The vocalist is Alyona Yarushina. She's an independent musician from Russia. While she continues to work on her debut album, she records a new cover every week for her You Tube channel. I'll post her Abba covers in here
Update - Alyona moved to the USA last month. She spent 18 months there in 2011-2012 working as a gigging musician before returning to Moscow. She's been trying to get back there ever since. Now they have given her a special visa called "Alien With Extraordinary Ability" to work as a musician in the US.

Great voice and quite a respectable cover - the only thing I don't like is her phrasing on this song.

Alyona's new video
Alyona says that ABBA are huge in Russia and describes this song as "super famous" in her homeland. She says that this song can be heard in all public places all over Russia during their New Years holidays. So its a song that she has grown up with and has wanted to record for several years. She decided this was the perfect time to make it.

And New Year is the most important holiday in Russia, Christmas seems to be all but obliterated over there. So it makes perfect sense that ABBA has something to offer one of their most loyal markets on this occasion!

But not many people celebrate the occasion and not much happens. But New Year is massive. So its the perfect song for the fans. And for the people. |
