This is fabulous news - although I am not a great fan of the crowd funding idea after the debacle of the Photo Book. Still worth keeping an eye on. www.carlmagnuspalm.com/blogs/abba-blog/revised-updated-and-expanded-edition-of-abba-the-complete-recording-sessions-in-the-worksRevised, updated and expanded edition of ABBA - The Complete Recording Sessions in the works Published December 16, 2014 I'm delighted to announce the forthcoming publication of an updated edition of my very first ABBA book, ABBA - The Complete Recording Sessions. Originally published in 1994, this revised version will incorporate all the new information that has come to light since the book was first issued. It will also feature hitherto unpublished or long-forgotten facts and stories that I've unearthed during my ongoing research on ABBA and their music. Even more exciting: Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson - and Polar Music International - have authorised me to listen to much more unreleased music than was possible in the analogue days of the early Nineties. When Björn, Benny, Michael Tretow and I spent a day listening to tapes back in 1993, none of the multi-track tapes or the alternate mixes were available in a digital format. Since then, however, all the tapes have been digitized, meaning that it's much easier to access the music. Needless to say, in 1993 I would have wanted to hear much more than I was able to hear during the six hours I spent together with Björn, Benny and Michael, so I'm excited to finally get this opportunity to really delve into the archives. Moreover, the scope of the book will also be expanded in many other different ways, but without ever losing focus of ABBA's music. Perhaps even more importantly, the prose will be significantly improved - I'm basically re-writing the book from the ground up. I am going to publish the book myself, so as not to be beholden to a publisher's requirements regarding design, deadlines and so on. I hope to be able to publish towards the end of 2016, but the date may change: making the book as good and as nice-looking as it can possibly be will be my main objective. I've already begun work on the book, but in order to get it finished and printed I will need to finance the project with the aid of a crowdfunding campaign. The projected start date for the campaign is 28 January, 2015. It will then run for a month, ending on 28 February 2015. If you're as excited as I am about this brand new and much-improved edition of ABBA - The Complete Recording Sessions, please support the crowdfunding campaign - if it fails, the book will not be written; simple as that. And please spread the word to anyone you think might be interested in the book, including Facebook groups and other social media - the more people who are made aware of the upcoming campaign, the greater the chance that it will succeed. Between now and the launch of the crowdfunding campaign at the end of January, I will publish regular updates and reveal more information about the book here on my website. It's easy to be notified of the updates by following me on Facebook or on Twitter. www.facebook.com/carlmagnus.palm.3twitter.com/carlmpalm

New Update: Two weeks 'til crowdfunding blast-off... Published January 14, 2015 Today, it's exactly two weeks until the crowdfunding campaign for the revised, updated and expanded edition of ABBA - The Complete Recording Sessions kicks off. All the pieces are beginning to fall into place and I'm really looking forward to pushing the launch button. Here are a few random thoughts at this particular point in time. THE NUMBER OF PAGES IN THE BOOK As I hinted in my previous blog, my initial page count estimate proved to be insufficient. After discussing the matter with my designer and the printer, we're now looking at somewhere between 400 and 500 pages (originally I'd thought we'd land somewhere between 300 and 400). A little more than I had envisioned, then - but this is no time to compromise on the inclusion of interesting information about ABBA's recorded work, is it? THANK YOU Since I first announced the plans to publish an updated edition of ABBA - The Complete Recording Sessions about a month ago, I've had a fantastic reaction from the ABBA fan community. There is so much enthusiasm out there that I'm really overwhelmed. Some have even reached out and offered to help out with information and materials - to say that I'm touched and grateful is a gross understatement. Every author of ambitious factual books knows that there is no way you can do absolutely everything by yourself, you always rely on people helping out through enthusiasm for what you're trying to achieve and with no other reward than the gratitude of the author. I'd like to extend a warm thanks to everyone who has shown their support so far, whether through offering to help or simply showing their support for the project. AND, FINALLY, A REMINDER... More information about the updated version of ABBA - The Complete Recording Sessions can be found here. It's easy to be notified of updates about the book and the upcoming crowdfunding campaign by following me on Facebook or on Twitter. (If you're worried that you're going to be inundated with updates and tweets, fear not - I seldom post things not related to my work, and you will usually only hear from me a few times every week, at the most.) Please keep on spreading the word about the crowdfunding campaign, which starts on 28 January: ABBA - The Complete Recording Sessions will only be published if the campaign succeeds. www.carlmagnuspalm.com/blogs/abba-blog/two-weeks-til-crowdfunding-blast-off

Two days until crowdfunding for ABBA - The Complete Recording Sessions starts. Here are a couple of chapter excerpts for your reading pleasure. Chapter excerpts from ABBA - The Complete Recording Sessions Published January 26, 2015 www.carlmagnuspalm.com/blogs/abba-blog/chapter-excerpts-from-abba-the-complete-recording-sessionsWith two days until the crowdfunding campaign for the revised, updated and expanded edition of ABBA - The Complete Recording Sessions is launched, I thought it was high time that y'all had the chance to read a few excerpts from the book. Excerpts from the 1973 and 1974 chapters are available below. Before you start downloading and reading, please read the following: • I've only written four chapters so far: 1966-1971, 1972, 1973 and 1974. That's why there are no excerpts from ABBA's later years. • The chapters I have written are only finished in the sense that they have a beginning, a middle and an end. The book is evolving organically, so as new information surfaces, and I talk to more people, receive answers to questions - and so on! - the text will change. In fact, there is a good example of that in the 1974 excerpt: when this was written, the BBC Radio One Waterloo jingle hadn't yet surfaced, so that's why it isn't mentioned in my text. • Similarly, the design and layout is in no way finished. My designer, Maria Nicholas, has put together these excerpts in order to show the general direction we're heading in. For instance, the pictures you see here are, in many cases, just preliminary images, and will be replaced by other images as work on the design progresses. • The content in the excerpts is not necessarily chronologically arranged: it has mainly been chosen to show you selected features in the new edition. The crowdfunding campaign for the revised, expanded and updated edition of ABBA - The Complete Recording Sessions kicks off 28 January 2015. Get notified of updates about the book and the upcoming crowdfunding campaign by following me on Facebook or on Twitter. Please keep on spreading the word about the crowdfunding campaign: ABBA - The Complete Recording Sessions will only be published if the campaign succeeds. Your support matters! The crowdfunding campaign for the revised, updated and expanded edition of ABBA - The Complete Recording Session will run between 28 January and 28 February, 2015. Go straight to the Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for this book by clicking here. If the campaign is successful, I will have enough funds to research, write, publish and ship this book to you. In other words: your support matters! ABOUT THE BOOK My first ABBA book, ABBA - The Complete Recording Sessions, published in 1994, will be re-published in a brand new expanded, updated and heavily revised edition. It's something I've long wanted to do; I first started working on it back in 2007, but then got sidetracked by other projects. Now, finally, with the aid of crowdfunding, I believe I have found a way to make this book become a reality. Crucially, the book will only written and published if this crowdfunding campaign is successful. This is how the crowdfunding for the updated version of ABBA - The Complete Recording Sessions works: You pay in advance so that I will be able to research, write, publish and ship the book, and you will then get a copy of the book when it's finished. Everything will be covered by your pledge: the price of the book + shipping to your address. You won't have to do anything else. Crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter (the biggest and most well-established crowdfunding site). Visit and save the site now in preparation for 28th: www.kickstarter.com/?ref=navI feel confident this will be a highly interesting read for the ABBA fan as well as anyone interested in classic pop music. The new book will build on the original edition by adding plenty of previously unknown facts about ABBA's recorded work. However, it will also be expanded to include stories on how the record sleeves were made, and vintage review quotes that will provide a view of how the group's music was received at the time - and more! This brand new edition of ABBA - The Complete Recording Sessions will be completely funded by the crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. The campaign will launch on Wednesday 28 January 2015 at 10.00am CET and end on Saturday 28 February 2015 at 11.59pm CET. I'd like to donate to the 'Book Funding' more than once.
Is it possible to do that? (I mean my donations being spread over several days).
Also, I'd rather not have my name in it, as I like to be 'Anonymous' if possible.
I've never joined in a 'Crown Funding' before & I'm nervous about anything that is new to me.

I am quite sure you can donate more than once but I am not really sure how you go about just donating, and doing so anonymously. It is best to ask those questions on kickstarter - they will be happy to answer any questions relating to the project. As for being nervous, that is understandable. One thing I know to be true however, is that Carl Magnus Palm can be trusted

I have just been reading the FAQ at kickstarter and they state: "We don’t currently have an anonymous pledge feature. But you’re free to choose any account name you like — so if you don’t want to be personally connected to your pledges, just choose a name that’s not identifiable (e.g., CatLuvr02)." www.kickstarter.com/help/faq/backer+questions?ref=faq_nav#BackAProj

If this new version of The Complete Recording Sessions is written and published, I suppose we here in the USA won't be able to get our hands on a copy. To the best of my knowledge, the original version was never published here. I have it, but I got it by mail from the publisher in the UK.

It will be the same here Mike - we always have to source things from overseas. We do occassionally get new releases in stores here, but not always.

I've gone for the UK Reward Level 1 as money is very tight for me but I would like to see this get published. I have the book about The Beatles Recording Sessions and would like to see the one for the group I really like.

With four days left and only 40% of the way to the required target, it's fairly safe to say the kickstarter crowdfunding campaign is not going to succeed. CMP is already looking at switching to an e-book option. Although that will obviously be a much less expensive way to go and therefore attract more willing purchasers, it personally leaves me cold. It's disappointing but I can appreciate that the cost especially to those who would have to pay more for postage must have been a put off. Hopefully CMP will take stock and come back with more options that will make this work attainable to a wider readership.

The renewed crowd-funding campaign is underway and this one with 'Indiegogo' looks well on the way to success. Lessons have obviously been learned from the 'Kickstarter' one and now there are both Hardbook and E-Book options. Link :

Although 77% achieved with 20 days to go looks very promising, I wonder if it may be deceptive. CMP recalibrated his offer based on the level of interest shown in the first campaign. So if most of the initial backers immediately chip in again, the early progress will be impressive. However, the last 10% may be more difficult to achieve than the first 90%.

That's a possibility, shoshin. But the original campaign had over 700 pledgers by the end. About 600 is needed for the target to be reached now. This one has some 460 thus far. There's always an initial rush but the amount raised has been rising pretty steadily since. Think there may be some who are waiting to see if this one is really going to succeed before committing.

From fb: Carl Magnus Palm Hi everyone, Just two weeks to go before the crowdfunding campaign for ABBA - The Complete Recording Sessions ends. Thanks to everyone who has pre-ordered so far. If you haven't pre-ordered yet, now is the time do it. Just click here: igg.me/at/abbatcrsSo far in this campaign I have mentioned several times about the previously unknown information on ABBA’s recordings that I mean to share with you all in the revised and expanded edition of ABBA – The Complete Recording Sessions. But I haven’t actually revealed very much about what that information might be. Well, time to change that! The following list features just some of the fascinating tapes I’ve stumbled across in my role as consultant for Polar Music: • Tiger – an alternate mix, revealing details about the harmony vocals that aren’t noticeable in the familiar mix. • Happy Hawaii – an alternate mix that’s really different from the one we’ve lived with for the past 38 years. It blew my mind when I heard it. • Dancing Queen – an early alternate mix that seems to suggest something very interesting regarding the development of that particular recording (no, I’m not talking about deleted verses). • Fernando – an alternate full-length mix; yes, folks, even Fernando was a “victim” of the razor blade and the sticky tape. • Voulez-Vous – a rough mix of the original backing track recorded in Miami, before further overdubs and adjustments were made in Stockholm. • Dream World – an alternate mix with a few interesting differences. • Our Last Summer – an alternate mix with details from the familiar version missing. Remember, this is just a selection of stuff I’ve heard “by accident” over the years. Can you imagine how much more there is to hear, once I start going through all the recordings systematically? What does ‘Me And I (with laughter)’ sound like, for instance? And what are the secrets we don’t even know are there to be found? If you’re as excited as I am about finding out more about ABBA’s unreleased and unheard recordings, and the stories on how the familiar hits were constructed in the studio, then pre-order your copy of ABBA – The Complete Recording Sessions here: igg.me/at/abbatcrsThanks for your support!

"This person would like to thank everyone who's contributed, spread the word and wished him well over the past few months. Your enthusiasm and generosity of spirit have given him the opportunity to create a vastly improved version of the book he first published 21 years ago (at which time the attached video still was shot). So THANK YOU!" Carl Magnus Palm 102% funded !! This new edition of the book is now going to be a reality !!! But remember, if you want a hard copy of the book, you must pre-order before 8 April - this is a now or never deal - the book will not be available in stores. The e-book will still be available as far as I know though. Order now: He looks so young in the picture from 1994 - hard to believe it has been so long since he first wrote ABBA The Complete Recording Sessions
