Apologies for the self-promotion, but my new play 'The Way Old Friends Do' is touring the UK from February, and I'm venturing into various fan groups to let people know it's happening. All the information you might need about the run is at thewayoldfriendsdo.com/with a trailer for the show here: Sorry if you've seen me plugging it elsewhere, but I'm hoping we're creating a show that will appeal to any ABBA fan - old or new! Many thanks.

I live not far from where that's being performed so I'm thinking I'd be mad not to go. I'm also a huge fan of Mark Gatiss (loved him as Glenn in Nighty Night).

I’m surprised that this hasn’t been talked about more than it has, perhaps its due to accessibility, that all said and I’m no reviewer, and probably won’t say the correct things, however I had the pleasure to see this show last night ( 12th) in London, on show until the 15th I believe. Very small intimate theatre, 200 seats and within touching of the cast. It was a delight from start to finish and very funny, in my opinion well worth the effort to go and see, forget Voyage, forget Mamma Mia, this is a different level, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, strong gay theme, but all done tastefully and interspersed with Abba( of course ). This forum is referenced more than once and as above funny in its portrayal. Wide range of audience, and well appreciated...
As said I’m no great reviewer but I think it was well worth it.....if you get the chance....go....and be open minded...

[...] This forum is referenced more than once and as above funny in its portrayal. [..] I wasn't expecting to read that! It's something I'd definitely like to see - it's got a great cast and director for starters. I hope it tours.

^^^ it really is a laugh out load moment, especially for those in the know or are part of this forum.... you just vision “ us”
I know it started in Birmingham, and has been in London for a month, guess 200 seats not hard to fill in London, but it should tour..

[...] This forum is referenced more than once and as above funny in its portrayal. [..] I don’t think it is this forum… a friend who’s seen it messaged me about this. He said that the reference to ABBAChat was as a Facebook group? So my guess is that it’s fictitious, made up for the play without realising there’s a forum of that name. I’d hazard a guess it’s really referring to ABBATalk, but by changing the name to something similar. All a coincidence. Edit. Apparently the writer of the play is a member of ABBATalk, so that all but confirms it. However, he’s also a member of this forum (hence the first post in this topic and three other posts) so perhaps combining the two in some way? Further edit: I’ve messaged Ian Hallard on Facebook about it. Not expecting a reply, but I had to try as I’m intrigued!

Ian’s replied. My original assumption was correct:
Hi Alan
Good to hear from you!
I actually wrote the play in 2019 which was before I was aware of your ABBAChat, so yes it isn't based on your forum (not sure if that's a good or a bad thing!) It is more loosely based on ABBATalk - only in as much as it's a Facebook group rather than a discussion forum. Chris from ABBATalk actually asked if I'd consider renaming the fictional one in the play ABBATalk, but I thought it would be better to make it clear it wasn't based on real life!
Best wishes Ian

^^^ Hometime.. Look at web site for specific dates, but the play is touring, taking in Guildford, Exeter, Brighton, Cheltenham, Oxford, Salford, Batn, and York..
So hopefully one is close enough, As regarding the Abbachat mention, it doesn’t really matter as so few of us anyhow, it just happened to strike a note with me and my friend at that moment.....
Seriously if anyone is close enough and you want a laugh worth seeing.....

I'll keep an eye out in case they decide to cross the Irish Sea.

I went to see the show in Brighton. It’s enjoyable, and full of ABBA references, some quite obscure. I think I noticed most of them!
