMV assistant asking “do you want it?” when they were clearly thinking along the lines of “why on earth is a 17-year-old lad buying this??” I then lost interest for a few years, though was well aware of the singles and her transformation into SexKylie. I agree, after Fever I did lose interest again. Kylie herself is generally much more of an appeal than the majority of her music, whoever is producing it. Is it unusual for an act to record two completely different songs with the same title? Both Kylie and Madonna have done it. Kylie had “Love At First Sight” on both “Kylie” (1988) and Fever (2002), while Madonna used “Forbidden Love” twice, for Bedtime Stories (1994) and Confessions on a Dancefloor (2005).

I like Kylie too, I don’t think she gets credit she deserves, seen as pop starlet with bugglegum hits, but visually her music videos have great narratives to them and once you start investigating it’s amazing what’s in there, like Sleepwalker mini musical: where most modern audiences see the stories of Snow White and Sleeping Beauty as anti-female, Kylie does a mini musical showing how it’s the female who is her own hero in the underworld when asleep, plus the amount of times she has taken deities like Aphrodite or Hecate, or the ghost in Where The Wild Roses Grow. One time I tweeted her musical director: Steve Anderson and said Kylie should do a musical about Death & Deity as the amount of times it is featured in her music videos. I love the Video of Padam Padam, as Kylie is portraying a Siren who seduces us, the viewer, and she is showing that love can be found in amongst squalor as she is reclining seductively in a car junkyard. Kylie portrayed a Siren in What Do I Have to Do video, but the poor guy was in the video, in Padam it’s us who’s under the spell. I love her work, there is a good book there about her career choices.

Kylie narrowly misses the Top 10 and moves up to #12. It is her biggest since since 2014. The last time in Top 10 was in 2011.

Chartwise, Loreen is doing much better than I expected, 4 weeks in the Top 10.
Salewise, it is 121,000 over the past 4 weekd.
Kylie sold 20.000 to get to #12 lastvwerk.. 75% of that was Streaming. It sold 2,500 on download and 2,500 on CD - which was issued last week.
ABBA's first two Voyage singles had their first week sales a little higher but that Streaming/Sales split was very similar.
You don't need much to get to #1 in any Singles Sales Chart. That's why albums are important - especially for veteran acts.

Agree Johnny , a bit of a surprise all round, less so Tattoo, but didn't think it would be so high let alone climb. The other 3, UK , Finland , Norway has also surprised as all still in the top 100 abeit the lower reaches and probability is they will disappear next week, so all in all ESC 2023 a success.
