Inspired by the Should Have Been a Hit thread I have come up with this...One Hit Wonders
New York to LA - Patsy Gallant Canadian singer who reached #6 in the UK in 1977.
I love the Nightlife - Alicia Bridges US #5. UK #32 1978. For over 40 years I thought Alicia was black - in the Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor Disco Diva mould.
Uptown Top Ranking - Althea and Donna UK #1 1978. This Jamaican duo never had another hit.
Substitute - Clout South African girl band. Peaked at #2 in 1978. Only one or two very minor hits after. This song covered by Gloria Gaynor. That flopped so they released its B side I Will Survive
Pop Muzik - M Uk artist Robin Scott reached #2 in the UK and #1 in the US in 1979. Only 1 minor UK top 40 hit afterwards.
Going forward a few decades to 2011 and like Althea and Donna, Gotye shares the distinction of UK #1 and no other Top 75 hit Somebody That I used to Know - Gotye
Baccara's Yes Sir I Can Boogie not included. Their follow up Sorry I'm a Lady was UK Top 10 hit.

Great selection there Johnny. I would like to add "Get Used To It" by Roger Voudouris and "Born To Be Alive" by Patrick Hernandez.

Great choices...almost as good as mine 🤣 Actually Driver's Seat not a UK Top 40 hit so maybe a contender for Should Have Been a Hit. The other two were Top 10 so big One Hit Wonder hits.
Back in the day, all these selections would have made a great CD "Now...that's what I call One Hit Wonders"

'Because the Night' - absolutely top-drawer! Ditto 'Pop Muzik'. Genius track.
Apols for over-egging 'Driver's Seat'. Only got to number 42, apparently. Travesty! Still, rounding down, that's Top 40 in my book!
There's actually a whole class of technical OHWs that spent just one week at number 40 or 39 before vanishing again. Will have a think/rummage.

It's actually Men Without Hats - so Canadian rather than Aussie! In the UK, they had one other song that just scraped the Top 100 (the excellent 'I Got the Message') but that was very much, as they say, that. Here's quite a good one - a band that only ever had one week in the UK Top 40...and at number 40, to boot. Decent song, though. (Actually, they became better known a few years later for their English version of Falco's mighty 'Der Kommissar'; it went Top 5 in the States but STILL didn't get above 47 over here.)
