I'm sure this has been done before but is it possible to pull together an ABBA compilation that would pass muster as a decent/credible rock (or rock-ish) album? E.g.:
Side 1

I'm a Marionette

Other possibilities include Watch Out and Rock Me. And is Eagle's proggy-ness enough to make it enough of a rock track? Can't think of a genuine 'rock ballad', though.

Very happy to accommodate 'Eagle' - my second-favourite ABBA track, after all. Probably open Side 2 with it. Loathe to leave out 'Lovelight', though, as it boasts one of their meatiest guitar riffs. Not a fan of 'Watch Out', hence my motivation to omit it. I too have got a soft spot for 'Rock Me' (and indeed RnRB), so happy to give it the nod ahead of HIYB. So my Side 2 might now look like:
Eagle
Rock Me
On and On and On
Lovelight
Why Did It Have To Be Me
So Long
Keeping Intermezzo on the reserves' bench, because I wouldn't want prog-overload.

I'm thinking that Soldiers might qualify? And both One Man, One Woman and Our Last Summer as rock ballads?

Soldiers is a good shout, although I'm marginally more inclined towards OLS due, not least, to that blissful guitar scrape in the final verse. Not forgetting the very decent (and, by ABBA standards, lengthy) guitar solo just before it, right in the heart of the song (as opposed to Soldiers where the main guitar 'fireworks' are reserved for the last knockings). |

I probably just need a slightly harder edge somewhere, anywhere. It may even be down to something as silly as the guitar tone.
