As a kind of mirror image of Agatha's 'Quintessential ABBA song' thread, I'd be interested in people's views on the least ABBA-like track in their 100-plus catalogue. (Maybe take Intermezzo No.1 out of the equation...) What's the song that a non-ABBA fan would be extremely surprised to learn is ABBA? Is there, in fact, any such thing? I guess the vocals (even Björn's) are always a bit of a giveaway, so feel free to take those out of the equation too.

I'm A Marionette I Let The Music Speak Lovers and I guess quite many of the early recordings, when they haven't found their style yet - My Mama Said, Watch Out, Man In The Middle... By the way, I guess that most non-ABBA fans would be extremely surprised to find out that an ABBA song can be sung by a man

1970's - Watch Out, Suzy Hang Around - one very heavy (for ABBA) and the other very 60's
1980's - The Visitors - non-rhyming lyrics, uptempo chorus without multi-layered harmonies (although the latter remark fits Summer Night City too, which is very ABBA)
2020's - Ode to Freedom - Epic? Yes. Beautiful? Yes. Cinematic? Yes. ABBA-like? No. To my ears it fits side 4 of Chess in style.

I can’t really think of an unAbba-y song unless you include the really early stuff like King Kong song! In the later years 2 songs that really stick out for me though are The Day Before You Came and Like an Angel Passing Through My Room. After years of producing very slick, highly produced songs layered with multiple vocal harmonies these songs stand out because of their comparative simplicity. They’re very unlike other Abba songs of the same era. I think TDBYC is a masterpiece in narrative and atmosphere, and LaAPTMR is quite simply exquisite. Disillusion is another song with very simple vocals, not a harmony in sight! I love Agnetha’s singing on this.
