Kiki Dee's 'Star' is a fabulous song. It was indeed a hit here in the UK, but the fact that it didn't manage to break into the Top 10 was a scandalous travesty. Top 3 would have been justice. In fact, IIRC, none of her solo records went Top 10 here. Another track that should have been massive was this one. Made the Top 40 in '91, but not the 30. Cracking hooks, brilliant lyrics. But suffered from the fact that the band was still associated with the (now missing) wayward Scotsman...

In fact, IIRC, none of her solo records went Top 10 here. I think #13 is her highest solo placing. Three of her singles peaked there: Amoureuse; Loving And Free; and Star. I think I'll fire up my old Kiki Dee playlist on iTunes now while I prep things for tomorrow. A burst of Chicago, How Glad I Am or Perfect Timing would be a nice foil for endless Mariah Carey on the radio. And johnny, I presume you've heard Liza Minnelli's PSB-produced version of Twist In My Sobriety? It's brilliantly bonkers, complete with a camp-as-titz rap.

On the subject of “Amoureuse”, Olivia Newton-John covered the song on her third album, “Music Makes My Day” in 1973. This is the version I’m most familiar with, though I did check out Kiki Dee’s version in the late 1980s just for comparison. Olivia performed the track live on TV a couple of times, including this performance:
