Have there been any ABBA songs that you basically couldn't abide (for whatever reason) but have learned to co-exist peaceably with - or maybe even love - down the years? Fernando and I Do x5 for me. I used to find them pretty much unlistenable back in the day but can tolerate them now. (That's not to say there aren't still one or two tracks I wouldn't give houseroom to, but that's not for this thread.)

I Can Be That Woman took me forever to get into, but I got there. ABBA doing country just didn't do it for me. Ode to Freedom is still an issue - as I've mentioned on other threads it's a beautiful, majestic, dramatic song - it's just not ABBA. It sounds like side 4 of the original Chess album, which I like, but don't play to death like the ABBA output.

I used to hate Slipping Through My Fingers but appreciate it much more now.

I have also had a difficult time getting to enjoy I Can Be That Woman and Ode To Freedom, particularly the former - but by concentrating on the girls' harmonies, I've got there. From the 20th Century catalogue, I appreciate both When All Is Said And Done and Why Did It Have To Be Me much more these days - they are both 'go to' songs for me now whereas I would skip over them back in the day.

I think I Do x5, My Mama Said, and Happy New Year are the ones that I was a lot less keen on for a long time, but now quite like. I think I have also made peace with Thank You For The Music. They were all instant skips for me back in the day. My Mama Said has come further in my affections than all the others.
But some things never change. If I suddenly start championing I Am Just A Girl or Put On Your White Sombrero, you should see it as a cry for help.

I love My Mama Said with it's jazzy funk sound and brilliant baseline. It's my favourite by far from the Waterloo album.

As for me, well...Hell wouldn't just have to freeze over - the ambient temperature down there would need to nudge close to zero degrees Kelvin before I start bigging up Hasta Mañana.

Slightly obscure but on another thread I wrote that I wasn’t too keen on Tropical Loveland but then I saw the unusual tv performance of Agnetha playing the piano part and I really like it now.

I Saw It In The Mirror definitely. There were times it was the only song in the whole ABBA catalogue I skipped. I don't anymore, even though it's still not a favourite.
My Love, My Life - I started to appreciate it only after I heard Monsieur, Monsieur and Benny's piano version - the simple arrangements suit the song better in my opinion and highlight the beautiful melody, which suffer from the over-produced version from Arrival.
