The thread title says it all. The video for One Night In Bangkok has been reissued in 4K. Looking very warm and sharp. Chess was released 40 years ago yesterday - but no vinyl reissue of the album?! I got a copy from Discogs a few months ago (cheap as chips) and it sounds great, but it deserves an update like the CD/DVD reissue from a few years back. This album is far too good, far too special to be neglected. The other videos need to be tarted up too. Show some respect, guys.
One Night In Bangkok holds up really well. That intro is fantastic, as is the dryly electronic rhythm track which makes only minimal use of cymbals (how very Tretow). And Anders Glenmark's vocals on the chorus are gorgous. The closeness of the harmonies. The warm vocal tone. Yum.

I remember that prior to the release of Chess, Benny said that an initial 3 Album Box release is planned. I dreamt about the box for weeks! :-) This Anniversary could have been a great chance to finally release an extended remastered Version in a 3 vinyl box
But it seems this Anniversary is even on a much much lower scale than ABBAs Anniversary...

We should watch out for possible radio shows or podcasts by Tim Rice. He likes to play demos once in a while, such as in his 2020 podcast series, allowing unique glimpses into the demo stage of the album.
It's a great one that hasn't lost much of its appeal to me. Björn has said that with Kristina fran Duvemala, he insisted it being book-based after the expierience with Chess, but I think, it's worthwhile they tried out a both contemporary and symbolic subject with Chess. It makes for a late Cold War document today which I find gives it extra appeal.

Fun fact: Chess is not the only musical around a, well, special sport, if one defines it as a sport, by Tim Rice.
In 1986, Tim Rice wrote "Cricket". It was his last cooperation with Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Also, there seems to have been a kind of rivalry between Tim and Andrew Lloyd Webber using Chess and The Phantom of the Opera. ALW wrote "Phantom" with the role of Christine Daaé also in hindsight of pushing the career of his wife, Sarah Brightman.
Tim Rice at the same time had a relation with Elaine Paige. The role of Florence was supposed to give Elaine Paige her Broadway debut.
While ALW and Sarah Brightman suceeded, TR was not able to bring Elaine to Broadway
Elaine Paige suceeded with her Broadway Debut then with Sunset Boulevard in 1996, again working with ALW...

If this is an official release, it would be a very strange one...

Agreed. Especially as there is no vinyl version available. There doesn't seem to be a CD version either. Anybody wanting a copy would have to get it second hand. Odd.
