What possessed the record companies picking that picture of Abba to sell an album?Even for the 70s it was so twee, so Abigail’s party. I am sure there were better photos to pick to promote the album and group at the time. The made in Sweden photo would have been better, the Bang a boomerang one or the bench photo.Thankfully the UK got the bench photo. Didn’t stop it selling well though. Must be one of their worst album covers anywhere. That and that horrible Abba live album sketch from the 80s. The one with all the scaffolding. The first attempt at giving us a Live album. As for single covers two that I just hate are TDBYC and One of Us(Uk). So unflattering. I am sure other fans have their likes and dislikes too. Favourite single covers...KMKY,DQ, Angeleyes , SNC , IHAD and TWTIA.

From your reference to the bench photo, it sounds like you're talking about the first Greatest Hits album. And what do you mean by "Abigail's party"?

And what do you mean by "Abigail's party"? Could it be old fashioned or out of date?

Abigail's Party is a very good play starring Alison Steadman and directed by Mike Leigh. The image used for The Best of ABBA isn't one of my favourites by a long shot. I much prefer the park bench picture. It's iconic. It's very much of its time but also striking and classy.

Thanks Josef. The play as the name suggests was set at a party in the seventies when evening dresses down to your ankles were the mode of attire for the upwardly mobile to social events. Audrey Ledbetter in the Good Life had a few. Makes me smile thinking back to grapefruits studded with cocktail sticks with pieces of cubed cheese, picked onion and pineapple on the cocktail sticks.... a centre piece at any party of the time! Looked like a savoury porcupine. Spanish Lady dancer dolls, knitted toilet roll holders and castanets. Bold 3D light shades which came flat pack. See similar ones in the shops today, Must get a grapefruit.
