I love this song and video as well... and don't forget the auburn hair and sexy beard!! This was a big hit in Australia back in the day and remains a radio staple. Although a little on the naive side, it's still an unabashedly fantastic pop song to this day!! Imagine if one of the 2024 tracks were as upbeat and frothy as this? I think I'd explode!!!

You can't argue with the message in the song and although I'm not a fan of the title (ditto Dum Dum Diddle) I guess that was very much of its time and other acts probably had far sillier ones. The song is uplifting and joyous and ABBA themselves look SO young and fresh and innocent. I actually find it rather touching to see them this way.

Ok, there's a silly title (too Eurovision ie Lulu) and some silly lyrics

Oh bang, a boom-a-boomerang
But the overall message: give love, and get love in return is spot on.
It does sound so joyous and that video is fantastic. Yes, Benny looks at his best. The snippet of that fun video does appear disproportionately in the ISHFIY video, given it wasn't a hit.
Getting into geeky mode, it could have been a hit Internationally but that Eurovision title imo held it back.
But great song - and video.

I know it's not to everyone's taste, but Matt Pop did an excellent extended version .....you tube of course...
Great track, one you can't help but sing a long to..In a parallel world, could've been a big hit.....
Apart from the usual candidates. What other tracks are desperately under valued....
It always amazes me outside of " Gold" and a handful of other tracks , so much is unheard, obviously it's not just ABBA here, most artists are the same....

I hate to say this but those bloody awful Mamma Mia films did raise the profile of hitherto "unknown" ABBA songs Slipping Through My Fingers and My Love, My Life.

Have to agree with the majority of your thoughts above, I know it goes off topic, but as so few of us , it's natural conversation...
Easy to say, so many missed singles, it was a sign of the times I guess, it was only later after they finished that artists released so many tracks from an albums.Michael Jackson , 6 from Thriller ?
Abba had a few gaps that could've been filled, especially between TACOM and SNC and IHAD and TWTIA, even between LAYLOM and OOU and HOH and TDBYC...
Ok probably wishful thinking and perhaps towards the end there lack of material or motivation...
But between those first two, far to long.. what could've filled ?

This "could have been singles" has been mentioned many times...but why not again!
Gaps
Between TACOM and SNC. Clearly Eagle. It would not have been #1. 3rd single from The Album and tough competition from Boney M, Bee Gees, Olivia Newton John/John Travolta and the Smurfs! Pretty sure though it would have been Top 5.
Between IHAD and TWTIA. Not sure anything. Voulez Vous satuated with singles and TWTIA was first single from ST - released months before that album release.
Final 18 months (original career). LAYLOM released a few months earlier and on 7". WAISAD released as first single from The Visitors in Autumn 1981. Not sure you could have done anything about 1982. Rather than a single after HOH, WAISAD as a single before OOU.Maybe The Visitors instead of HOH.

Both girls' voices were at the height of their powers, and they manage to belt out even the highest notes with relative ease, or so it sounds. Their near-screaming vocals here equal those we hear in that amazing, voice-breaking, final chorus of Dancing Queen.
"Dummy dum dums" and the title itself aside, it has some of ABBA's most profound lyrics, mapping out how we can all find true happiness and good karma. It could pass as a Buddhist anthem. If everybody lived by this song's lyrics, it'd be a perfect world.

I think I'm going to take a break from here, personally it's not going anywhere and feel a lot of negativity. It's my issue and I won't be cancelling or nothing like that, just disappearing for a bit. I feel I've got nothing left to say for a while

You're not alone feeling this way, Graham. I've often thought that I haven't got anything to say or that I'm repeating myself, and that it would be better if I just come on here occasionally. But doing that still depends on responding to those who continue to post. So it's a bit of a dilemma!

I’m surprised that ‘Gonna Sing you my Love Song’ isn’t universally better known. I think it’s one of the greatest ABBA songs of all time and ranks #2 in my all-time ABBA top 40. B-a-B though is just an incredible infectious pop song. I could easily imagine it being a huge hit single but of course there was that brief post-Eurovision down turn in chart success (UK anyway) so maybe that made B&B nervous about it’s potential prospects? |

Bang a Boomerang was not released in Scandinavia or as I can see anywhere apart from France - where SOS was the B side.
A Swedish version by a duo Svenne and Lotta entered the Swedish hests for their Euurovision entry contest. It came 3rd and wasva big hit around Scandinsvia.
The ABBA version wasn't a single in Australia although the video was part of an ABBS promotion.

That’s Me, One Man One Woman, Thank You For The Music, On and On and On, Happy New Year and When All Is Said And Done weren’t Scandinavian single A-sides either, but, like Bang-A-Boomerang, had a video. As Johnny mentions, it was a promotion for the ABBA album. The four videos were produced at the same time and sent out to record companies (this had also been done for Waterloo and Ring Ring, which were filmed on the same day and - I think - after Waterloo had been a hit). If you notice, the four videos all have their titles stamped onto the first few seconds. This was because the songs were all new. It was only by chance that three of them eventually became international singles (Mamma Mia only because Australia requested it as such - hard to believe now but Polar were reluctant to release it). Not sure what the strategy was - it seemed they wanted to promote ABBA as an albums act at the time. Curiously So Long wasn’t amongst the four videos - not sure if they were produced after the song had flopped in most markets, in which case there was no requirement for a video. |

I do remember an Australian tv interview around that time (1975) where the band members mentioned that filming these particular videos meant they potentially had more international reach without the need for travelling/touring, which of course, essentially became their mantra thereafter. Australia's Molly Meldrum, who helmed the music show 'Countdown', was a major supporter of "Mamma Mia" and lobbied for it to be released as a single in Australia, much to the amusement of the band and the record company. |

Indeed, I should’ve mentioned Angeleyes, as it’s a brilliant song (and badly treated in some respects, not least due to its lack of a promo clip). I actually think ABBA owed it to themselves to have done at least the bare minimum with Angeleyes; a simple video of just the band singing/playing along would’ve done just fine. |

"Angeleyes" really needs to be included in the 'Voyage' show at some point. It's one of their best tracks; was actually a single in the UK; is perfectly paced for such an event and was popularised in recent times via that (godawful) TikTok clip. I'm certain it would go over well with audiences, even if it was their first time hearing it. The producers of the show could really come up with a spectacular clip if they put their minds to it. |
