The vocals really are fab - and the arrangement feels a little more organic than the demo too. Hope the CD is available widely and promptly!

Just went to the Voyage site: the single is a UK-only release. Fans from EU or beyond not catered for. This is the kind of sh1te that undermines goodwill.

The arrangement reminds me of some of the Scandinavian Eurovision entries from the early 80s, such as Chips' "Day After Day" for Sweden in 1982, that culminated in victory for Norway in 1985 with Bobbysocks' "Let It Swing". Of course, these entries were inspired by ABBA, notably by "Waterloo".

I hadn't spotted that similarity, but you're right (and I LOVE Day After Day). I think people can finally make sense of the comments suggesting that the track had shades of WDIHTBM and Waterloo in it. I think there's going to be some interesting diversity of sound on this album.

I've been avoiding listening to the original demo since I knew JAN would be on the album but now I've heard a snippet of the new version, I've given in to temptation. I think the sort of 'swing' vibe was originally there but there was a Rock "Does Your Mother Know" type thing going on very forward in the track, which I think is now absent or further back in the mix (as far as I can tell). It now seems to have a softer sound, which I prefer.

The internet browser directs you to an ordering page according to you location - I was redirected to the German site, which works for the whole EU.

It didn't do that for me, Michal . I just got this... The site has been VERY inconsistent for me: I was able to order the album CD box version but not the first two singles. Ended up buying the singles from the Museum shop. I was sent this link to a Dutch store - just in case other non-UK fans have similar issues (but brace yourselves for the eye-watering postage costs!) platenzaak.nl/products/abba-just-a-notion-cd-single

Thanks so much, Michal - it works! I had already ordered from that Dutch site, but hopefully other fans can benefit from your link. In the meantime, I got an email from the ABBA HQ, with a preorder link. That works too. Most confusing!

I'm glad now that's it official for JAN and good that its on CD as well, only hope that its widely available and more than a few 1000 pressings. I'm also eagerly awaiting to hear on the radio, ( always sounds better ),I'm sure UK Radio 2 will , and probably record of the week....
As An aside, and I've taken on board others comments , Adele , has sold in two days around 70,000 a huge amount by today's standards, so no popularity lost there, and a sure fire number 1 . From a purely personal point, I really cant see the appeal, its not as if you'd put it on to cheer yourself up!! That said, appears she can do no wrong and Album will be massive.
Interesting that ABBA has Voyage between the two biggest acts of today , guess not the best of timings, but hey... Its going to be an Ed, Abba Adele showdown...3 biggest sellers of 2021.... Please just one week at number 1 will make us happy....lol...
Does anyone know latest advance orders, its gone quite quiet on that front... must be a lot more than the previous 80,000 cited...

How is it even possible we're talking about new singles and a new album from ABBA? Just a few years ago, never in our wildest, craziest dreams, right?
We need to remind ourselves just how flipping amazing this is! This was only recently considered a dream. We were quite resigned to, and had even become comfortable with, the idea that we would never again hear new music with Agnetha and Frida's voices together on one new song, let alone an album with 10 of them!
Really, folks, this album, these singles - all of this!! - is COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY INSANE!!

Do we think they’re new vocals then? They’re certainly clearer - on the demo they’re much more buried in the mix. I liked what I heard though. And I like the single artwork.
The snippet on YouTube appears to be longer than the one on TikTok?

Maybe it is an intention and they want to challenge the biggest selling artists of today. ABBA had those 80000 pre-ordered during the first three days, so not bad either. My hope is it would go this way: Ed No.1 for 1 week, then ABBA takes over for 1 or 2 weeks, then Adele ... for how long??? - she seems to be playing it safe :-)

The snippet on YouTube appears to be longer than the one on TikTok? Definitely new vocals: some of the notes are different lengths than the demo, some of the stresses and emphases are a little different. The harmony seems different too. Play the new clip and the old one side by side. The new version is as fresh as paint.

Is it just me, or has Frida's voice gone lower than a tone? I don't know - I'm no vocal expert - but in this snippet she's very subdued in the mix for whatever reason. I think Agnetha sounds great! (As I think Frida does in ISHFIY, irrespective of her lower timbre.)

It’s not the same part of the song that appears in ABBA Undeleted though. The “I just can’t explain” bit isn’t in that. The vocals sound so good that I really want to believe they’re all new - it wouldn’t make sense to try and sound younger on one song by using old vocals when the other nine tracks have new ones.
I want to hear the full 1978 demo now!

ABBA were almost as well known for their frequent use of "aha" or "ahas" (even a few "ahahaa"'s in Angel Eyes) as they were for their iconic profile/front-on configurations of the girls' faces in their promo videos.
I wonder if a few more aha's will feature in one or more of the new songs. I don't include here the ah ha ha's in JAN, which are different and clearly influenced by Barry Gibb's signature vocal style back in 1978.
Which brings me back to ABBA's use of "aha".
KM,KY - ahaaaaa!
Aha, aha, ahaaaa... You paint your world and use all colours - ahaaa, ahaaaaaa...
V-V - aha!
It seems ABBA stopped aha-ing completely after 1979. (Am I forgetting any post 1979 aha's?) I'm guessing it was a conscious decision by Bjorn to stop using them. Maybe he'd become aware of ABBA getting ridiculed for their too-frequent use?

'You owe me one' includes both aha and mmm-hmm! Bjorn said fairly recently that it was pointed out to him how many times the lyrics include aha, and that he hadn't realised it before!

(As I think Frida does in ISHFIY, irrespective of her lower timbre.) When Bjorn spoke about it recently, he said that Agnetha's had dropped about a tone and Frida's slightly less than a tone. Frida's low notes on ISHFIY are impressively low - very strong and present. As for the vocal mix of JAN, it's hard to tell. Agnetha's high timbre sounds clear and strong. It could be that, this time around, JAN is not a twin vocal/third voice recording, but a lead by Agnetha, so that Frida's presence in the chorus has more of a backing vocal feel? I guess we'll have to check it out properly on Friday.

That makes sense - a 30- second snippet can only present a partial picture. And maybe it is more of an Agnetha lead. I was thinking back to their unison vocals in I Do, I Do..., for example, and Frida harmonising in 3rds with Agnetha in Chiquitita, where their voices sound more equally balanced - and even the chorus of DSMD.

Apparently there will just be a lyric video for this, not a proper one.

^^^ If that's the case, it goes to my way of thinking and what I said on a previous thread, that they don't want any of us to see the ABBAtars before the show.. Which is understandable but frustrating at the same time......another Lyric video isn't great.....
This also makes me think that if we get Little Things, at Christmas which is probable.. will we actually get a glimpse of the ABBAtars, again doubtful as did they do it in the 5 week stint of creating the show... I somehow doubt it....
Do videos matter these days ?

Yes, yes, yes! There are a few things that I could nitpick about the ABBA Voyage era, but basically the idea that we are listening to new ABBA in 2021 is wonderful!

However I think it's the original vocals with a new backing track and mixed so that they're more prominent on this new recording. I agree about the single artwork. I'm curious how well the single will do in the charts.

I'm kinda bummed the single isn't available to purchase in the US. I hadn't planned on buying the singles, just the album (on multiple formats), but I got impulsive and bought the ISHFIY and DSMD singles. Would have liked to add JAN to the collection. Oh well. I'm intrigued by the cover art though, and the little bit of the costumes that we see. (Sorry I do a lot of sewing and recreational work, so these things always fascinate me. xD )

I had actually made a video compilation on that subject a while ago. Sadly it's no longer on YouTube so I can't easily share it, but they also used Aha in Honey Honey, and Hey Hey Helen, and Money Money, Money technically has a long Ahaa as well.

I have just heard a snippet of JAN and I must say I am impressed. I was never very keen on the demo back in 1978 but the 2021 re-working of the track is a vast improvement and will have me dancing when I hear the whole song. ABBA certainly have picked up from where they left back in 1982. The band never disappoint.
