So, are there any songs that you invariably gravitate to at this festive time of year, but aren't Christmas songs as such? Here are a couple of mine:

I think there a number of songs very much associated with Christmas, that have that bright festive character, but that are really 'winter festivities' songs - and they don't mention Christmas! Frosty the Snowman, Winter Wonderland, Sleigh Ride - even Jingle Bells. Another non-Christmas Christmas song, and one of my favourites - but in a sadder vein this time - is Mike Batt's 'A Winter's Tale' sung by David Essex. I find these lyrics so poignant:
The nights are colder now Maybe I should close the door And anyway the snow has covered all your footsteps And I can follow you no more
This Joni Mitchell song does mention Christmas - at the start and reprised at the end - and it serves as the backdrop to the end of a relationship. It's just Joni Mitchell playing the piano and singing. Gets to me every time:

^Like that E17 song another with a festive video but not actually Christmas is The Power of Love by Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
Also, Johnny Mathis' When a Child is Born - the UK Christmas #1 in 1976. It's a general song about the birth of a child and nor about little baby Jesus or anything Chrismassy.
