The UK Singles Chart began on W/E 15th November 1952.
In 1953 Frankie Laine had 4 Top 10 Hits for 3 Weeks in a row.
Until now no-one has equalled or beaten that.
In the latest UK 'Singles' Chart, Ed Sheeran had 16 Songs in the Top 20!
This includes the entire Top 6 & 9 of the Top 10! (No-one has held even the entire Top 4 before. The Top 3 was not held - by the same Act - until W/E 14th January 2016, when Justin Bieber did it. But Ed has doubled that).
In the Irish Charts, his 'takeover' is even greater. He has the entire Top 16 'Singles' there! As well as the No.1, No.2 & No.5 Albums.....
This is because The Official Charts Company now allows 'Streaming' to affect the 'Singles' Chart, & if an Act can get Millions of 'Streams' for an Album, they can get every Track on it into the Singles Chart! Which is exactly what Ed has done.
The OCC will now have to decide what to do to stop it ever happening again, as most people don't like Ed Sheeran, so if he dominates the 'Singles' Chart, they will lose all interest in that Chart - forever.
If they don't do something, (to stop Album Tracks getting into the 'Singles' Chart), the problem will only keep happening. Most likely when Justin Bieber, Adele and Taylor Swift release their next Albums.

What I don't understand about this is that, surely, the figures for those streaming the entire album should count towards the album chart, not the songs/singles chart? The track from this album with the least number of streams should be the benchmark, and those figures should be deducted from all tracks and count towards the album chart. The remainder should count towards the songs/singles chart? Or is that what they've done?

Colin, I have an off-topic question for you, but it's not worth starting a new thread, and it is related to chart compilation.
I noticed that the La La Land soundtrack is in the UK album chart. Indeed, it was recently number one, I think. I thought that multi-artist albums weren't allowed in the main album chart. Has that rule been changed? Or am I missing something?

Gary - The 'La La Land' Album is allowed into the UK 'Artist' Album Chart because it is a Studio Cast Album.
The same for the 'Trolls' Studio Cast Album.
Just as the 'Mamma Mia!' Studio Cast Album was allowed into that Chart, where it reached No.12, (2008), & has sold over 410,000 UK copies - so far. (The 'Mamma Mia!' Film Soundtrack was only allowed into the Compilation Chart. It was No.1 for 11 Weeks & has sold over 1,480,000 UK copies - so far).
The OCC are not always fair. They allowed 'Evita' into the Artist Chart - even though it is a Film Soundtrack. They credit it to Madonna & Various Artists. So, they allow Madonna to have it as one of her 12 UK No.1 Albums - even though she did not sing everything on it. But, they would not allow 'The Bodyguard' Film Soundtrack into the 'Artist' Chart in 1992/1993, because they refused to let Whitney Houston be credited with it. Even though Whitney is on the cover, & even though Whitney sang on most of the Tracks. So, they treated Whitney & Madonna differently, & let Madonna have 'Evita' as a No.1, but Whitney was not allowed to have 'The Bodyguard' as a No.1. (It was only allowed into the Compilation Chart, where it was No.1 for 11 Weeks - the same, (11 Weeks), as the 'Mamma Mia!' Film Soundtrack).
Just as the Bee Gees were not allowed to have 'Saturday Night Fever' as a No.1 Album, in the UK, because they did not sing everything on it. It was allowed into the Artist Chart, as Film Soundtracks were allowed into it in those days. In the USA. 'Saturday Night Fever' is allowed to be a Bee Gees No.1 Album & 'The Bodyguard' is allowed to be a Whitney Houston No.1 Album.

Thanks Colin, that's interesting.
I am sure the Madonna/Whitney situation has been pointed out to the OCC. I wonder how they justified their decision, if at all.
Personally, for what it's worth, I wouldn't consider Evita to be a Madonna album, nor The Bodyguard a Whitney Houston album, nor Saturday Night Fever a Bee Gees album.
By coincidence, I was just playing Evita this morning. Madonna does a very good job on it, but she's not in the Julie Covington/Elaine Paige league.
