Recent years 4 Blondie - hits have been in TV -commercials in my country. I have never heard about Abba songs being used in Tv or other commercials . Have Abba given specific reasons for this policy of theirs ?

ABBA have actually appeared in commercials, using tweaked lyrics from Fernando to advertise electronic equipment for the Japanese company National. It's awful, although the group look good. I think they did it to pay for a tour. I can understand that. Pretty pricey.
I can't recall any statement from the group but I'm glad they don't allow their music to be used in this way (anymore). It cheapens the music.

According to Abba - The Official Photo Book, Benny was disgusted by the National commercial with its reworked Fernando lyrics ('There’s so much more to National. So much more than just the many, many things we make for you’) and said: ‘That did it for me, we’ve never sold another song again’.

I am sure that they allowed Coca Cola to use Slipping through my fingers in Japan. It was changed to sipping Coca Cola all the time.

I seem to remember "Move On" being used in a ferry commercial in the 1980s. It was a short-lived campaign, so I wonder if there was some accident involving the licencing of the track...

I’m glad that ABBA haven’t sold out any further by allowing their music in adverts. It redeems them slightly after Mamma Mia! Queen seems to have given in though, but at least some of them were mildly amusing (“Another one drives a Duster”, “Flash, ah-ha, cleans up the impossible”).
In recent years, I’ve noticed that songs that were never hits are turning up in adverts, and often quite new songs. Will Young’s Grace was used for a bank once (was it Nat West, I can’t remember). I knew it from an advert long before I discovered who it was. Similar with Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne’s “Rather Be” - I assumed that had been written for M&S and was gobsmacked to learn it was a song!
If ABBA’s music was used in this way (and I hope it never is), it would have to be something fitting. Not something tacky such as I Have A Dream advertising beds.

I seem to remember in the 80's The chocolate Toblerone used Honey Honey in their ad, also in the 70's Rock me was used in a deodrant ad.

A couple of years ago there was an advertisement of some sort (unfortunately I can't remember what it was for) playing on the radio that was using the intro of Mamma Mia as the background music. I remember being quite confused by it, especially since ABBA rarely ever plays on the radio where I live. xD

I once heard the intro to On And On And On in a public service announcement on the radio. I think it was in the late '80s or early '90s.
