Just in case you don't know, if you have messages archived, and the same messages are also in your outbox, if you delete them from your outbox, they will automatically be deleted from your archive, as I have just learned the hard way. I assume the same is true if the messages are in your inbox instead of your outbox, or if they are in both your inbox and outbox, or if they are in all three places.
