Low ratings for Abba against the odds in the Netherlands. 352.000 people watched the docu. It was broadcasted on prime time.

And the long-awaited 10-minute full length version of Little Things at that. I can’t wait. This is so exciting.

NPO 3 is a major channel. Mamma Mia is in the theatre again, MM the party in Rotterdam, several tribute bands in the Netherlands....a bit too much Abba I think.

Don't forget this BBC radio series. I have listened to the first one. Will get round to the rest. Btw, it says ABBA not invited to Eurovision in 1975. B).. ABBA showed that they wanted to do as little as possible to 'Celebrate' their 1974 Win. Let's face it - they never even turned up, in 1975, to present the Winner's Trophy. The previous Year's Winning Act always turn up the following Year. But, even by 1975, ABBA had lost interest in the Contest. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/series/m001xvs5?partner=uk.co.bbc&origin=share-mobile

Swedish Television didn't want them there in 1975! That was the problem back then, not ABBA themselves... Btw, it says ABBA not invited to Eurovision in 1975 Wasn’t it mentioned in the Against The Odds documentary that the stuffy Swedish music industry didn’t want Eurovision in Sweden in 1975, and as it was ABBA (this horrible commercial pop group) that brought it there, much of the vitriol would have been aimed at them had they attended. Therefore, they weren’t invited so as to keep the peace.

I’m still not convinced about that. The last two times we entered a good song (Love Shine A Light and Space Man) we either won or would have won but for the invasion of Ukraine. Our other entries have mostly been pathetic, and this year’s was a prime example. I think you’re being a bit naive there? No votes from the public? Seriously? I would agree it’s not a great song and he’s far from being a great singer but he didn’t deserve that. Maybe you’re right, Alan. But surely if Space Man was a winner (bar the war in Ukraine), that proves that the UK can win with a decent song, and is not so hated?

Looking at the poll results in this thread where 26 people voted 20 thought there would be a TV documentary ✅️ 20 also said unreleased Voyage songs to get a release. Jury still out but I feel it looks less likely. More people thought there would have been a "special event" at the ABBA Arena rather than Eurovision. And two people opted for a new album. Bless! The documentaries are as good as it gets I feel. I have listened to that Radio seriea now www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/series/m001xvs5?partner=uk.co.bbc&origin=share-mobileI thought it was quite good. But a number of observations. 1. First episide up to Waterloo win and Fourth the post 1992 period. These seem about right. The 1974 (after Eurovision) to 1982 was crammed into 2 episodes, just under an hour. I think 3 would have been better even if it meant ditching the episode on the Voyage show. This is the most important period. 2. A factual error - the runner up at Eurovision got 18 points not 15. 3. Too much is made of the Aistralian factor. I would put SOS getting into the UK Top 10, after 3 flops, due to its Seaside Special appearance and subsequent airplay. Yes, Australia was important in the 1992 comeback. But focus too much on Bjorn Again and nothing on those couple of Aussie films - or the Erasure ABBA covers EP getting to #1 in the UK. 4. I would have mentioned the ABBA promotion in the US in May 1978 and the success of The Album there. This period 1974-82 could have had more time devoted to it.

The Joke? It's been done twice before...and last time was a total flop. And fans, hardcore or casual are meant to be enthused by this...

^ it was meant as a joke, but our recent experiences with 30 plus variations on Voyage (ok, not all on vinyl, but still) makes your joke schockingly realistic.
Imagine a box with every released ABBA Song on 12 inch Maxi Singles, 2 tracks each side with newly designed covers, well and the 2 missing Voyage songs plus additional songs from the vaults…, etc.
Each box 999 £
Sounds bizarre, but the music business has become some sort of bizarre 🤪

Obviously we also know now that some ABBA songs have seen the completion of their official Dolby Atmos mix, since they were unveiled at ABBA World in Malmö. Perhaps there might be plans to commercially release? That could count as a 50th anniversary release event perhaps, if so? (I know nothing of any set plans, of course).

I haven't lost hope for some interesting anniversary release yet. When do you think is the latest we can expect an official announcement if something gets released at the end of the year (for the Christmas market, I think it would be). End of September? Early October? If nothing is announced by the end of October, I will finally believe it is over and this was the dullest of anniversaries ever.

Michal, I admire your optimism! I think the boat’s sailed on that though. I agree, it has been the dullest of major anniversary years. At the start of the year we thought we might have plenty of exciting releases to look forward to. In the end there was nothing (the Waterloo releases were part of an ongoing series that’s become increasingly tired and, even for that, weren’t particularly interesting).

The whole anniversary shebang has gone completely off the boil. It offered really useful opportunities but just fizzled out. I'm finding it hard to get to grips with the label not pushing hard to extract our hard-earned money from us!
Most Christmas releases will be prepared and ready to ship at a moment's notice, I reckon, so the marketing campaigns will be kicking off soon. If they have anything up their sleeves, I reckon we should hear about it in early September - with preorders and what-have-you kicking off. The word "if" is doing all the heavy lifting. My optimism has all but disappeared.
The biggest anniversary was utterly squandered.

Alan , I don't know if it's optimism or naivity but I find it hard to believe that they (I mean Universal, not necessarily ABBA) would let such an important anniversary pass by just like that. As HOMETIME pointed out, I would expect the label push hard and release ANYTHING, even if it was yet another coloured vinyls box set. ABBA has been such a cash cow for so long so why on earth they should miss such an opportunity? Have Benny and Björn stamped their feet and said it was finally enoug? Why would they do it right now, when they approved so many pointless releases in recent years? If nothing happens, I will be completely puzzled, rather than disappointed...

…I would expect the label push hard and release ANYTHING, even if it was yet another coloured vinyls box set. Good point. I’m glad you mentioned that. I don’t think many of us would welcome another such set, but it again begs the question: why did they do that in a random year? The coloured vinyl album box was in 2020, followed by the picture disc issues in 2022. It seemed an odd thing to do, as either or both of those could have been saved for 2024. My thinking at the time (particularly when the picture discs arrived, which was post-Voyage) that they were clearing the decks. Getting them out the way as they had much more important releases planned for 2024. Equally with last year’s The Visitors issues. They were already two years late with those, and had done Ring Ring earlier in the year. Why rush them out? To leave just the Waterloo one (arguably the most boring of the series so far) for this year made no sense whatsoever if nothing else was in the pipeline. Perhaps it’s not too late?

I am still hoping there is at least some kind of anthology in a way that celebrates the Thank You For The Music boxset.

What? 😳 Middle of August and Christmas campaigns just around the corner? If there is a release I wonder what...probably just another Definitive type Collection.. Yep! Vinyl versions of those releases are probably being pressed and artwork being printed as we speak. For the majority of acts, release dates are already in the diary, with promotional campaigns laid out and signed off. To illustrate things, there's an album being released in October that I pre-ordered in early July and from which four tracks have already been drip-fed since the first announcement. The artwork is out there, promo has already begun and the first review is in the current Classic Pop mag. If there is an ABBA product in the pipeline, you can be sure that every last detail has been nailed down by now. Advance copies (embargoed) will soon be on their way to the big industry mags in time for reviews the October/November editions, ads in print media have probably been bought, and the final edits of any TV ads are probably being done at the moment. A release will be partially designed for inclusion in Christmas shopping - deluxe editions and box sets tend to do really well in the Christmas market. My hunch is that a new release would be issued no later than mid-November. I tend to agree with your view of what might be coming (if anything). I reckon the very best we can hope for is a new song or two on a new compilation. And the way this "big anniversary" has gone so far, I'm not holding my breath.
