When ABBA performed (well, lip-synched) SOS on American Bandstand in 1975, host Dick Clark found it difficult to believe that Benny did not have a background in classical music. Frida assured him that he didn't, but Clark asked how long she had known him; might he have been conservatory trained before they met?
The strains of Bach in SOS have often been noted of course. But more generally, how does ABBA's music measure up to that of the great classical composers? Very well, according to this interesting article, which compares their work with Mozart:

But in this thread, I would like to share what I think is a more striking way of illustrating the complexity and depth of Benny and Björn's compositions, showing that they are indeed worthy of comparison with their classical predecessors. A talented church organist has uploaded (to date) 16 ABBA songs, paying admirable attention to harmonies as well as melody. My own favourite of these renditions is One Of Us, but please give all of them a listen, from Arrival to Voulez Vous via Dancing Queen. Younger ABBAchatters will no doubt hear wedding music potential, though I'm afraid it starts me thinking about funeral arrangements
Why not post your own favourite pick of these church organ classics, together with a few words of description or praise? Or is there another video out there that similarly captures the classical potential of ABBA's music?

Dick Clark incredulous that Benny was not classically trained:
