Also, if Ludvig had "issues" with the quality of the recordings from the '77 tour, I wonder how they'd rescue Get On The Carousel - they have pristine studio versions of the other songs. I don’t get how there can be issues with them. A lot of what we hear in The Movie is overdubs done in the studio later on (it’s quite shocking to hear fan recordings of how they actually sounded on that tour). If the overdubs were properly recorded and placed on top of the live recordings, how can there be issues? They sound fine in the film. That's what I thought, too, Alan . But given that he has been close to the master recordings, I guess we have to trust his professional assessment. It made me wonder if some of the lead vocal passages had been re-recorded to match the performances on screen. As someone said, it seems that only parts of songs were reworked, so I imagine that work was done after the preliminary editing of the film. You're right: the fan recordings from the tour weren't always a pleasant experience. Like you say, they'd probably opt for the studio version of TYFTM. And I'd personally prefer the polish of pristine, studio-recorded vocals, so the tapes from The Album would be a great source. It's how they'd mesh that quality with the (most likely) looser vocal performance of Get On The Carousel that interests me . The album has backing vocals by ABBA, and the live set has the tour vocalists on BVs. Would that jar? Would GOTC stick out like a sore thumb? Naturally, the narration could be completely redone. I wonder if they'd be tempted to use the 'Doris Day' version of TYFTM in the main part of the musical and save the familiar version for a reprise to close the thing? If they were to make such an exciting setlist change, I imagine that Hole In Your Soul would be put on ice for a while, given that its melody derives from Get On The Carousel. And that would be fine by me.

There’s allegedly a recording of one of the Albert Hall concerts, but if overdubs done in the studio aren’t complete, then that’s not an option either. There’s apparently no live footage other than what’s in The Movie as anything left over was discarded (or not even filmed in the first place).
ABBA weren’t the best live act so not sure why anyone is surprised at me being shocked at the fan recordings. OK, so they aren’t great quality and therefore don’t give an indication of how they really sounded, but we’ve been so used to hearing live recordings with extensive overdubs that it’s hard to give a balanced opinion.
ABBA certainly weren’t alone in overdubbing live recordings though. Most acts do it. These days it’s a bit different though as playing live constitutes little more than singing along to the studio recording. In ABBA’s day that wasn’t acceptable.

Grammy's 2023,
Abba did not pick up any Awards last night, from the four nominations they had with 'Voyage'
suppose just be being nominated is an achievement, and Voyage Album has received some publicly The Album re enters iTunes American and Canadian Charts after a long absence, straight inside the Top 20 for both Charts And Dancing Queen Currently number 40 in USA Singles.

Alas no big surprise regarding the Grammys.. I guess what gets me is that I understand regarding today’s music and artists, even though ABBA are still up there, is the fact that the Grammys and even more so The Brits have never really honoured them, a small tribute at the Brits years ago doesn’t really cut it.. surely Abba deserve some recognition, even a “ Legacy “ award would acknowledge all they have done, but nothing is a scandal really....
Again, the gains they have got for Voyage in the US will fizzle out almost immediately, as always love to be proved wrong but realistically those gains will instantly disappear...
I read recently, that MMM is gaining a lot of plays on some platform, probably Tik Tok ... but gains are quite big......
Ironic since not in the show......

They deserve recognition for their career but not for voyage cause it simply isn't good enough and can't compete with the other nominees

Henry - Well, I suppose that depends on your taste in music?! Not sure how anything can be compared really when it's all a matter of taste at the end of the day. With the wide variety of styles on Voyage, difficult to compare it to anything else nominated!

Ulf Andersson has died at the age of 82. He was well known for playing the saxophone on I Do I Do I Do I Do I Do.

I guess an award might be nice but personally ABBA has had many awards - gold and platinum discs. I am not sure they need an ornament from the Great and the Good of the Music Industry. I think "scandal" is over-stating it somewhat 😀 ABBA's fans still have faith in them! There will be no bounce for Voyage from its Grammy nominations. Itunes ranking mean so little these days when people stream and not download and ABBA fans buy a physical product rather than download. Itune sales are tiny.

Having seen some of the clips from The Grammy Awards, in hindsight, I'm glad ABBA didn't win!! 😁

To wonder is to indicate that it matters.

ABBA weren’t the best live act so not sure why anyone is surprised at me being shocked at the fan recordings. That's the exact reason I'm surprised - bearing in mind that ABBA were not the best live act I was not shocked at the fan recordings but on the contrary, quite pleasantly surprised - especially after hearing some recordings from the 1979 tour, where Agnetha clearly had her bad days, I thought they sounded very good in 1977.

Seeing how he handled release of the ABBA Live at Wembley double CD I wouldn't be so sure that we can trust him... It still baffles me why out of the six concerts he chose the one that had an issue with a microphone recording drums. And the mix is quite awful.

^^^^ there’s been quite a few recently, some prime time; Guessing it’s just the usual promotions, dead time of year for most shows, but from what I can see Voyage is doing well, out of curiosity I looked for £21 tickets yesterday and had to go very late into 2023, saw some in January 2024....otherwise your looking at a good £100 plus....
I also guess the promo is to do with the up coming 1 year anniversary, albeit a little early..... will there be that set change?

Yes on ITV. I guess they still need to get more people in.
ForeverFan, I have never seen £21 tickets. They are a bit on the pricy side.
I wouldn't be surprised if there was a slight set list change around the time of the anniversary in May.

^^^ There are Johnny, very few of course and a long way ahead; a wet Wednesday in January 2024... block K row N... truthfully. Otherwise anytime this spring, we’ll over £100. I’d go again, but over £100 is pushing it for me second time round... I know I’m of a older generation where £100 was a lot of money, these days it’s a meal out; so slightly difficult to get my head around ....

Yes, I was looking at going again this year but was a bit disappointed with the ticket prices. I paid £44.20 per ticket in the pre-sale on 5 September 2021, and that was inclusive of all the fees they add on. Basic ticket price was £39. I was hoping for something similar this time but couldn’t find anything and it put me off a bit.
I do want to see it again as seeing it just once isn’t really enough, but as it stands now it’s the same show and it’s not as if it’s really them. I know of people that have seen it six or seven times or more (as people that follow acts on tour around the country do) but that wouldn’t be me. I want to see it again but not at any price.

100 quid and over for a ticket to ABBA VOYAGE is scandalous. And not even a champagne booth for that price? They can get stuffed. I'll probably go again at some point after I see it in April but no way would I pay those prices. Add on transport, food, possible overnight stay and it'd probably come to the price of a holiday abroad. Sod that. Fair play to those that go multiple times but they must have more money than sense.

Imagine how much time and money is involved for us who are not living in the UK. Parking costs at the airport in home country, plane tickets, transport costs from the airport to the hotel and back, usually two overnight stays at a hotel. It's certainly not for everybody, but then again you only live once.

Members of the fan club were offered tickets for the closed anniversary show. I got seated tickets for £53 , including ticketmaster fee.

I guess it doesn't work that way.

I suppose it depended when you were offered tickets. I understand they offer in order of your length of service in the fan club.

Joseph - you are right about the prices. £100 plus for a ticket seems way too much. I live near London so can get the train to the venue and back home that night. Just imagine those who live elsewhere in the UK or abroad. It would be a very expensive night out. I looked at May and there are seated tickets for £53 though most are £82. Dancefloor tickets are more expensive £100 plus. Tagaytay - You're right, logically you would think dancefloor would be cheaper but they're not. Prices for Mamma Mia the Party even more expensive. Start at £99 and up to £200 plus per ticket. When Bjorn was quizzed about this he did say you get a four course meal...well that's ok then! I could have a city break somewhere in Europe for that mammamiatheparty.co.uk/tickets/

Provided you're healthy and mobile enough, pop concerts are generally much more fun (and the atmosphere's a lot better) when you can stand up. Personally, I wouldn't go to see Voyage unless I could get a dance floor ticket.

From the ABBA socials today: On this day 50 years ago, ABBA performed ‘Ring Ring (Bara du slog en signal)’ at Melodifestivalen, then known as Melodifestival, the Swedish entry competition for Eurovision Song Contest. Under the name "Benny Andersson, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Björn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Fältskog", the foursome came third place. Unfortunately, the footage has been lost: the tape has been erased by SVT. Fun fact: Frida sewed both outfits, for herself and Agnetha, who was in the very last weeks of her pregnancy with Linda.

I generally prefer Ring Ring to Waterloo - I think it's a song that deserves a little more love than it sometimes gets. There was a contemporary cover of the song by an Irish band. Their name escapes me right now - but it charted well in Ireland, I think.
