Terry Hall of the Specials and Fun Boy Three has died after a short illness, aged 63.
Be it The Specials (in particular their social commentary on tracks like Ghost Town), Fun Boy Three (which included collaborations with Bananarama, effectively launching their career) or solo work, he made an undeniable contribution to music.
He even contributed to the success of American girl group the Go-Go’s (featuring Belinda Carlisle), as he co-wrote their first hit, “Our Lips Are Sealed”. His group the Fun Boy Three covered the song a couple of years later.
[Once again it’s a reminder of just how easily ABBA could have left it too late to reform. At 63, Terry Hall was nine years younger than any of ABBA. The Specials (or some of them at least) did get back together, but had they left it as long as ABBA it would have been too late].
