Frida recording 'You Know What I Mean' in 1982. It's all worth watching, but here are the moments I found most interesting. First, Phil Collins seemed oddly surprised that he was producing someone who on the first day in the studio 'opened her mouth and was perfectly in tune...we looked at each other and said Christ this is going to be easy': Also, the recording of the song is filmed both outside and inside the booth, showing off Frida's vocals both with and without studio reverb: Finally, a break for lunch with a former member of the world's most famous band of all time. And here she is, chatting to that guy out of the Beatles

Was trying for ages to find the last part of these 'funnies'. "I'm Bjorn" followed by that cackling laugh she has when she's really lost it.

My favorite: Interviewer: "Are you ever going to get married?" Frida: "Oh, no."

Post-Eurovision interview with Frida, uploaded to Youtube years ago yet new to me and with surprisingly few views and comments. This was the interview in which Stig was upset by the question about Waterloo as an inappropriate theme for a song.

Thanks shoshin. There is another similar video on Youtube and here's a translation of the interview.
Interviewer : "Anni-Frid Lyngstad.... Was this unexpected?"
Frida : "I would have to say yes. I hardly dared to hope for it".
Interviewer : "But did you feel that this song would hit home with the European audience?"
Frida : "Yes. I felt that we stood a fair chance. But I never thought we would win".
Interviewer : "What was it about this song that you thought would appeal to people?".
Frida : "I think the title, to a great extent,...Waterloo."
Interviewer : "Stikkan Anderson...You wrote this song. Why does one write a schlager about Waterloo?".
Stig : "When you write a Eurovision schlager, you don't write a schlager for Sweden but for Europe and
the rest of the world. The first thing you do is to take a title that you think will be understood by everybody. Last year's song was similar. It was called 'Ring, Ring'. That title was the same in all other languages. Interviewer : " Last year you did a schlager about telephoning each other. This year you did a schlager
about how 40,000 people died. Cynically put...." Stig : "Yes, that was very cynically put. That was not our intention. 'Waterloo' is a famous concept all over
the world. It represents something that has happened in history. It doesn't have anything to do with people dying....Nice angle, I must say." Interviewer : "What does it mean for Sweden and Swedish schlager production to win this event?"
Stig : "To start with, I think it means a lot to Sweden as a tourist country. Sweden has been doing this for
19 years and entered the Eurovision, and now we finally won it. So next year, journalists from all over the world will come to Stockholm."
It does sort of sum up the hard time the band were getting from the media at home even from an early age.

Not very friendly. Lol. Bjorn took the punch pretty well, though.

Interesting / Useless (delete as necessary) bit of trivia is that the host for that QX gala, Sissela Kyle, is a comedy actress who also appeared as the receptionist in 'The Last Video' in 2004. Like how the Frida puppet hits the deck whilst performing too.

If only she'd taken her tumble while singing Waterloo and they'd effected raindrops. This is a great find. Abba videos in general are cool in this forum too, I would say. Whatever keeps us talking.

That was quick. Thanks for that. Have seen a few clips but never the whole programme before. Frida looks good in her 'Jane' outfit. Does Midsummer make the swedes act funny?

^^^^^ Can't understand Swedish but I think the song was about what the best or most useful part of the body is. Frida says 'the finger'. Svenne Hedlund says 'the nose' and Danish comedian Finn Alberth goes for 'the foot'.

Most of us will have seen the uncomfortable pre-Honey,Honey band introduction on Star Parade, in which Agnetha is disproportionately acclaimed by the audience compared to Frida. So I thought I would even it up with the reverse experience. Here, Frida gets the shout from the audience, while Agnetha doesn't receive any applause at all. In fact, Björn does better on that score

Here, Frida gets the shout from the audience... And the wave back that she does to the random audience member is so cute. It's like she was so much in her element, just loving people back.

As a charm offensive, it's easy to see how they bowled the Aussies over. In fact 'charm offensive' seems a bit cynical really. I think they lived up to how they were imagined to be by just being themselves.

A couple of cool recent uploads on Youtube. First one is 'The Charlie Norman Show' from 1970. There's some great live music throughout. Frida features at 01:55, 7:28 ('Love and Marriage') and 24:52 ('Baby Love' and closing number).
