Did anyone else see 2 of the Couples dancing to 'Honey Honey', in last Night's 'Strictly Come Dancing', on BBC1?
I thought that they'd be dancing to ABBA's original. Or Sweet Dreams excellent 1974 Cover of it.
However, the Cover, that they danced to was awful and weak!
It does not even sound as strong as it did in the 1st 'Mamma Mia! Film.
Has anyone any idea where it came from?
Covers like that give ABBA Songs a bad reputation!

They never do dance to original versions on Strictly. They’re always versions prepared especially for the programme so they don’t have to pay royalties to anyone.

As I understand it, they have a live band and singers on that show. Heaven knows where they get the singers from, they're dreadful. X Factor rejects probably.
That version of Honey Honey was particularly abysmal.

I think you’re right, Josef.
Anyway, the emphasis is on the dancing, not on the music they dance to. I think it would detract from the dancing too much if the music and singing was too good.

Your right about the music being” live” , to put it politely it wasn’t that good..emmm Every week its Dave Arch and his orchestra, sometimes it isn’t to bad.. but as last night’s proved it’s hard enough to cover an ABBA song let alone sing it live..
Just as an aside, for. those who didn’t know.. the song was probably chosen for her as her character in the popular UK soap/ series Eastenders is called Honey..

Foreverfan, I am a huge fan of " Strictly " but I agree with you the cover version of " Honey Honey " was awful. Last year the show performed a medley of ABBA hits which was not brilliant either. However, Alan is right the key element of the show is the dancing and not the singing but it sort of tarnishes ABBA's reputation.
