I've not really followed the output of Benny and Bjorn over the years. Have been aware that they've occasionally written a song together for the likes of Steps, and have heard about Benny's orchestra but got no idea how many songs the two of them have written together in this period? Don't even know if Bjorn has been involved in the BA orchestra? Someone recently provided a link to rather lovely festive-type song they both wrote a few years ago, so I was just wondering how much they've actually done? Have they been working together on and off since the 80s? If so, presumably there are a lot more Ulvaeus/Andersson compositions than the 100 or so Abba songs they wrote back in the day? Any info gratefully received. Thanks. PS Apols if this is the wrong sub-forum - if so, mods please move!

They didn’t write songs for Steps. I think the people behind Steps tried to market it that way, but the reality was that Steps merely covered songs written years before for the Swedish act, Gemini.

Bjorn has contributed to Benny’s songs quite a bit through the years including Benny’s solo LPs in 80s and his band in noughties. I know Bjorn didn’t produce the Josefin album in 1992 as he said he was bored with it, and he didn’t compose any melodies either, but he wrote for Gemini, Josefin, Kristina musical, obviously some of Chess lyrics, Tim said Bjorn’s lyrics for ONIB were so good, as was Pity The Child.

So, it sounds like Bjorn and Benny might have written something like 30 to 50 songs together between Chess and Voyage? Surely, a good number of those will have been up there quality-wise with the top-tier Abba songs. Would love to hear, say, the best 10 re-recorded as Abba songs. Too much of a stretch to say it could be close in quality to Abba Gold?

Yes there are a handful of songs I’d have loved to hear Frida & Agnetha singing: I Am The Universe, Slowly, Have Mercy, Where The Whales Have Ceased To Sing, The Film I’d Like To See, Silence Of The Dawn (don’t think Bjorn wrote lyrics for this though.) 2nd Best To None, The Stars, Story Of A Heart and When The Wall Came Tumbling Down, obviously a few from Chess & Kristina too. I forgot Butterfly Wings! I could be here a while!
