Thanks, Martin. I have never been a regular viewer of Saturday Night Live and didn't see it. I don't even recall hearing about ABBA being on the show. I must not have heard about it, otherwise I surely would've watched the show. No surprise, considering that I also don't recall hearing in 1979 that they were coming to North America.  I could've seen them in Chicago. |

^^ There was (maybe still is Zeebee?) an unbreakable golden rule that nobody mimes on SNL. ABBA did so on one of the two songs they performed (Waterloo I think, with SOS sung live). This caused a row within the SNL production team about whether it should be allowed or not, which was eventually resolved by treating ABBA as a joke, performing on a sinking Titanic, with the fact that they were lip-synching revealed in subtitles during the performance.
It was apparently a pretty big deal that an act had mimed on SNL; nobody risked it again till Ashlee Simpson almost thirty years later.
