These are fantastic photos - loving them ! The costumes and choreography were well established by the time we saw them on TV here in Australia in 1975. Glorious times

The abbaontv page has changed twice in the past few days. One of the reasons that I doubted it was filmed on 25/11 is because of the tour schedule in Germany/Austria. ABBA was not listed in the TV Times as appearing on 25/12. Abbaontv says 'the TV times listings don't mention who was in the missing editions' but this isn't correct for 25/12; the acts are listed but ABBA isn't among them (see missingepisodes.proboards.com/thread/8942/45-aka-rock-on#page=7). Bay City Rollers were apparently also on the 12/12 episode, but the ABBA pics show them performing in front of Queen's kit and Queen were on the TV Times list for 25/12 (though looking at fan-site discussions their appearance also seems to be a mystery because nobody can remember it, unlike their TOTP performance around the same time). I'm just wondering if perhaps ABBA was filmed for the 25/12 show but (maybe because So Long had bombed really badly by then?) the number wasn't broadcast on that date (if ever). This would explain both the photo evidence and the TV Times absence. Apparently Rock On 45 did sometimes hold over an act to a different show, so we can't completely rely on photo evidence when working out broadcast dates. Some of the Rock On 45 shows survive but many are missing, so it's worth trying to get to the bottom of this in case footage can be discovered, in the same way that the TOTP appearance was eventually found

That is very interesting Martin - it would be great if we can get to the bottom of this. I fear though that if Sara (ABBA On TV) has had no success finding out information, then it's going to be a very tough road. It would be amazing to see the footage of the performance - we've been told before that archive material has been lost forever, only to have it turn up somewhere. Often times, people who worked at the studios at the time would keep copies of material for there own personal collections - before the tapes or whatever were destroyed or copied over. And sometimes those people choose to 'share' at some point. Maybe we'll get lucky one day - just like to clip of So Long from TOTP - and if someone pops up with the clip, they'll certainly also have the information on when it was recorded and if it was broadcast. I think you are probably right that it was not aired due to the song not doing well. But I bet the clip still exists - somewhere - hopefully

I see that Russ Ballard performed on the 25/12 Rock On 45 too. Small world, 'cos he wrote both I Know There's Something Going On for Frida and Can't Shake Loose for Agnetha. Maybe they first crossed paths during this recording?
Russ also composed Agnetha's I Wish Tonight Could Last Forever. As well as the up tempo hits, he could also write romantic ballards

I think Queen were either in the middle of or about to start a tour so it's safe to say they performed 'Killer Queen' on the same day. One thing's for sure that the Bay City Rollers were certainly on the same bill as ABBA. As you can see here they are dressed as choir boys so that would sort of suggest it was aired at Christmas. You can just about see ABBA faintly to the right. Edit : Just seen this image has been already posted above.

Yes, the Queen drum kit and BCR pic does establish pretty convincingly that ABBA was filmed for the 25/12 episode. The puzzle is that by the time it was broadcast, ABBA was not listed in the TV Times as being on the show.

This isn't about Abba but it's a comment about The Bay City Rollers. My parents owned a newsagents in London back in the mid - late 70's and someone had put a message up on one of the signs outside the shop which advertised one of the papers and it read Bay stuffty Rollers. I can remember that one thing from almost 40 years ago.
