Take A Chance On Me...
can anyone show some clarity..
I always thought that TACOM.. did the following chart positions in the UK..10, 2, 1,1,1, 2, 3, 8, 15 19.
I have just got the Official Singles Charts of the 70s, and have also checked the same site online and it gives a different position for week 7, ...10, 2, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 8, 15, 19..( ironically better) .
For years I believed that Denis by Blondie held that spot and ABBA at 3 is correct.( some other chart books actually show this, and has been talked about somewhere before).
sorry if this sounds as little confusing, but hopefully those who know more than myself about UK charts can show some clarity, or is it that now that Official Singles chart has printed positions that has now become the official positions of TACOM.
Also any idea of why such a huge drop from 19 to out of the charts?
Sounds very minor, but us chart fiends like to know🙄

I think I remember Colin saying that the correct relevant chart position is 3. The official list has it wrong.

01)... From February 1969 on-wards, 'Record Retailer' began to compile the UK's first 'Official' Charts.
02)... Those Charts were published, each Week, in both 'Record Retailer' Magazine and 'Record Mirror.
03)... 'Record Retailer' eventually became 'Music Week'.
04)... The Official Charts Company, only looks at the 'Record Retailer', ('Music Week'), Charts, from
1969 on-wards. However, sometimes 'Record Retailer', ('Music Week'). made a mistake, when they
published the Weekly Chart.
05)... For example, in October 1969 the Rolling Stones, had the No.1 UK Album, with their: Hits Album:
'Through The Past, Darkly (Big Hits Vol.2)'. 'Record Retailer' mistakenly put it at No.2 and had the
latest Beatles Album - 'Abbey Road' - at No.1.
06)... 'Record Mirror' published the Chart correctly, with the Rolling Stones at No.1 and The Beatles
Album entering at No.2. However, as The UK Charts Company only use the Charts, as 'Record Retailer'
published them, they count the Rolling Stones Album as Peaking at No.2 and 'Abbey Road' gets 17 Weeks
at No.1, when it should be 16. So, the OCC cheat the Rolling Stones out of a 1969 No.1 Album.
07)... Regarding 'Take A Chance On Me' and Blondie's 'Denis', in March 1978... 'Music Week', (the old 'Record
Retailer'), made a mistake, when they published the W/E 18th March 1978 Singles Chart. They gave ABBA
a 2nd Week at No.2. 'Denis' was put at No.3. This was the wrong way round. ABBA had really fallen from
No.2 to No.3. Blondie had really risen from No.5 to No.2.
08)... 'Record Mirror' published the correct W/E 18th March 1978 Singles Chart. They had Blondie at No.2 and
ABBA were at No.3. However, as The Official Charts Company only use 'Music Week', for their 1970's Charts,
they have the mistake on their Site - ABBA at No.2 and Blondie at No.3.
09)... The correct Top 10 UK Chart Runs for both Singles were:
Take A Chance On Me -- 10-2-1-1-1-2-3-8
Denis -- 5-2-2-2-2-5-10
10)... Regarding the No.19 to 'Out Of The Top 50' fall, of 'Take A Chance On Me', in 1978...
I've been told that it did not really fall out of the Top 50. A mistake was made - for 2 Weeks.
It actually did this in the UK Top 50:
10-2-1-1-1-2-3-8-15-19-33-37
Also, even though the published UK Singles Chart was a Top 50, a Top 100 was actually compiled.
After leaving the Top 50, 'Take A Chance On Me' did this:
52-81
So it really had 14 Singles Chart Weeks - not 10.

Thank you Colin.. at least I was not going mad and had actually thought I’d read /seen the TACOM positions.
This must be really annoying for those who “know” have seen the true facts, and constantly having incorrect information thrust upon them, which now due to the book and web site, will now become the “truth” . I guess and it’s unlikely that a magazine showing the correct positions was to turn up.. would they still change their mind.
The fact that you are aware of those other two top 50 weeks, therefore there must be some proof, so why can’t it be ratified?
All very frustrating.....
