Now Yearbook 1977 has recently been released and surprisingly no ABBA on the tracklisting. Shocking to omit both " Knowing Me Knowing You " and " The Name Of The Game " from the list. A relief ABBA do appear on the later years

Not shocking if ABBA or their representatives have vetoed it. I’m not sure what veto rights they would have but if they do, then I applaud the decision. If people want these tracks they can stream them, or they’re on Gold. They don’t need to be on the umpteen-thousandth compilation.
On the subject, who buys these things? If you want to hear those songs you can stream them anywhere. I sometimes look through the tracklistings of them and I’ve usually got half the songs in my collection already. If I haven’t, there will be a good reason (usually that I’m not keen on the songs). If I want to listen to something I haven’t got, there’s YouTube.
ABBA weren’t on the 1974 one either, I’m assuming for the same reasons. If they were on some of the others, it must be because they were released before ABBA vetoed them.
I think the Now compilations are now controlled by Universal, through their EMI label, but that in itself wouldn’t secure ABBA’s inclusion on them.

Maybe not shocking... but curious, given the prominent placements on the Yearbooks for the early 80s. I wonder what changed? It's not as though the Now series is without its own prestige.

ABBA were featured prominently on the compilations Now Yearbook 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982. Actually two songs by ABBA from 1979 onwards. Tony, I'm intrigued too as to why this has changed. Is it connected to the release of " ABBA The Singles, The First Fifty Years ? Maybe.

Hard to know. When Waterloo didn't appear on 1974, I thought it might have been because there were interesting plans connected to the 50th anniversary (talk about misplaced optimism!). Maybe you're on to something: maybe they don't want other compilations eating into sales/streams of Singles 50.

Yes, I think that is the case, Tony. I still feel both KMKY and TNOTG should have been included on " Now Yearbook 1977 " as ABBA were very prominent throughout the seventies and onwards although losing their musical impact towards 1982. Both songs were such huge hits worldwide. With regards to " Waterloo ". That was a historically iconic victory for ABBA at Eurovision in 1974 I too thought it was very strange to omit it. I guess " you can't have your cake and eat it ".
