This Week - W/E 15th April UK Chart - 'ABBA Gold' is up from No.31 to No.22.
It is its 988th Week in the Top 100. Only 12 more Weeks and it becomes the
1st Album to achieve 1000 Top 100 Weeks.
Will it make it?
Unfortunately, a lot of UK 'Chart Fans', don't like 'Hits' Albums, being allowed
to Chart in the Top 100. They feel that they 'clutter' the Chart. So, they want
The Official Charts Company, to remove them from the Chart. They want them
to have a 'Greatest Hits' Chart of their own.
Every Week, I see those 'Chart Fans' demanding this. They want Albums,
such as 'ABBA Gold', banned from the Main UK Top 100. They don't like how
Streaming Rules, give such Albums, a lot of Streams, which allow them to
stay in the Top 100, for Months on end.
I'm talking about 'Single Artist' Greatest Hits/Best Of Albums. Multi Artist
'Hits' Albums, were banned from the UK Album Chart, way back in January 1989.
They were given their own Chart - the 'Compilations Chart'.
CD's and Downloads are only a tiny part of Album Sales, these Days. It is Streams,
that keep Albums in the Top 100.
So, many 'Chart Fans', want The OCC to 'ban' 'Hits' Albums, from the Top 100.
It has now reached the stage, where I worry that The OCC, will listen, to those
'Chart Fans', and remove all 'Hits' Albums, from the Main UK Album Chart.
Below, I show, how the UK Sales of 'ABBA Gold', and The Beatles '1' are broken down,
(into different Formats), in the Chart of W/E 26th March. As you can see, Streaming
was their main source of 'Sales':
No.30 - ABBA - 'Gold Greatest Hits'
2,380 - Overall Sales
2,139 - Streaming (89.87%)
241 - Pure - [171 CDs, 53 Downloads, 17 Vinyl]
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
No.40 - The Beatles - '1'
1,984 - Overall Sales
1,796 - Streaming (90.52%)
188 - Pure [101 Vinyl, 47 Downloads, 40 CDs]
