Well, the Amazon UK 30th Anniversary CD is as bad looking in real life as expected. It's basically a numbered edition slip case (cardboard) with the 2004 gold sleeve CD inside. Another 11-quid I'll never get back I have to ask this. Why did you buy it? I rarely touch Gold with a barge pole but this one was especially off-putting. I’d like to see the black Gold artwork restored in the UK. Since 2004 we’ve had the gold version, with the back telling us it’s a CD (before the tracklisting), a legacy of its original 2004 release with the Gold DVD (which I think unfathomably didn’t include The Name of the Game?)

A did you know comment....
Gold is currently the 11 th best selling album in the UK, with approximately 140250 just 1000 behind Adele’s 30 and a top 10 place, Gold should do it this week, on average 4000 a week for Gold and 30 around the 1500...

For those that are interested.... Gold 30th Anniversary jumps 5 places to 6 in today’s UK album charts , a 2022 high, with sales of around 5750, ( not a lot really for a top 10 album , sign of the times). So far it’s spent 1065 weeks in the top 100 and 75 of those weeks in the top 10....

No, those sales aren't impressive. Recently it has been just inside or just outside the Top 10 - about 4,000 sales. So only extra 1700 sales with these repackages. Fans have spoken.

It’s not that unimpressive is it? These new editions have an extremely niche market and are limited edition (I’m assuming). As someone who has Voyage in nine different vinyl variants, even I’m not interested in these Gold releases. This is mostly because I see ABBA Gold as its own brand, separate from the rest of ABBA. It’s not 1972-82 or Voyage so it’s not on my radar. It presumably appeals to some, but I’d say not the core fanbase.
To jump five places to number six is therefore not bad.

Two of each plus the original VHS tapes. More ABBA Gold bought when the album was released due to I Am The City. Similarly the VHS tapes each bought when released. That was exciting, finally having all the videos instead of the old Music Show volumes that only had seven on each.
I didn’t own Gold on CD until much later. I bought the US edition when I was over there once. Not sure why. Then the 2010 CD/DVD version because it had the cartoon Money Money Money video on.
I got the third issue of More Gold (2008) when released. Not sure why, but I think they tried to say that I Am The City was at the wrong speed on previous releases and that they’d corrected it. I didn’t notice any difference. Unlike Gold itself, More Gold was deleted between revised issues. I think the third issue is the current one and it hasn’t been deleted again since.
So yes, the Gold project did have its uses for fans at one point.

Alan, with sales so low moving 11 to 6 on the album chart is not as impressive as it seems.
Gold sold about an extra 1,500 copies this week. This, to me, is not impressive and shows fans have had enough of re-packaging. The cash-in for the 30th Anniversary didn't materialise.
