Today, Friday 27th October), the British Phonographic Industry gave ABBA 2 more Sales Awards. (The B.P.I.)
ABBA - Super Trouper - Polydor - Platinum - Single - 27.10.2023 - 14.11.2004
(600,000 UK Sales since November 2004)
ABBA - Honey Honey - Polar - Silver - Single - 27.10.2023 - 16.11.2004
(200,000 UK Sales since November 2004)
In February 'Slipping Through My Fingers' got a Silver Award, for 200,000 UK Sales since November 2004. So, it and 'Honey Honey', are the only UK ABBA Songs, to get UK Sales Awards, when they were never UK Singles.

Colin, I posted this in the thread you started 😃 abbachat.com/thread/1081/abba-more-sales-awards-singlesYep, Honey Honey only 2nd non-single song. And of course there's that BPI rule that a somg can't have same award for both physical. So as Super Trouper already had physical silver and gold it wasn't eligible for a gold award - until it went platinum (which it never got for a physical sales)

Wow. Super Trouper is quite the stealthy hit. That's an impressive figure for a track that's not an automatic go-to for radio presenters. Added to the figures for its original chart run - something like 780K maybe? - that's quite the monster! I wonder if/when we'll see it in the Voyage setlist...

Super Trouper is not one of my favourites but should work well in the Voyage show given the subject matter.
I would get rid off the two cartoons and another song and add TACOM and MMM too.

Looking forward to seeing the show in its current incarnation on 2 December.
As for Super Trouper, I think it could stand to be accelerated by a few BPM for the show. And ideally the glockenspiel motif would be played on piano or guitar. But that's just me.

^ Be sure to give a review. It will be interesting to read if what you imagined beforehand matches the reality.
For me there were at least a couple of songs I am not a huge fan of that I really enjoyed - and vice versa.

Looking forward to seeing the show in its current incarnation on 2 December. Ironic that you should use the word "incarnation" to describe this particular show, since it's a digital representation of the group, not them actually "in the flesh". I am really, really looking forward to your review, Tony. I can hardly wait to read it and hope it's as long as a Tolstoy novel, with every detail about how it was, and how you felt.

Here are some more UK Sales Stats for the 'Super Trouper' Single. They are from a Chart 'Expert' at a UK Chart Site. After the Single got a UK Platinum Award on Friday 27th October.
ABBA - Super Trouper (PLATINUM) (600,000)
820,000 in the 1980's + 600,000 after 1994 = 1,420,000 Sales in Total.
It is only beaten by 'Dancing Queen', as regards their UK Singles Sales.
In 3rd place is 'Knowing Me, Knowing You', which has around 1,300,000 UK Sales.

Thanks for giving those numbers regarding Super Trouper (the song), Colin. It must be surprising to some, including me, how popular an ABBA song in the UK - second to Dancing Queen in sales - Super Trouper was back in the day. It's less so nowadays, I think; but if it wasn't for the chorus, which I've gone off of and which I don't think is one of ABBA's best, the song would still be high up among my favourites.

Can anyone answer ?
We all know that Wikipedia can be a bit let's say not accurate at times .. so perhaps it needs up dating? So when I go into Uk Million Selling Singles ... why isn't ST and KMKY not listed, there is a section of combined sales and still no mention.... is it just as simple it hasn't been updated or something more complicated?
If as above both singles have passed the Million ark, Abba would have 3 million sellers, with I guess a couple more close behind?

Thanks Johnny, it's an age thing on my part I'm sure... I think I've only just got my head around streaming lol....just bring back the 7/12 inch vinyl and we would all know where we stand.. I'm sure the likes of Ed and Adele would have sold no where near as many as stated if pure sales..... But that's times past and hard to compare, imagine in 1976 and streaming ..ho hum.....

It would be nice if the various powers-that-be could do definitive sales tables (globally, and per country) for ABBA's singles and albums. The anniversary events would provide great context.
