Ranked #2 in my (controversial) ABBA Top 40 list from the other thread. đ
A beautiful song, vastly underrated and not especially well known outside the ABBAsphere.
Sadly, no tv performance of it even though many an album track had been given a whirl on the telly.
A question (and correct me if Iâm wrong). But it appears that in the chorus, Frida goes high and Agnetha goes low.
Is that right? Are the any other examples of Frida taking the high harmony?
Another question: did ABBA themselves rate the song? Did they discuss it?
Your GSYMLS feedback pleaseâŠ

My favorite song from the first two albums. I wasn't aware of that harmony arrangement you mention - I must listen more closely next time. I'm pretty sure Frida sings the higher harmony in Fernando. I don't recall the group talking about the song, but this is an excerpt from Carl Magnus Palm's Recording Sessions book:

Another thing Iâve wondered about this song: after the second line of lyrics, about 20 seconds in, thereâs an âoooh, hooâ.
Is that Frida signing that? Or Bjorn? It ought to be Frida, but the voice sounds more masculine.
It always jumps out at me, that đ

Are the any other examples of Frida taking the high harmony? There are at least two I'm aware of: I've Been Waiting For You ("and finally it seems my lonely days are through") and Move On (the last verse). And now when I think about it, I think the unplugged version of Thank You For The Music from Nöjesmaskinen features high harmonies by Frida as well. These rare moments are absolutely magical in my opinion. As for GSYMLS, I agree it's an underrated song and Frida does a fantastic job on the lead vocals.

I guess you already know that there is a live version of this song from the 1975 tour.

I still believe Benny's lyrics were a coded ode to his sexual relationship with Bjorn. He probably ceased writing lyrics at this stage out of concern that their 'secret' might be revealed. After all, they each had significant others at the time.

beautiful song one of my favourites from the Waterloo album. With four months to go before the Waterloo singles box set is announced. Can anybody in here work out what singles they can use. I can only think of Waterloo & Ring Ring?

The third single would be the Swedish versions of Waterloo and Honey Honey, as this was released as a single by Polar in Sweden. Ring Ring would not be included as that was a UK-only single featuring the remix. The set should be: Waterloo/Watch Out Waterloo/Honey Honey (Swedish versions) Honey Honey/King Kong Song

A nice unseen outtake from the Waterloo photo session would top the set off very nicely.

A nice unseen outtake from the Waterloo photo session would top the set off very nicely. There should be some - as with The Visitors, the Waterloo album used an alternate take for the 2001 (and later deluxe) CD issues. Itâs not much of an alternate though as probably taken a split second apart from the original album cover shot. There are differences if you look closely though.
