I thought it might be interesting to create a new thread about re-discovering certain ABBA songs that you haven't listened to for a very long time and on hearing conclude " that isn't a bad song ". " Why have I not listened to it more often ? " I have recently re-acquainted myself with " Nina Pretty Ballerina ", " Love Isn't Easy ", " Hey Hey Helen ", " My Mama Said ", " Lovelight " and " Dream World " and guess what ? They have really grown on me. WHY OH WHY WASN'T " DREAM WORLD " RELEASED INSTEAD OF " DOES YOUR MOTHER KNOW " ? I'LL NEVER UNDERSTAND. DW is so catchy and typically up-tempo ABBA far superior to DYMK ( sorry to fans of DYMK ). I would like to hear of your choices and views. Sorry, I completely forgot " Kisses Of Fire " was on the B-side and one of my favourites. The song should have been released as an A-side. KOF is a fantastic song with an exploding chorus. I love it ! I turned 60 in April and my memory has become a little foggy. Please bear with me if I omit certain facts.

I do think it's an interesting topic, Eddie. For me, it's My Mama Said. I've always thought that it was, musically at least (but not lyrically), one of ABBA's coolest-sounding songs. But I don't listen to earlier ABBA tracks all that much, so I keep forgetting how good I find My Mama Said whenever I do listen to it. To me, it sounds more 'modern/sophisticated', somehow, than some of their subsequent songs. Love the riff and guitars and overall feel. But this is from memory because I haven't heard in a while. I'll give it a listen.

Richard, " My Mama Said " is indeed a very " cool " sounding song. I read somewhere that ABBA greatly admired Stevie Wonder as you say the prominent riff just shows how influenced they were. I could say the same of " Hey Hey Helen " as that track also features a characteristic riff but overall I think this song leans towards " the glam rock era " of the seventies.

Have not always liked My Mamma Said..., the lyrics. However, the music is funky. And I have grown to appreciate it more. Can picture it playing in a 70s cop show in a club or pub. Could be interesting with new lyrics. One of the better songs from that album. Abba always surprise us even from early in their career. Hey Hey Helen another favourite from early on. Another song with that funky feel is Man in the middle. That has grown on me too over the years. Some songs are just theatre from start to finish...I am a Marionette, I let the Music Speak and The Day before you came.

Absolutely so, ABBA never fail to surprise us. I must admit that MITM is one of my least favourite songs on the album " ABBA ". I think DDD is not a bad song at all on listening and is growing on me. MMS has indeed a funkier feel while HHH is more rockier. Have you noticed that every ABBA song we listen is so different from the last. ABBA have such an impressive back catalogue. The new songs on " Voyage " will be the main topic of conversation from us all.
