shoshin. Can you see your own name in the 24 hour list? Or is it a quirk that we can see all other members who have logged in except ourselves. Because I can't see my name there yet I am in the 'Online' box above it.

You weren't, but you were in the currently active list. Now I'm logged in I am no longer in the 24 hour list, even though I've been in and out earlier. It seems to take you out of the 24 hour list if you are currently signed on.

...the only reason I log in every day, whether or not I find something to post about, is so that one more member is added to the daily stats... OK, so, why wouldn't you just stay logged in? And how do we know these guests are actually other members who aren't logging in? A lot of people came here when Abba4ever ended, signed in, pronounced that they came over, then faded. It happens. Not a problem. People's interests change. Restricting parts of the forum obviously won't get those people to log in. Forcing members who don't feel a need to log in to do so for the purpose of seeing photos won't make them participate. They'll probably just stay logged in like I do, look at the pictures, and still never talk. Personally, I see more value in participation than just seeing more names pop up on a list of people who logged in today. I'm not grumbling, Martin. I'm encouraging people to contribute more to the forum we all seem to have an interest in, making it more interesting itself. Of course they don't have to, but I think we agree there are lazy tendencies here. I just don't think we can strong arm members to change that.

I really think we have our lines crossed here. I honestly can't see the connection between the points you are making and the objective of the proposal that I floated, so all I can conclude is that I must have explained the proposal badly. Anyway, time to 'Move On'

You explained it fine. I get that you want more of our guests to log in. My point is that forcing them to log in to see their favorite threads won't make them participate. But we can end it here if you prefer.

Roxy, don't worry about annoying members by making them log in. It isn't as though logging in were difficult or time-consuming.
As Tony pointed out, a number of people are members of both forums, so if there were only one forum, I don't know that there would be any more activity than there is here or on abaforum.
All of this reminds me of a certain member of the old forum. Her username was ChicagoGirl. She seldom logged in, and she never posted, but she did PM me once, in response to a post. In fact, in that message, she mentioned the fact that she never posted. Later, I noticed that she ws no longer a member of the forum-she was no longer on the member list.
