Alternate song titles that never were - but maybe should have been.
It's often been said that some songs (not just Abba's) have silly lyrics and they detract from the song itself. I think some of the problem is that some of them have silly titles.
For example - if 'I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do' was released as 'Love Me Or Leave Me' would it have been better received ? BTW if you delete the sax start and end it sounds so much better ! I also love the 'leave it or take it' vocals that were removed - for yet more of that sax. B&B clearly thought you can't have enough sax but I don't agree ! JLT is also better sans sax I think.
Another that comes to mind is 'Dum Dum Diddle' I love that song and can ignore the silly title but perhaps it would be treated more kindly if was called 'To Be Your Fiddle". That takes the focus off the DDD line.
Those two songs came instantly to mind but there could be others that irritate some people.

Maybe they should have limited 'I Do x5' to 'I Do x1'. 'I Do' is punchier and less slightly naff, if you see what I mean.
Personally, I never especially liked the whole 'gimme' thing in GGG and would have much preferred 'give me'. If the song had simply been called 'Give Me a Man After Midnight', I wouldn't have complained - although I do quite like a bracket in a song title.
I reckon the title 'Dum Dum Diddle' would be improved by simply trimming it to 'Dum Diddle'. Then there's 'Bang-A-Boomerang' (which just sounds like a strange piece of advice...); this might have been better as something like 'The Boomerang Song'. There are a few others, but that's quite enough for now.
Great idea for a thread, btw.

I’d add Super Trouper to that. It is, afterall, a brand name and a registered trademark. “Spotlight” wouldn’t quite have the same impact though. Madonna had a song called that (it wasn’t very good - I think it was an unused track from the True Blue sessions).

Ooh, this is an interesting topic!
'Me and Bobby and Bobby's Brother' is far too clunky and long-winded. Something like 'My Happiest Days' would have been much nicer.

Nothing wrong with I do ido ido ido ido with saxophone what is wrong with you You like it? Good for you. But there's nothing wrong with those who don't. For me it's not a favourite either. A question of personal taste and preferences, nothing more. If you have nothing better to say than "what's wrong with you", stay silent. It adds nothing to the discussion.
