I'm not sure the 2 songs recorded for Voyage were outtakes due to "not being good enough", I'm hoping they were held back due to their strength as potental singles/promotion for the 50th Anniversary releases. If the titles of the 2 tracks are accurate, I'd guess Hit By A Train is uptempo and My Story Ends With You is a ballad, although it could be the complete opposite. I also want lots more 3rd voice from the ladies as per the 2nd chorus of DSMD, and I wouldn't mind it having disco elements as well (when we got the song titles for the upcoming Voyage album, and there was one called "When you Danced with Me", I had visions of Voulez Vous era danciness, so was disappointed when Celtic folkiness came out of my speakers, although I do love it now).

I absolutely believe the 2 songs were kept back for this year, and nothing to do with the quality of them.

Absolutely! It was all a cunning plan to release an album that got mixed reviews (UK newspapers gave 2 to 5 stars) but then fool people into thinking that was as good as it got. Then boom! Release your best songs ever on your 50th anniversary of ESC win. 😀

Carl Magnus Palm has declared the imminent publication of his new ABBA: On Record book, but interestingly just a few days ago he announced "I can also reveal that ABBA On Record has been extended by eight pages, from the projected 448 pages to 456". Surely this has to be due to newly-revealed information he has acquired over some major event/new ABBA material, or both.

If we do have those two songs previously thought not good enough to include on Voyage, I hope they've been totally embellished with ABBA's most typically-ABBA feature, the choir of both girls' voices that is the centrepiece of such songs as "Lay All Your Love on Me" and pops up rather majestically at the end of songs such as "I Let the Music Speak" ("Let it be the joy of each new sunrise/Or the moment when the day dies/ ..."), or indeed in the goosebump-inducing opening of the lovely second chorus of "Don't Shut Me Down" when that choir pipes in (maybe a little too low in the mix for my liking) CHOIR: "So nowwwww" ... MAIN VOCALS: "And now you see another me ... Don't shut me down" CHOIR: "Doooooon't shut meeeeeee doooooooown!"
It's the highlight of that song for me, the girls' angelic choir, but unfortunately as soon as it starts, it's over. So, so delicious.
Please, please, if these two new songs exist, please have them both feature the old angelic A&A choir... and this time, at full volume in the mix!
I know some may argue "When You Danced With Me" has the choir, but it's not angelic in nature as it is in both "Lay All Your Love On Me" and those much-too-short and too low in the mix moments at the beginning of DSMD's second chorus.
Here's one manipulated version on youtube that makes the very short choir sections more prominent than in the original mix:
I get exactly what you mean about the 'angelic' harmonies and agree wholeheartedly. Their lower harmonies are great too, of course, but there's something especially wonderful about that perfect higher pitch harmony they do together. And in Voyage, you only get bits and pieces of it here and there. The second chorus of Don't Shut Me Down, select chorus lines in I Still Have Faith In You, the outro of No Doubt About It, near the end of Bumblebee... I think the reason you only hear it now and then on Voyage is because with age Agnetha and Frida's voices (especially Frida's) are lower pitched now so they can't reach the same 'height' of harmony as they once could for extended periods of time. But they're still able to very comfortably do lower harmonies akin to the likes of Fernando and Knowing Me, Knowing You of old - you can hear that in When You Danced With Me and Keep An Eye On Dan. So while I'd dearly love more 'angelic' harmonies if we get the two extra songs, on balance of probability you're not likely to get them for more than a line or two.

Thank you jj for posting that link. I hadn't heard these "atmos" mixes before today and they are incredible! The details and the clarity that they bring out of the muddy original mixes!! The lead vocals on ICBTW and Bumblebee in particular are totally elevated. It's almost like a de-ageing process! And the air between the layers of vocals on NDAI make it a whole new track. Some utterly beautiful harmonies unearthed in ISHFIY, WYDWM and DSMD. And the vocals in OTF?!! Sublime. Bernard Lohr did the girls dirty. If a deluxe edition of Voyage was to be presented like this, I'd be all over it and ignoring that I bought multiples of the woolly original. Just wow!

⬆️ Absolutely agree. I believe this is what the album may have sounded, had Michael Tretow been involved. He never would have allowed for a mix with backing vocals buried down to the extent of being practically inaudible. I listened to the Voulez-Vous album today and it made me wonder again how pristine the production and final mixes were - one can hear every layer of the recording perfectly separated and clear. Voyage is a disappointment in this regard.

If this is all that's happening , there's going to be a lot of upset fans.... Surely there is going to be more than this... a few trinkets won't cut it.....
I know we tend to get a bit underwhelmed, and there will be those who say they owe us nothing, but remember it's " us" who got them to where they are today, that's harsh but you know what I mean, rumours are rife of course and they are just that until anything happens...so I guess we wait and see... we're very good at that ...
As an aside.. how many think 2024 is it, nothing else.......

A pint and a keyring. Got to be a bit more to these shows than that, surely? I remember when I went to the '40 years since Waterloo' bash at the Tate Modern in 2014, I got a bag, a 'special' CD copy of Waterloo and a postcard. Could have done with a drinks voucher on that occasion because, IIRC, the Swedish beer wasn't cheap!* Edit: *Also got personal appearances by Frida & Björn, so I don't want to imply that the free bag was the highlight.

Replying to foreverfan, yes I think 2024 will be it, possibly pushing into 2025 for the 1975 ABBA album anniversary release. As morbid as it sounds, we may only get the stuff from the vaults once Benny is no longer around to veto its release.

As morbid as it sounds, we may only get the stuff from the vaults once Benny is no longer around to veto its release. Not sure that’s a given. Assuming his wife and Ludvig are the executors (is that the right word?!) of his estate, they would surely comply with his wishes and not release it. I certainly wouldn’t go against a parent’s or spouse’s wishes. I’d say if it’s going to happen, it’s got to be when he’s still alive. Björn might have a say - if he outlives Benny - but again if it’s up to Mona and Ludvig (and his other children?) to have the final word, it’s unlikely.

Anyone going to the 6th April Voyage show? Would ABBA, or some members at least be there?

I know someone who is going on that date.
I’m actually going myself a week tomorrow. It was a surprise Christmas present. Part of me is glad to be seeing the same show again as it’s been 20 months since I saw it, but another part wishes it was 6 April onwards (that’s assuming there really is a set change - there’s been no confirmation that there will be one then or at any time after).
It depends what else is going on but I’d imagine Björn and Benny might be there. Frida too possibly, but the awkwardness with three of them is that attention then focuses on the one that isn’t (as happened on the first anniversary).

ABBA will not be at Voyage on 6th April. This was already confirmed in the Fan Club magazine in December 2923.

I would almost bet they won't be there not only because of the announcement in the FC magazine but also because of the SVT gala. They will be oficially invited and I can't see them turning the invitation in Stockholm down and flying to London instead.

The announcement in the fanclub magazine literally read: "Talking of 1974 and the upcoming fiftieth anniversary of Waterloo, we have received several questions regarding April 6th. ABBA themselves will not be involved in anything on that day, so please feel free to celebrate the occasion as you wish."
I guess a lot of fans expected some kind of celebration at the Voyage Arena, with the ABBA members in attendance, because that date had been blocked from ticket sales until recently. Sadly, this won't be happening. I would have been happy to fly to London again for a celebratory performance of Voyage with ABBA in attendance, but not for a 'normal' performance, with a Waterloo commemorative gift and a free drink.

I’d heard something along those lines on PopJustice, but thanks for the direct quote. That’s a recent magazine isn’t it? At least it stops any speculation. I’m fine with that, as it doesn’t quash any hopes of new music. They don’t need to promote that in person. However, the interpretation of “ABBA” could be taken as only meaning all four of them together. I really can’t see Björn not attending anything, media wh*re that he is (meant in a nice way but we all know it’s true. At least compared with any of the others).

Alan, yes it was in the December magazine. I know what you mean about Bjorn. Its curious with all the people involved with ABBA there hasn't been a smidge of a leak concerning their release plans for 2024.

As we have two similar threads going on and posts about the apparent lack of new songs being released, I have amended both topic titles and moved a couple of posts. Anything about the “new songs” that Björn has appeared to confirm will not be happening can go here: abbachat.boards.net/thread/1623/more-new-songs-voyage-sessionsAnything else relating to the anniversary can go in this thread. Just removes confusion and duplicate-ish posts / not knowing which one to post in.

What do.people think will happen for the 50 years abba winning the Eurovision song contest this year Not sure if you’ve been following this and other topics, but as things stand right now, not a lot! ABBA themselves apparently won’t be doing anything (or at least not all four of them together) and there is also - allegedly - no new or previously unreleased music to be unveiled. They are leading us to believe it’s going to be a bit of a damp squib. For “damp” I would read soaking wet.
