I would like to ask other members of the forum as to which solo album by Agnetha or Frida is their favourite or the most listened to. Mine is, "A" by Agnetha, released in 2013. When I first purchased a copy I instantly fell in love with it and played the disc over and over. Apart from "A", I , also own four of Agnetha's solo albums on CD format. These are "Wrap Your Arms Around Me" , "Eyes Of A Woman" , "I Stand Alone" and "My Colouring Book". I have the LP formats of the first three by Agnetha. Also, I have only one CD of Agnetha's solo songs in Swedish which I believe is a collection of songs earlier in her career. As for Frida's solo records, I own "Something's Going On" and "Shine" on LP format. I guess I am rather naughty has I haven't any of Frida's on CD format. When ABBA were about to stop working together in 1982, I read a rather interesting article in the "ABBA" magazine where apparently Frida had been discussing a possible collaboration with Sting but , alas , nothing transpired. That would have been interesting. Agnetha , also, expressed an interest to work with Barry Gibb but again nothing happened beyond a discussion. That too would have been exciting. I was delighted when Gary Barlow met Agnetha for the first time during the broadcasted documentary promoting her solo album "A". "I Should've Followed You Home" is one of my favourite tracks on the record. Their voices blend so well together. Gary managed to successfully coax Agnetha to perform with him on "Children In Need" which was great to watch. How he managed to pull that out of the hat is amazing. A performance to remember. "Take That" meet "ABBA" ( sort of ). I was disappointed that the single wasn't a commercial success. Never mind, "A" reached number six in the UK album charts and made a big impact across Europe. Gary has expressed his admiration of ABBA quite a few times. If only we would be fortunate to anticipate confirmation of a brand new ABBA album in 2020 for definite. Now, that would be something! With that , I will sign off for now.

My favourite Agnetha solo album is Wrap Your Arms Around Me. I love that it was bright and poppy, that it wasn't tear-sodden. Everything was in alignment: the songs, her looks, her energy. It also contains my favourite Agnetha song, Man.
My favourite Frida album is harder to pick, because they are all so very different to each other. There really isn't an album that I don't like. If pushed, it's a toss-up between Shine and Djupa Andetag. Again, it seemed to be that she was in very happy periods in her life. OK, I'll stick my neck out and plump for Shine. I loved her sound and image at this time and it was exciting to have a couple of Frida compositions at last. It also contains my favourite Frida song, Twist In The Dark.

I like all of their solo albums but I prefer the Swedish ones. My absolute Agnetha favourite is her 1975 self-penned masterpiece Elva Kvinnor I Ett Hus, closely followed by När En Vacker Tanke Blir En Sång (which she composed herself from start to end with only one exception too). As for Frida's records, I like Djupa Andetag most of all. I like a lot of her early Swedish stuff too but most of it was released only on singles. If I were to choose her No.2 album, it would probably be Something's Going On.

For Frida it would be Ensam. I adore that album. It must have been around 1980 that I first heard it, and at the time I’d only heard the original versions of The Most Beautiful Girl and Wouldn’t It Be Nice. To me they’re the “definitive” versions of those songs, and I’ll still compare Bowie’s Life On Mars unfavourably with Frida’s version. I also quite like Djupa Andetag. In terms of English albums it would be Something’s Going On.
For Agnetha, I like Elva Kvinnor I Ett Hus a lot. Out of the English albums, My Colouring Book as it’s quite personal to her - songs she grew up with. The three 80s albums and also A seem quite far removed from the real Agnetha. Aside from I Keep Them On The Floor Beside My Bed, even the songs she wrote or co-wrote herself are a bit frivolous. After the more personal nature of ABBA’s later songs, Agnetha’s solo offerings are mostly just too impersonal for me. I don’t dislike them though, I just prefer something with a bit more depth.

I have fond memories of when 'Wrap Your Arms Around Me' and 'Something's Going On' were released. The latter is my favourite Frida solo album. I like every song on it apart from 'The Way You Do'. 'Threnody' is close to my heart. 'Shine' has grown on me over the years. 'Twist in the Dark' is a highlight. For the longest time I wasn't keen on what I considered was the overblown 80's look and production. HOWEVER...I genuinely think the album itself was ahead of its time. People weren't ready for it. I remember buying the 12" single of 'Shine' and a friend at the time said she disliked it (she'd been a big fan of SGO and 'Here We'll Stay' was even 'our' song). Now, I can appreciate it much more and the video to the title track is wonderfully of its time and makes me nostalgic. As for 'Ensam', great album, love the cover. I'm probably in the minority but I'm not mad about 'Liv Pa Mars'. I'm not sure why; perhaps because I'm a big David Bowie fan? It isn't that it's a cover; after all, Agnetha's no stranger to a cover and 'My Colouring Book' is choc full of them. No, I think it may be the accent. It's just a tad too strong for my taste on that track. I know that sounds weird as I absolutely love the Swedish language and accent. I think it's just this particular song. I'm SO familiar with the original. I'm not 100% mad about 'Djupa Andetag', either. I mean, I like it and all that but I found it all rather samey and all that sort of earth and nature and stuff wore a bit thin. Not a fair comment really because of course we all know Frida's environmental concerns so it's very her. Frida looked fantastic, though! At her most beautiful, I loved everything about the cover and the photos of her from that time. Gone was the frizzy perms and dodgy outfits and we were presented with Frida as a classy style icon for the 90's. She looked bloody great. And more to the point, was in fine voice. I love the remix of Aven en Blomma.
Agnetha's solo albums were rather patchy. I like songs here and there but I rarely play the albums through. My bad. I liked 'A' and 'Bubble' in particular (it's her favourite and I believe in my heart the lyrics reflect a lot of who Agnetha is as a person, despite not being penned by her). I was horrified when she hooked up with Gary Barlow, though. I can't stand him. She sounds great on the track but I'm allergic to him, big time. Kudos to him for getting Agnetha back on stage but I'd rather it had been with someone else.
My all time favourite album is 'My Colouring Book'. It means so much to me, even if I rarely play it these days. It was released in 2004 and is the last time I felt happy. Yes, it's covers but Agnetha sang her heart out and it's a very personal album. It's melancholic but I'm an introvert anyway so it's right up my street. And I have no words to describe what 'If I Thought You'd Ever Change Your Mind' means to me. I loathe the Cilla Black version (but then I'm not what you'd call a fan of her dreadful foghorn voice). Agnetha made it her own somehow. Maybe the day will come when someone will cover 'The Winner Takes It All' and "make it their own" and I'll have to eat my words! 😆

Josef, I remember quite vividly even to this day purchasing vinyls of "Something's Going On" and "Wrap Your Arms Around Me" at a record discount store at very affordable prices. After I played them I wasn't disappointed as there were quite a few gems on both. What am I like ! Yesterday, when I sent this post I didn't reveal my favourite tracks within each album. Never mind, here they are,
From "Something's Going On" (vinyl copy) as I don't own the CD format, "To Turn The Stone", "Threnody" and "Here We'll Stay". From "Shine" (vinyl copy) as I don't own the CD format either, "Slowly" and "Come To Me I Am Woman". All these songs feature sublime vocals from Frida.
From "Wrap Your Arms Around Me" (vinyl and CD), "Can't Shake Loose", "Wrap Your Arms Around Me" and "Man" (Tony "Hometime" a favourite of mine too). From "Eyes Of A Woman" (vinyl and CD), "Eyes Of A Woman", "The Angels Cry" and "We Should Be Together". From "I Stand Alone" (vinyl and CD), "I Wasn't The One (Who Said Goodbye)", "I Stand Alone" and the very beautiful "If You Need Somebody Tonight". Agnetha in fine voice on all of these songs. On to "My Colouring Book" and my favourite is "If I'd Ever Thought You'd Change Your Mind" I just love Agnetha's trace of Nordic accent within this track. Finally "A" and my favourite songs include "When You Really Loved Someone","Perfume In The Breeze", "I Should've Followed You Home", "Past Forever" and "Dance Your Pain Away". This album is proof that Agnetha can still reduce you to tears! (My favourite album) Both Frida and Agnetha are and will always remain incredibly talented and gifted women. I honestly don't believe that anyone else could better Frida's interpretation of "Knowing Me Knowing You" or Agnetha's "The Winner Takes It All". No other artist could outshine Frida's or Agnetha's vocal craftswomanship. Oh gosh, is there such a word !

My favourite Agnetha or Frida solo album is undoubtedly Agnetha's "Elva kvinnor i ett hus" (it was also the first solo album that I owned). It is melodically strong, as well as having beautiful vocals and arrangements. The music for all the songs except "SOS" was composed by Agnetha and she also co-produced the album. I also like that the album has a theme. I recommend any ABBA fan who doesn't have this album to buy it - it was recently re-issued on CD as well as vinyl.
From the English-language albums, my favourite is between Agnetha's "Wrap Your Arms Around Me" and "I Stand Alone", probably the latter.
I confess that I tend to favour Agnetha's solo material over Frida's.

I too prefer Agnetha's solo albums over Frida's. I must admit I have only one compilation of Agnetha's solo songs in Swedish and I haven't any of Frida's at all on CD format. " A " is definitely my favourite from Agnetha's solo English-language albums. I think I have already mentioned this in an earlier post of mine.

I suppose my favourite Frida album is "Frida ensam", even though it comprises mainly covers. The new vinyl edition is excellent quality, much improved over the original. Before that Frida only really had one album, called "Frida", although there is another one which is counted as a compilation. You can get all of Frida's early work on the album "Frida 1967-1972", which is available as a download.

Thanks. I honestly, don't think I have a favourite Frida solo album. I do have SGO and S on vinyl. Also, I have Agnetha's solo albums, WYAAM, EOAW, and ISA on vinyl as well as CD. Maybe I will consider purchasing the Swedish solo albums by Frida and Agnetha in the future. There is no rush.

Agnetha - Wrap Your Arms Around Me Frida - Shine
I like all 5 of Agnetha's English solo albums I have no idea why 'Eyes Of A Woman' is not as liked as the others its a fabulous album and regarding Frida's solo albums 'Shine' is by far so much better than 'Something's Going On'.

Adam, I agree Agnetha's solo album " Eyes Of A Woman " is hugely underrated. There are so many good tracks featured. I'm very fond of EOAW, TAC and WSBT.

I agree. It is so moving and haunting. The song was written by Justin Hayward of The Moody Blues. He scored a big hit in 1978 with " Forever Autumn " ( such a lovely song which I still adore to this day ) and he was also, behind the album " War Of The Worlds ". When I bought myself a copy of Agnetha's solo album " Eyes Of A Woman " I was very surprised to discover that her album was produced by Eric Stewart from 10cc. He wrote a few songs for Agnetha as well as co-writing " I Won't Let You Go " along with Agnetha herself. Jeff Lynne from The Electric Light Orchestra penned " One Way Love ". I don't know why ABBA fans don't rate this album so highly. I think it is brilliant.

I like "Wrap your arms around me" by Agnetha the best, if I have to choose one. I especially like
・I wish tonight could last forever ・To love ・Man
I haven't check Frida's solo album yet, I like Frida songs such as
・I see red ・To turn the stone
・The sun will shine again
・Here we'll stay

Something's Going On is the Frida album IMO... Anyone considering getting a start in Frida's discography should start there.
But my personal favourite will always be Djupa andetag and Frida ensam from Lyngstad; there is a unique intimacy that they cannot necessarily bring (before you grab your pitchforks...) when singing in English, and if you allow them to do what they do naturally, you know, they will shine brightly. I find that when she sang in Swedish, she had a more controlled yet lively vocal delivery rather than just being frosty or whatever dismissive adjectives one could bring up. The earlier album is a personal kind, needs no introduction, and much blabber about Anders Glenmark's role in bringing Frida back from the spotlight for a while can be thoroughly explored on the internet; the latter is a mishmash of old hits familiar to others but attentive listeners will know they lyrically repurposed it into an album with recurring themes... Clever if I say so.
My favourite Fältskog album - at the moment, because what I type is what's on my mind right now - would have to be Elva kvinnor i ett hus and Eyes of a Woman. The earlier album I mentioned; I'm cool with that, but Eyes of a Woman sort of grew with me or something. It's not that bad (e.g. the songs themselves are catchy but the lyrics are hit or miss) but it's a nice gem.
