OK, so they finally got round to serving up 'Little Things', which was (for most of us, I think) a tad underwhelming. But are there any other songs in the catalogue which, with seasonal lyrics dropped in to replace the existing ones, plus perhaps the addition of a few bells (and possibly whistles), might have passed muster as a decent Christmas song? On the ST album, in particular, I think there may be a potential Christmas classic or two lurking somewhere in plain sight. Maybe the title track, balancing out 'Happy New Year' at the start of Side 2 and (of course) the neo-'Auld Lang Syne' vibe of 'The Way Old Friends Do' that closes out the album? Maybe even 'The Piper'? Not sure. What does everyone think?

It's hard to re-imagine songs that are engrained into us by years of repeat listening, but the more uptempo version of LAAPTMR with different lyrics and added bells and whistles may have worked, as would STMF. From earlier songs, possibly TYFTM 🎄

I know it's been mentioned before, perhaps even by myself.... Personally I feel it's pretty good, A Christmas version of Arrival was done by Sarah Brightman... a few years ago now.. but has all the correct vibes... I'm useless at posting from you tube if some one wants to....

Speaking as someone who's barely mastered the art of cut and paste, I think you should reward yourself with a small dry sherry.

It's an interesting concept. Given how often that 1950s feel seems to be a feature of festive hits, I think Just A Notion could be lyrically adapted quite effectively.
Or change the title line of I Have A Dream to My Christmas Dream and, without changing any other lyrics in it, you'd still meet the brief. It has that warm positivity that could make it a carol-singer staple. The twinkly electric piano on the live version shows how the sitar thingy could be nicely replaced.

Waterloo (similar to Wizards classic.) or Take A Chance On Me, which rather bouncy like Shaky’s, Super Trouper has the Christmas chimes throughout it, always thought the video was rather Christmassy as a kid. Don’t Shut me Down with different lyrics. Depends what they would go for, seems anything could be a classic if it hits the zeitgeist. I’m growing to Like Ed’s and Elton’s Merry Christmas this year. Funny, I remember reading something a few years ago regarding ABBA with Agnetha’s emotive voice: the writer said that no female took up that mantle after ABBA, like Kim Wilde or Allison Moyet. They quoted George Michael as Agnetha’s successor. I could definitely hear Agnetha singing Last Christmas, I feel an ABBA version would be stunning….now, I wonder if any YouTube channel will AI it???

I really like the concept, though, of her wanting to be as close to him as his fiddle. And the rhyming of smiling and violin is of course legendary...
