There was an interesting discussion, (well I found it so), on the ABBA The Music section of this forum, maybe a couple of years ago, of the idea of 'dated'. As well as pop, I also listen to a fair bit of classical music and it doesn't occur to me to describe Bach or Mozart or Beethoven as dated. But it's a term more applicable to pop, perhaps.
But to use the term, anyway, in a popular music context, Waterloo, to me, sounds like a 'dated' old rocker and 'Si' a timeless, classic ballad. But that's musical preferences for you!

Was Voyage the third best seller (after Ed Sheeran and Adele) for 2021? I can’t remember. If it was, that’s an amazing achievement and nothing can change that.

That's the thing I'm probably the least bit interested in regarding VOYAGE. The merchandise. I'm unlikely to purchase much when I go soon. My sister has already got me a souvenir programme thingy. I am not the type to wear an ABBA jacket or t shirt. Kudos to those that do though. Of course when younger I would've been keen to lap it all up- ABBA The Soap.. you name it, I wanted it ALL! But I'll be a happy chappy with a key ring and a coffee mug or summat. Photograph wise I'll pose outside the arena with my sister and perhaps one or two on my own and a couple before the show starts. The food sounds horrendous (I hate hotdogs with a passion) so we'll find somewhere decent to eat beforehand.
One thing I find slightly odd here is the lack of any pictures from forum members. Their prerogative I suppose but I wonder why? Not that there's many of us of course. How I resent the advent of Facebook, etc which has mostly taken over. It's not the same as a thriving fan forum such as abba4ever once was. It wasn't perfect but it sure was vibrant. Still, at least we have here. And yet no sign of Roxanne? I guess busy with other things.

One thing I find slightly odd here is the lack of any pictures from forum members. Their prerogative I suppose but I wonder why? …And yet no sign of Roxanne? I guess busy with other things. Anyone can post photos but can be difficult. I use mobile view for the forum and I haven’t worked out how to post photos from it, so when I do add photos I use TapaTalk. Can be a bit of a faff sometimes though. Photos are more for Facebook groups aren’t they? I’m personally not a fan of random photos being posted for the sake of it, but when they illustrate something that’s being discussed, I’m all for it. I can contact Roxanne whenever I need to (if there’s a forum problem) and she always gets back to me extremely quickly and sorts it! I genuinely think she started the forum out of the goodness of her heart for people like us to use. She presumably has to pay to keep it running, and that’s quite something considering she doesn’t use it herself (I know she was on it more in the early days). Roxanne made several attempts to contact Mike/Zeebee the other year. He was the previous moderator but suddenly disappeared. Roxanne heard nothing back from him so I can only conclude that he may have died. Anyone remember Carlo, the admin of the short-lived ABBA Forum? I lost contact with him as soon as that forum closed. (Just seen a post by Mike/Zeebee from 2019 where he responded to Edmund’s request to leave the forum. I didn’t realise Eddie went back that far! I’ve lost count of the number of profiles by now.)

I made a video for Don’t Shut Me Down, I’m quite proud of this one, enjoy, Happy New Year, or as we say on this site HNY !! That footage of Agnetha walking is from the 1999 The Winner Takes It All documentary isn’t it? Where she didn’t want to be filmed talking (her input was mainly reading out from the English version of her book, Som jag är / As I Am, while the footage of her walking was shown).

Yeh, I thought it fitted the narrative well. Had it all in my head for ages, just tried to get it produced, came together well.

I bought the new edition of Retropop today and noticed a full-page, full colour image of the ABBAtars in all their "Tron" glory. No text. No Logo. No obvious reason for the image. I wonder if ABBA might be teeing us up for something...? Has anyone seen anything similar elsewhere?

Oh Tony, you tease putting those thoughts onto our heads..lol
what could it mean, new tracks? New show update? New album ? Alas I think no, still hoping to be proved wrong though..lol A friend of mine in London, says there’s quite a few new posters around...... They may not have to actually say anything anymore as Images speak louder than words....

Not sure I’m reading much into that. It looks like a somewhat arrogant advert for the show. Arrogant as in they expect everyone reading the magazine to see that photo and know exactly what it’s supposed to be. I could be wrong but we’ll see.

Just promotion for the show. There is promotion for Don’t Shut Me Down in the USA because of the Grammy nominations for the song (not for the album). A big billboard.

There is promotion for Don’t Shut Me Down in the USA because of the Grammy nominations for the song (not for the album). A big billboard. I saw that in one of the socials yesterday. When I tried to find it again later after seeing HOMETIME’s post, there was no sign of it. The tron outfits is a very powerful image. Obviously we first saw it on day one (2 Sept 2021) so it’s been closely associated with both the album and show. It probably works better as it is now (all next to each other) than the original four squares. The other ABBAtar images are OK but I don’t think any of them had the same impact. Probably because the tron ones were the first we saw and appear in the album artwork. Also they could never have worn those outfits originally, whereas some of the other costumes are more reminiscent of what they actually wore (or could have worn). It is still quite a big deal when you think about it. ABBA as they might have looked had they emerged now. They now no longer need an old 70s image.

Anyone think there is any chance of a full ABBAtars video for Don't Shut Me Down at the Grammys?!!

^No idea but I'd love it if Don't Shut Me Down had a official video. Talk about a missed opportunity! It's absolutely crying out for a PROPER, story-telling video. How can they not realise that? That needs rectifying.
Grammy-wise, if there's any justice in the world, ABBA will win one. It's not strictly necessary of course but it would be the icing on the cake. Let's face it, ABBA deserve all the awards. No doubt about it.

I saw a copy of Prince Harry's book in Asda just now (It seems to be discounted already!). They don't sell books but had those books amongst the pasta!
I was actually surprised not to see Voyage on sale in Supermarkets. A special case could have been made for ABBA.

It was certainly sold in Asda upon release, as I bought a copy on 5th November 2021

I stand corrected. It was just Supermarkets near me that didn't sell Voyage.

Interesting stats ...it makes you wonder how “ big” DSMD would be if it had a video.........
Your thoughts... as Johnny says NDAI is bottom of both tables... why ?
Personally , I feel it’s more “ABBA “ than the likes of BB , LT even OTF..... it’s upbeat, great rhythm, then why is it bottom ? ...even some of the critics raved about it when it first came out...........

I’m surprised that No Doubt About It is less popular than Little Things. I’m not that keen on NDAI myself but it’s not that bad. Frida gives an excellent performance on it and as someone said on here once, it sounds like the kind of vocal performance she would have given in the 1980s.

I am surprised why No Doubt About It is the least popular track and have no idea why.
As Foreverfan says it does seem more typically ABBA than some of the others.
The Airplay Single not only didn't help to revive Voyage but didn't help with its own streaming. It's a mystery.

It's not a mystery to me cause I dislike the song. It reminds me of a cheerleader song (the chorus) which I don't like. I don't like the way the voices blend in the chorus. I don't like Frida's vocals; they are all over the place. It reminds me of shine which I dislike as well.

It [No Doubt About It] reminds me of a cheerleader song (the chorus) which I don't like. I’m really glad you’ve said that as it has crossed my mind more than once and I wondered if it was just me. The unnecessary use of the word “hey” had me thinking of cheerleaders. Having said that, it’s a compliment (or is it complement?) to Frida that she can sound like that at age 75, being as cheerleaders are usually teenagers. Similarly I’ve never understood the point of cheerleaders. We don’t really have them in the UK.

Something has to be at the bottom so I guess No Doubt About It fills that spot. It doesn't mean it's a bad song or that it's universally disliked. I never thought about the cheerleader thing before, maybe that has some truth. I like the song. I like the driving energy and Frida sounds amazing, really strident and powerful. It does remind me of Shine (not the actual song, just that period). I think the song IS a grower- I'm still becoming familiar with it.
Do my eyes deceive me? Did someone actual say GGG wasn't that great or summat? That's GOT to be a joke?! The song is phenomenal in every way, even after that awesome intro.

Remember Frida's snapping at the media regarding how it mostly focused on her and Agnetha's looks? "We're not just tits and bottoms!"
Well, that's the main point of cheerleaders. Eye candy. Full stop.

Remember Frida's snapping at the media regarding how it mostly focused on her and Agnetha's looks? "We're not just tits and bottoms!" Well, that's the main point of cheerleaders. Eye candy. Full stop. That might have been why I hadn’t dare mention it myself before someone else did. I had wondered if I was alone in thinking that but also that it could be taken as an insult to ABBA or Frida especially. Frida delivers the best performances on Voyage but, aside from I Still Have Faith In You, her leads are a bit meh. Agnetha has the weaker voice but gets the better songs. It works out though, as Frida dominates the joint leads (apart from Just A Notion, because they’re old vocals). It’s a pity that Bumble Bee is overshadowed by the climate change issue. Such issues are always presented to the viewer/listener/reader as though they personally can change everything, when in reality the big decisions are up to governments which, either due to economic reasons or their own electoral chances, they won’t make. Not sure how putting the pressure on the individual does anyone’s mental health much good. Sorry Björn.
