EDIT: Thread abandoned by poster. Just found out there was already a thread similar to this
So there wasn't a thread about an analogy between other songs and ABBA's songs, so I decided to create this. There was already a thread about the similarity of ABBA's lyrics and others' lyrics, but we should not confuse melody with the lyrics. Together, they make a composition and a song.:-)
You've heard about a comparison between Dancing Queen and Sing My Way Home (Delaney & Bonnie), have you? There's more songs that leads me to this kind of thoughts..
When I was listening to ABBA's "The Visitors" (eponymous song), it sounds like Yes's "Yours Is No Disgrace's" synthesizer solo after the 'Cracking Up' chorus.
(The Visitors hook starts at 2:37 – Yours Is No Disgrace hook starts at 0:40.)
Another thing that came up to my mind is that while I was listening to ABBA's "So Long", the intro evoked me of Little Richard's "Lucille" and the ending had a bit of Henry Mancini's Peter Gunn. This analogy is not as close as the first analogy stated (even so blatant), but is this a coincidence?
(So Long: 2:45) (Lucille: 0:13) (Peter Gunn: 0:13)
A lot of you may disagree with this, but I've also thought of an analogy (just for fun) are between ABBA's "Ring Ring" and Caravan's "If I Could Do It All Over Again, I'd Do It All Over You". It's in the key of A and it sounds rather similar in an uncanny way.
(Ring Ring)
(If I Could Do It All Over Again, I'd Do It All Over You [They're in different time signature, but they're at least in the same key]: 0:02)
