I did listen to Voyage earlier today to mark its anniversary. It doesn’t often get an airing. It was the Atmos mixes which are far superior to the actual album. I hear things, harmonies etc, that I hadn’t heard before.

I love this album more with each year. Even Little Things, which most fans don't like, I appreciate the joy of. And as far as I'm concerned, DSMD, ISHFIY, NDAI and WYDWM all stand toe to toe with ABBA's other classic songs.

I agree with you about those four songs you say as good as the best of ABBA. Well, maybe not quite but still very good.
The trouble is they are matched by three pretty terrible songs - LT, ICBTW, and Bumblebee. The other three songs are average at best, imo.

Funny you say that - ICBTW and Bumblebee are two songs I loved from the word go! The ones that grew on me over time were KAEOD and OTF.And JAN has the unfortunate distinction of going down in my estimation since three years ago...

I still give the album an uninterrupted outing these days. In fact, it's playing as I type.

I haven't listened to " Voyage " for a while. " I Still Have Faith In You " and " Don't Shut Me Down " are classics. " Little Things " and " Just A Notion " are nothing less than mediocre. I still love " I Can Be That Woman " and " When You Danced With Me ". Typically ABBA ! " Ode To Freedom " also remains a favourite and I have a fondness for " Bumblebee ". However " No Doubt About It " and " Keep An Eye On Dan " have slipped down my ratings. I think I will give it a spin.

Paulman, I can understand your disappointment and frustration about " the negative treatment " of " Just Like That ". Why Benny has condemned it as unworthy of release I can't understand either. Thank you for posting one of the many versions of. " Just Like That ". Another ABBA epic. Simply stunning and moving. I love it. Let's form a petition to have this reflective powerhouse finally released. If Agnetha and Frida love it why can't Benny and Bjorn. Please, please Benny reconsider and have the song finally aired with a slick modern mix and production.

Johnny, it is interesting how our fondness for a particular track on " Voyage " changes in such a short space of time. Alan, I had no idea Paulman hasn't been posting. My apologies.

Eddie - Never any need in my book to apologise for 'bigging up' JLT. For me it has all the ingredients of an Abba classic and Benny's view that the verses and choruses do not sit well with each other (therefore meaning it should not be released) is totally at odds with other songs like SILOC of which the same could be said. Always thought the Visitors album would have been much stronger had it included SILOC and TDBYC at the expense of the lightweight fluff (imo) of HOH and the (imo) gibberish nonsense that is TFTPOO - not even the backing vocals can save that turkey for me. Being greedy I'd even drop either SILOC or TDBYC for JLT. One can dream.

I still listen to Voyage more than any other Abba album, not because it is their best, but because it was such an unexpected treat.
The first three songs on my list below, are right up there with the best of Abba’s output, and the next three (4-6) are pretty close. Songs 7-9 are pleasant enough, and I do not mean that as being bland or inferring criticism. In fact, I recently heard No Doubt About It on the radio and it came over very well (to my surprise). I can do without JAN though.
1. Don't Shut Me Down 2. I Still Have Faith in You 3. Ode to Freedom 4. When You Danced With Me 5. Keep an Eye on Dan 6. I Can Be That Woman 7. No Doubt About It 8. Bumblebee 9. Little Things 10. Just a Notion

First two singles still the favourites. No love generally for Little Things or No Doubt About It.
Over the past 3 years I have gone off Ode to Freedom a bit and like When You Danced With Me more.

My two penny's worth...and like all of us I expect not set in stone...apart from number 1... Ironically very similar to bjorenny ^^
1. Don't Shut Me Down 2. When You Danced With Me 3. Just A Notion 4. Keep An Eye On Dan 5. I Still Have Faith In You 6. No Doubt About It 7. I Can Be That Woman 8. Ode To Freedom 9. Bumblebee 10. Little Things
I tend to prefer uptempo, depending on mood of course, there's not one song I really dislike, however apart from my first top 3, the rest are not played a lot... As for LT, it was just a major disappointment. Things could have been so much better and we would've had a perennial Christmas hit each year, another story/ thread.. it will be interesting or not..lol ..see if the vinyl version has any impact on the charts/ airplay... I doubt it..but might make the meaningless single vinyl charts.. probably number 1 if not a top 5....

My current feelings about the various tracks lead to this ranking:
1. I Still Have Faith In You 2. Don't Shut Me Down 3. No Doubt About It 4. I Can Be That Woman 5. Ode To Freedom 6. When You Danced With Me 7. Bumblebee 8. Keep An Eye On Dan 9. Little Things 10 Just A Notion
For a long time, I enjoyed the feelgood bounce of Just A Notion, but those vocals are so unABBA in their messiness. A lead vocal could have made a world of difference, I think. Anyway, that's a big part of why the song is bottom of the pile for me. I still enjoy the album, especially played as a whole.

My ranking:
1 I Still Have Faith In You 2 Don’t Shut Me Down 3 Just A Notion 4 I Can Be That Woman 5 No Doubt Anout It 6 Ode To Freedom 7 When You Danced With Me 8 Bumblebee 9 Keep An Eye On Dan 10 Little Things
My low opinion of the album hasn’t changed. I do play it occasionally. Only the first two singles approach the quality of their 70s/80s stuff. They work well in the show, which I saw earlier this week.

Tiger76, it is criminal to relegate " Just Like That " to the vaults. Locked away for good and never destined to return. It is such a great song. So haunting with a typical " Nordic noir " feel to it. Agnetha's lead is nothing short of beautiful and the chorus is so unmistakably ABBA with Frida joining in. I agree I would replace SILOC with JLT any day.

It’s hardly “locked away” when there are three versions out there that everyone’s heard. However, my argument for releasing it would be just that - it’s already known so what’s the problem with releasing it so everyone can hear it in professional sound quality? That’s the bit I don’t understand - I can understand them refusing anything that’s never been heard (or, if heard, only once by a few select people, as in the case of Hit By A Train).
With Little Things, I still think it would have gone down better had it only been released as a single, post album (and not on it), and no one knew anything about it until it was released. It would have been an unexpected surprise and might have been tolerated better.
The problem is that Björn bigged it up at the album launch meaning people were hoping for something better. And sticking a Christmas song on a studio album is always a bad idea (this is a “proper” Christmas song as it describes Christmas morning, for goodness sake, it’s not the same as Happy New Year). I’d even have put up with it being only a nine-track album (and perhaps extend some of the other tracks a bit).

PS: Happy New Year is clearly a New Year's Eve/Day/Time song ....but then again Alan, you argued, The Singles was not a flop.
