I think Polar could have been a bit more adventurous as it's the basically the same single as last year. There could have been other songs which could have had a bit more exclusivity:- • Andante, Andante • Andante, Andante (Spanish) • The Way Old Friends Do (perhaps a different live recording) • Even Super Trouper (B-Side in Argentina), or Put On Your White Sombrero could've been great. But I still like the sound of it anyway.
Do you think that Happy New Year will be included in the Super Trouper singles boxset for next year or as another separate reissue?

The Rubber Ball Man -- As I understand it, 'Happy New Year' is to be re-Issued every Year, (December), on 'Limited Edition' 7 Inch Coloured Vinyl. It was on White Vinyl in 2018, Clear Vinyl in 2019, and 2020 could see it on Red, Blue, Purple, Gold, or Silver Vinyl. Or some other Colour. Polar // Universal have no desire to be 'Adventurous', as there will always be Fans willing to buy 'Happy New Year' Coloured Vinyl's, in order to keep their ABBA Collections up-to-date. The Record Company sees no reason to try very hard, when the 'Limited Editions' will sell anyhow...
I've no idea if 'Happy New Year' will be included in the Box Set of Singles from 'Super Trouper'. It was only a Single, Year's after that Album was released. First a Single, (Limited Countries), in 1999, I believe. The real Singles from 'Super Trouper' were released in 1980 and 1981 - 'The Winner Takes It All', 'Super Trouper', 'Lay All Your Love On Me' and 'On & On & On'. I should imagine that those 4 Singles will definitely be in the Box Set, in 2020. 'Happy New Year' is not so certain...

It would be wonderful if Universal would do this with 'Slipping Through My Fingers/Se Me Esta Escapando'
2020 marks the 40th Anniversary of the Super Trouper album and their Spanish album Gracias Por La Musica so I am expecting half speed masters of both of those albums
I do think that 'Happy New Year/Andante, Andante' will be included in the Super Trouper box set, so I think they will be these songs
The Winner Takes It All/Elaine Super Trouper/The Piper Lay All Your Love On Me/On And On And On Happy New Year/Andante, Andante
There are a few songs that Universal could release as singles each year
Slipping Through My Fingers/Like An Angel Passing Through My Room Put On Your White Sombrero/The Way Old Friends Do I Am The City/Just Like That or Just Like That/I Am The City I Let The Music Speak/Two For The Price Of One No Hay A Quien Culpar/Se Me Esta Escapando One Man, One Woman/Move On What About Livingstone/Sitting In The Palmtree Love Isn't Easy (But It Sure Is Hard Enough)/Me And Bobby And Bobby's Brother Another Town, Another Train/Disilluison Tiger/Arrival (Instrumental) My Love, My Life/Dum Dum Diddle When I Kissed The Teacher/Why Did It Have To Be Me I've Been Waiting For You/Hey, Hey Helen
I Still Have Faith In You/I Am The City Don't Shut Me Down/Just Like That
I think 'The Visitors' box set in 2021 will have the following songs as singles
When All Is Said And Done/Soldiers Head Over Heels/The Visitors One of Us/Should I Laugh Or Cry Slipping Through My Fingers/Like An Angel Passing Through My Room or Se Me Esta Escapando (bonus single and Slipping Through My Fingers was a single in Japan no actual B-Side)
No Hay A Quien Culpar/Se Me Esta Escapando (could be a bonus single during the year)
2022 - 40th Anniversary of 'The Singles: The First Ten Years'/9th album sessions
The Day Before You Came/Cassandra Under Attack/You Owe Me One
I Am The City/Just Like That (could be a bonus single during the year)
A half speed master of the 'Gracias Por La Musica' album would be fantastic as the 2014 Deluxe Edition basically cemented its status as a regular studio album and its long overdue a re-issue on Vinyl, I know that ABBA Oro was released on Vinyl in 2018 but no reason that whatsoever not to re-issue Gracias Por La Musica as well.

I'm almost tempted by this release. Almost. Seems slightly grabby, though.
I like your enthusiasm, Adam! That is quite a diverse list of potential singles. Hard to see Universal issuing singles in vinyl format unless there is a specific hook - like a movie tie-in or something.
My own hunch about the Super Trouper anniversary reissue is that the singles box will contain: The Winner Takes It All (blue vinyl); Super Trouper (pink vinyl); Lay All Your Love On Me (yellow vinyl if they use the UK sleeve, red vinyl if they use the European one). Given that Happy New Year wasn't an international single, it's hard to know how they'd treat it if they decide to include it. Andante, Andante as a B-side as it appeared in South America back in the day? Or Felicidad, like this year's release? What colour vinyl will they choose so as not to short-change those who bought the two recent "special edition" vinyls?
As for The Visitors, I hope they go with the Polar/Polydor single sleeves rather than the ugly UK ones. One Of Us/Should I Laugh Or Cry? on - what? - brown vinyl? Orange? Head Over Heels/The Visitors on blue or clear vinyl? If they include When All Is Said And Done, I reckon they'll go with the Australian B-side (Soldiers) and artwork (yellow sleeve featuring a photo from the WAISAD video - so I reckon it'd be a yellow vinyl single). The US version had Should I Laugh Or Cry? on the flip and the same sleeve as the Polar edition of One Of Us. Given how the Voulez-Vous box was treated, I'd say they'll almost certainly include The Day Before You Came (most likely pink vinyl) and Under Attack - probably on lilac/violet vinyl.
It would be nice to think they'd do some kind of reissue of The Singles. But how? Expanding the tracklist just replicates The Definitive Collection. And it's not as though they've reissued either Greatest Hits set. But we're quickly into 50th anniversary territory in 2023. Will they keep these fancy reissues going until 2025 to include Ring Ring, Waterloo and ABBA? How will they mark the 50th anniversary of Waterloo/the Eurovision win n 2024?

Happy New Year/Andante, Andante was released as single in Portugal and the single had a nice sleeve in the 2014 Singles box which also contained the Alternate Mix of Andante, Andante A CD re-release of The Singles: The First Ten Years would be lovely and just add the missing singles as well as Cassandra, You Owe Me One, I Am The City and Just Like That as bonus tracks its about time ABBA's music got some CD love again plus add lots of alternate photos of the cover session in the booklet and new liner notes. Its almost certain that Ring Ring, Waterloo & ABBA will get half speed masters really hope that Gracias Por La Musica gets a half speed master as 2020 marks its 40th Anniversary. When All Is Said And Done/Soldiers will very likely be included in 'The Visitors' box set and for the 2021 record store day they could do coloured vinyls of Hovas Vittne/Tivedshambo and No Hay A Quien Culpar/Se Me Esta Escapando, I actually hope they leave the coloured vinyl singles of Under Attack/ You Owe Me One & The Day Before You Came/Cassandra until 2022 so that they can have a proper 40th Anniversary.
Thank You For The Music/Our Last Summer was released as a single in the UK to promote the 1983 compilation album 'Thank You For The Music' that would also be nice on a coloured vinyl in 2023 and that 1983 compilation album has never had a CD release so that would be nice. If Universal Music really wanted to mark record store day in 2022 they could release a coloured vinyl of I Am The City/Just Like That but its unlikely. More ABBA Gold needs a Vinyl re-release purely for I Am The City and the fact that its almost impossible to find it anywhere on Vinyl.

Yes! That alternate mix of Andante, Andante would be a nice touch. Still hard to guess at the colour they'd choose for the vinyl. Turquoise or pale blue, to match the border of the sleeve?
If they were to expand The Singles as you suggest, I reckon they'd continue to torment us by withholding Just Like That!
As for RSD2022, I reckon that a 50th anniversary picture disc or coloured vinyl edition of People Need Love would be a reasonable likelihood.

Interesting. I didn't know an alternate mix of Andante, Andante had been released.

Interesting. I didn't know an alternate mix of Andante, Andante had been released. I think it was a purely accidental release. It emerged in the extensive box set of 40 vinyl singles that was released a few years ago. It was then released in an even greater accident a couple of years later... The lovely box of coloured vinyl singles for ABBA - The Album included the usual download code. But instead of just downloads of the 3 A-sides and 2 B-sides in the box, the code gave you ALL 80 tracks from the earlier box set. Every A-side and every B-side! !ncluding that alternative mix of Andante, Andante that accidentally appeared on the flip of Happy New Year. The set is still available from the ABBF.nl shop for a good price, if anyone wants to grab the glamorous vinyl and the accidental generosity of the enclosed download voucher.

^^ Out of interest, did the Voulez-Vous singles set just include a download code for the 14 tracks on the vinyls? I still haven’t got it, even though it’s now under £50 on Amazon. Even at that price I’m still not rushing to get it.
If Happy New Year/Andante Andante is included in next year’s anticipated Super Trouper singles set, it’s possible that alternate mix might appear again.

ABBA/Polar decided last year that 'Happy New Year/Felicidad' was the best coupling for this series of single releases, so I don't think we are likely to see any variation on this in the near future - as stated last year, the intention is to do something a little different each year, such as a new colour of vinyl.
I'm fine with that - you can look to buy an item if it appeals, or ignore it if you have no interest. It's a pity if someone wants it and can't find a copy, but that is the nature of 'limited releases' - as is the tendency of some folk to 'bulk-buy' if they get an opportunity, and then sell at an inflated price (which happens across all artists, and not just ABBA)...
