There is something far, far worse than I Am Just A Girl, and that’s Jag Är Blott En Man by Jarl Kulle, which some idiot saw fit to grace the deluxe edition of Ring Ring with in 2013. It sounds like he’s laughing his way through it. Give me ABBA’s version anyday.
And if that’s not enough, there’s Billy-G-Son’s version of I Saw It In The Mirror, along with another song by him that appears to bear no relation to ABBA whatsoever. And then something from Lill-Babs that’s equally as random (did these random tracks have backing vocals by ABBA or something? I can’t remember).
They really were having a laugh when they compiled that tracklisting, especially as Björn and Benny had apparently veto’d the inclusion of Åh, Vilka Tider.

I've never heard it, actually, but I've enjoyed Jarl Kulle's appearances in the odd Bergman film. He's especially good in Smiles Of A Summer Night (but then, everyone bar Björn Bjelfvenstam is good in that).

Just had a listen to it, and am going to have to disagree majorly with Alan: it completely smokes I Am Just A Girl.

Damn it, I thought that would get you to reveal the actual tracks! "I Am Just a Girl" and "She's My Kind of Girl", actually, but I won't let a person's poor opinion of them devastate me.

Now we know what should've gone on the Super Trouper album in place of The Winner Takes It All.

Extending the remit of this thread a bit, what may be the weaknesses of some ABBA songs/tracks, in your opinion, compared with other groups' work? Or is that a no-no for you? I know it's all personal taste and opinion in the end.
The main reasons I love ABBA are not the songs of Benny and Bjorn - some of which I like a lot, however - it's the joint vocals of Agnetha and Frida - "a one-off vocal phenomenon" as Christopher Patrick convincingly argues, as far as I'm concerned, in his book, ABBA: Let The Music Speak. The girls could have sung any commercially-appealing pop song (not written by Benny and Bjorn) and made it a success for ABBA, I think.
Regarding ABBA songs, for me it's mostly about the arrangements because I certainly don't find the songs themselves, generally, harmonically (the underlying chordal harmonies not vocal harmonies) and melodically superior to those of lots of other pop songwriters of the past few decades: Burt Bacharach, Carole King, Lennon/McCartney, Brian Wilson, and many others. Lyrics, I feel, are a different matter: Bjorn often wrote better lyrics than Lennon and McCartney, for example, imo.
Any views?

He listed some of my favourite songs but I'm not to worried, if we can't talk about which songs we like and don't like there won't be much to say sadly this forum doesn't have much activity. we need a break from Cancel Culture which is ruining this world.

I don’t think it was that. Edmund’s most recent posts were quite positive and it seemed like he could accept others’ views. Most likely it was a heat-of-the-moment decision that didn’t really have anything to do with anything expressed on this forum. I just hope he doesn’t regret it, or, if he did, he will soon re-register. Come back, Edmund.

Nearly all of Ring Ring album except Another Town, He is Your Brother and Ring Ring. But that was at the start of their career. From later in their career You owe me one. Maybe with a bit of work it could have been better. Think the 1982 releases were a bit rushed. Had they took some time out for 2 years they could have came back with a belter of an album. But not with Under Attack , JLT and You owe me one in their present forms. Cassandra ,The Day before you came and I am the city would be three for that album but album tracks not single material.

And then something from Lill-Babs that’s equally as random (did these random tracks have backing vocals by ABBA or something? I can’t remember). A Global Moderator that cant remember the facts, really? The Lil Babs track was written by B&B and all four ABBA members sing on the backing track. Billy G-son recorded I Saw It In The Mirror in 1971 and his arrangement is 1'000 times better than Bjorn & Bennys. His other song, from the same single 'There's A Little Man' is another B&B song, and as far as is known this was Agnetha's first appearance on a B&B song. Jag Är Blott En Man recorded by Jarl Kulle was from a movie soundtrack B&B contributed to, called 'Ture Sventon' another track they wrote. The reason these collectables were included on the Ring Ring deluxe was because there was space on the disc to investigate the origins of the songs on that album and there were no other ABBA songs to include....when B&B stubbornly decided Ah Vilka Tider wasn't up for being included. Wothless ABBA songs.....Disillusion is pretty lacklustre, fortunately Agnetha made it passable two years later on her 'Elva Kvinnor I Ett Hus' album. It then sounded like a finished track rather than a pretty crap demo. 'I Am Just A Girl' is an abomination and 'King Kong Song' is abysmal. 'What About Livingstone' is pretty average and lyrically tries to be too clever for its own good. How on earth B&B felt releasing the dire 'You Owe Me One' over 'Just Like That' (the completed sax version from May 1982) is beyond me.
