Seeing this song languishing at a less than impressive number 67 in the Fan Club's recent poll of ABBA tracks, I'm in sufficiently high dudgeon to try to redress the balance a bit by going public with my undying adoration of this crash-bang-wallop classic. Heresy, I know, but - far from seeing it as a watery re-tread of 'Waterloo' - I actually significantly prefer it. I think that's because it goes for the jugular just that little bit more, careering through its three and a bit minutes with almost reckless abandon. One of my favourite album-closers by anyone, anywhere, anytime, it sits at number 5 in my personal all-time ABBA list, since you ask, and I simply never, ever tire of it. Oh and the performance on Ein Kessel Buntes is my favourite ABBA clip, bar none.
I know I'm in a vanishingly small minority. But many are called, while few are chosen. Does ANYONE agree with me? Even slightly?

Another fan of the song here. One of my favourites from that period. And Agnetha's and Frida's dance routines are brilliant

You make a good case for So Long, Garry. Mind you, for me, you're on pretty solid ground comparing it favourably against Waterloo because, apart from being glad, for obvious reasons, that the latter won the ESC, it's not a big favourite of mine and I'd much rather listen to So Long.

‘So Long’ is ranked as #20 in my ‘Top 40’ list on the namesake thread.
Thus, it makes the cut on my ‘double album’ (if such a thing existed).
The song is an absolute stomper, unashamed, unabashed; ABBA letting loose. It’s catchy, it’s loud and it makes no apology.
Visually, it’s well represented in the tv studio; Made in Sweden being the finest example, and Frida of course has a specific little dance for the chorus. On another performance, Agnetha collides into Frida on the outro dance which is kinda cute in its own way.

The comparisons to Waterloo never made much sense to me - apart from both being upbeat they're really not that similar.
That aside, it's a consistently enjoyable listen and I always feel a little happier for having listened to it. Hard to say how I'd rank it against ABBA's full back catalogue as there are so many great songs to choose from though.
