Internet going haywire. Yes, it's been officially announced. Two new songs, one of which will feature in the ABBAtar unveiling TV show. What with Frida sounding amazing on Arturo Sandovals album, this is an incredible day.

I'd say I'd wait forever, lol... but that's to long... December will be here before we know, and just think of all the rumours that will flow through the media, to keep us guessing and wishing, next a new album !! not that I'm cynical .. some of us have been waiting for 30 odd years, so what's another few months, as long as I manage to stay alive...lol meanwhile we have MM2 to keep us going. The news has made the BBC website... news is in full swing...might even make TV news....

If you'd asked me yesterday, I'd have said that the chances of ABBA releasing some new material were about the same as North and South Korea making peace. No doubt in MY mind about which is the more important story! (Unless Kim Jong-un and his South Korean counterpart release a single, of course.)

Considering the level of Björn and Benny's self-criticism I guess the songs must be 1st class, otherwise they wouldn't risk ABBA's reputation. Maybe it won't be even presented as ABBA - what if they released it under the group name Björn & Benny, Agnetha & Frida I wonder if the songs will be released as singles separately...

I knew that ABBA could record New Songs for the Holograms. A few Fans told me that it was not going to happen. That the Holograms would only sing ABBA Songs that had already been released - the 'Old' Songs. There was no reason to think that only the 'Old' Songs would be used.
We will see where it all ends. Of course, other Groups can also Tour as Holograms. There is nothing to stop them. I wonder if Holograms of The Beatles can be made, even though 2 of them are dead? ABBA had to be photographed from dozens of angles, to create their Holograms.....Queen could do it too. Even with Freddie dead.
So, there are 2 New Songs, (so far), & one is called 'I Still Have Faith In You'. All ABBA have to do is to not sound like everyone else. They should just record as if ABBA exist alone in the 'Music World'. It is how they stood out in their time together - by just being themselves. Not copying off other Acts - and certainly going no-where near 'Rap'!!!!!!!
Both would be 'A' Sides, as 'B' Sides no longer exist. I'm sure that both will be excellent. We will see what Universal do with the 2 Songs. It is incredibly hard for 'Old Acts' to have Top 10 Hits these days - but ABBA may over-come that. If not, then we could have a fresh ABBA Compilation - with the 2 New Tracks as 'Bait', to tempt 'The Fans' to buy it. We will see. In the UK, Madonna can no longer have Top 10 Singles, nor can Kylie Minogue, nor can Take That. In the 'Age Of Streaming' the 'Old Acts' struggle in the 'Singles' Chart. Maybe even ABBA can no longer reach the Top 10. It is another matter with Albums - the 'Old Acts' can still do very well in the Album Chart.
I cannot say how relieved I am to hear this ABBA News. I'm so tried of the Hits of today, being so dull compared to previous Decades. People want Melodies again.
One 'vision' is - a future ABBA Album - sung by the 'Real' ABBA in the Studio, but 'sung' & promoted by the Hologram ABBA on Tour. It is easy to see that it can be done...
There are endless possibilities...

We have to be thankful that ABBA plan to introduce us to the 2 New Songs via the Avatars Show.
Imagine if they had decided to let us hear them in 'Mamma Mia! 2'?!
They would have been murdered by any of the Cast who cannot sing.
As far as I can see, only Cher & Lily James have decent voices, in the entire Film.
So, we will be relieved that we will hear the 2 Songs by ABBA & not spoiled for us.

Colin - there seems to be a suggestion in an article on ABBA Talk that one of the two new songs will be released as a single. What do you think about its prospects for success? The singles chart, at least in the UK, is obviously very different in many ways than it was in ABBA's day, but surely a brand new ABBA single would be streamed by a lot of people, if only out of curiosity. Is a tenth ABBA number one a possibility?

Vinyl is back and so is ABBA! Takes me right back to the 70s again. Getting all excited about the next ABBA release and then release date arriving and almost ceremonially adding brand new vinyl to my collection.
Who would have thought it could happen again. But it is.
Fantastic news.

Gary - Due to 'Streaming', it is now very hard indeed for 'Old Acts' to have Top 10 Singles in the UK. Madonna had Zero Top 10 Hits off her last 2 Albums, & she has had over 60 UK Top 10 Singles. Kylie Minogue got no-where near the Top 10 with the 1st 2 Singles off her current 'Golden' Album & she's had over 30 UK Top 10 Singles. Madonna has not had a UK Top 10 Single since 2009...
However, with the hype & attention that a New ABBA Single would get, they may beat the odds & actually have their 20th UK Top 10 Single. They have been stuck on 19 Top 10 Hits for Years - as have the Bee Gees.
If ABBA were to tie their Single in with a Charity - say Children In Need - then it would get stocked by every Super Market in the UK. They could release it as both a CD & a Download. It would be huge. Maybe even their 10th UK No.1 Single.
If ABBA wanted a 100% certain, on-going presence, in the UK & Global Singles Charts, the answer to that is simple. They need only record a Christmas Song. Every December, many Artists return to the UK, Irish, German etc. Singles Charts, because they recorded Christmas Singles. It happens with Wham!, Boney M, Mariah Carey, Bing Crosby, Wings, Elton John, Brenda Lee, Slade, Wizzard, and Band Aid etc. ABBA never recorded a Christmas Single, so they are 100% missing from the Singles Charts every December. 'Happy New Year' does not work, as it only features 1 Day.
If ABBA only made a decent Christmas Single, we'd see it becoming a Hit again every December - for many Years to come... However, some ABBA Fans, think that it would be rather tacky for ABBA to do a Christmas Single. I see nothing wrong with it.

Fabulous news. Smiles across the world. Loads of coverage. It would be fab if they could hit number one again. Given that 5 million people plus have bought Gold that is a big potential market for any new material. If released in December could it be their first Christmas number one?

Remember Blondie had number 1 hit in the U.K. (1999 “Maria“) after approximately 20 years from being an active group, so ABBA would probably do as well! My hope is that the songs are issued as a double A sided single for all to enjoy. Because in my opinion, digital/holograms are not the end all be all for the music world...yet!

A 10th UK & German etc, ABBA No.1 Single - Is It Possible?
(I realise that it would be their 7th in Australia, 4th in Sweden, & 9th in The Netherlands etc.).
ABBAfun - When Blondie had their 6th UK No.1 Single, with 'Maria' in 1999, the way the UK Singles Chart worked was very different, to how it is in 2018. In 1999 CD Singles were still stocked by UK Record Stores & Super Markets.
Now, CD Singles have faded away & although Vinyl is on the rise again, its Sales are only a tiny fraction, of the Vinyl that was pressed by the Millions in the 1970's & 1980's etc.
So, it would be far harder for ABBA to have a 10th UK No.1 Single, than it was for Blondie, to have a 6th, in 1999.
It depends how many ABBA Fans are prepared to Download an ABBA Single & to 'Stream' an ABBA Single. Both methods are entirely new to ABBA's Singles releases. It is unknown territory for ABBA.
THE QUALITY OF 'I STILL HAVE FAITH IN YOU' & 'DON'T SHUT ME DOWN'
Already, some ABBA Fans are worrying that the 2 New ABBA Songs will be disappointing. That they may 'damage' ABBA's Legacy & so on.
They really should just relax. In 1995 The Beatles released 'Free As a Bird'. It was a UK No.2 Hit & a Hit in many other Countries. However, it wasn't very good. No-where near as good as their best Singles. In 1996 they released another 'New' Single - 'Real Love'. That was a UK No.4 Hit & - again - a Hit in a lot of other Countries. Neither were really 'New'. They were John Lennon Tracks, that he never finished. The other 3 Beatles just added their own vocals & music to them. But, both were extremely weak Singles.
In 1995 Queen released a 'New' Single - 'Heaven For Everyone'. It was a UK No.2 Hit & a Hit Globally. But that was not a good Queen Single. It was far from the Group at their best.
Despite all of this, the 1990's Beatles & Queen Singles did not damage the reputation of those 2 Groups.
After all - if the awful Singing in the 2 'Mamma Mia!' Films has not damaged ABBA, a couple of New ABBA Songs will be easy for ABBA's reputation to survive!
So, the ABBA Fans who are 'worrying', should just relax & wait & see what ABBA's 2 New Songs sound like.
Also, we really must show appreciation for ABBA recording the 2 Songs. It would feel awful - to ABBA - if they had made this effort for us, & then some Fans start saying that the Songs are 'Not very good', etc, when they hear them. We have to try to give ABBA some credit - for giving us New Songs. We must not start picking the New Songs apart & being critical of them. That would be hugely hurtful to ABBA.
AMANDA PLATELL - 'Daily Mail' Journalist - Putting ABBA Down - Thinking She's Clever
Amanda is from Australia, but she works for the UK 'Daily Mail',
In her Column, (today), she is very rude about ABBA. She makes 'Ageist Jokes'.
She is too stupid to realise, that as it will not be the 'Real' ABBA that is in the Hologram Show, her going on about how old ABBA are now is 100% irrelevant. The Holograms are ABBA from 1979 - not the ABBA from 2018.
Here is what she says:
ABBA will reunite on stage with new music 36 years after splitting. It will be a virtual reality tour with holograms using technology developed for the film Avatar. They’re called Abbatars. Oh dear. Who wants to hear Grandmamma Mia or Zimmer, Zimmer, Zimmer, A Man After Midnight?

Brilliant news! These two new songs, together with the unreleased ones from 1982, should be (almost) enough material for a new ABBA album
Hopefully "Opus 10" will finally be released.
