I hope this becomes an interesting topic. Which ABBA song can you remember having a particular love/hate relationship with ? As I have mentioned already "Angeleyes" I grew out of favour with for a while until I recently re-discovered it and not through that awful movie. TDBYC ,also, I stopped listening to but after viewing the promo clip on Youtube a couple of years ago I fell in love with it although it is very dark and sombre. Some like SILOC or OAOAO slip the net with me. I used to find "The Visitors" interesting but not so much these days because of its un-ABBA chorus. SNC has, also, lost its appeal.Likewise, UA is far too weak. A couple of the early offerings such as BAB and I D I D I D have re-ignited my fondness. Times change don't they !

Not sure it's really a love/hate thing but I can definitely offer you an example of 'I know it's rubbish but I really like it for some unfathomable and indefensible reason' and that would be 'Rock 'n' Roll Band'.

I wouldn’t say I hate any songs. Hate is a strong word. I am biased towards the album tracks as, in my lifetime, I’ve heard them probably a tenth of the number of times that I’ve heard the singles. I’ll generally listen to an ABBA album exactly as it was originally sequenced, so that means singles and album tracks.
My Angeleyes/Voulez-Vous thread led me to listen to Voulez-Vous the other day. The deluxe edition from 2010, to which I had added the three Spanish versions (so that’s 18 tracks in all). Obviously I preferred the album tracks (Angeleyes in particular, but others too) as the singles are over-familiar. I don’t hate the singles, as it’s not their fault they’re over-heard, but I do sometimes have difficulty getting anything new out of them.
There are some tracks I don’t like the subject matter of (eg. Suzy-Hang-Around where Benny tries to justify bullying) but doesn’t mean I don’t otherwise like the songs.
One song I’ve never particularly liked is Super Trouper. I like the loneliness-on-tour subject, but the chorus and Super-per-per etc bits are a bit silly. Plus I don’t like the title as it’s a registered trademark.

Depends on context for me. I like Why Did It Have To Be Me in ABBA The Movie but it's not a song I'd seek out otherwise. I can appreciate Benny plinkity plonking away on Intermezzo no 1 when I see him in The Movie but the song itself has always left me cold. I can't truly say I hate any ABBA songs but a few leave me cold/baffled. Andante Andante I like...but I also find it rather drippy.
My Mama Said I like a lot but the lyrics let it down, they're rather cringe. That's true of a few songs. ..and titles. I might like Dum Dum Diddle and Bang a Boomerang but I, ahem, 'dislike' the stupid titles.

There are one or two ABBA songs that have aspects or features I don't go much on, although I like the songs otherwise. One is Super Trouper. I like the song mostly, especially Frida's lead vocal, particularly in the bridge. But how I wish they had rejected the 'Su-papa, Tru-papa' in the chorus. I'm sure they didn't mean it this way, but to me the effect is like they're having a laugh at the expense of their own song. I also would have liked Benny to have featured the acoustic piano more on ABBA tracks. But maybe that was regarded as a less commercial sound for the group in the mid to late 70s?

Richard, I agree. B&B's chanting within the chorus of ST is the reason why I dislike the song. Years ago I used to like it but the song has disappeared off the radar for me these days and why it was featured in the "Mamma Mia" sequel baffles me. In fact I don't understand why they had to reprise certain songs in the movie that had been featured already in the original. I,also, agree with Alan regarding the over exposure of ST at the time of release. YOMO is another that is particularly cringeworthy. RM and DYMK do not float my boat as does "I'm A Marionette" which I have never cared for.

^^ I’m a Marionette is definitely worth trying again. I love that instrumental break in the middle. You get the second verse and expect another big chorus, but instead, the vocals are cut completely dead and you get this sublime long instrumental break. Second only to Eagle’s closing instrumental, in my opinion.

I like Super Trouper but hate when people call it Super Trooper as if Abba are singing about a soldier. I remember at the time thinking it had a Christmasy feel to it. I have mixed feelings about Chiquitita. I recognise it was a great success for Abba but I much prefer Fernando.
