Anybody watching this fiendishly difficult tv quiz programme? The new series started off with this question: What is the connection between the following: 1) Quintruple troth 2) Distress signal 3) 1963 Lincoln Memorial speech 4) 1815 Belgian Battle I think it's the first one I've ever got right

Yes - by clue 3 I was thinking, "it CAN'T be ABBA - this is Only Connect - it must be something to do with inverting the chemical formulae of DNA/RNA strands or something like that..." But no - as clue 4 revealed, it WAS ABBA! Obviously 'dumbing down' for BBC2.
Actually, I entered a team for this series - we called ourselves 'Rarely Correct' - but we didn't get past the audition-in-London stage in February. We messed up the connecting wall and I was a bit loud overall, which probably sealed our fate, to be fair. But I comfort myself with knowing that we clearly didn't comply with their strict 'no normal people' policy. Still in the running for 'Eggheads' later in the year, though... Bring on the music round...

I wasn't sure till clue 4, but then entered smug mode when they couldn't work out 'quintruple troth'. My wife was less impressed when, explaining my genius to her, I referred to Martin Luther King's famous 'Thank You For The Music' speech

I preferred his (largely now forgotten) 'Dum Dum Diddle' oration.
